lotus twin cam used is a 1560cc or to be precise a 1558cc

and it was based on a ford block

im a classic ford fan

The amount of mk1, mk2 and mk 3 cortinas my old man ran into the ground and then scrapped makes me cry. He used to buy one for a couple hundred quid run it until it failed the test and needed more than a repair you could carry out on the driveway, scrap it and buy another. Can you imagine if he had just put them in a barn instead of scrapping them they would be worth 10's of thousands.

On more than one occasion him and my older brother used a block and tackle to replace engine they brought from the scrap yard. Can you imagine any of that with a modern car these days.

When I passed my test I had use of his vauxall viva and then a few months later he bought a vauxall magnum and I thought it went a like a rocket!

Loved the ford crossflows in whatever guise a quality engine  what engine did the lotus one have do no Jasper

No idea Cookie . I remember the lotus Cortina which I think was 1600 twincam :hmm:.

cracking days when you could walk outside with a pair of feeler gauges and a strobe and screwdriver and set cars up ourselves, remember spending hours gaping the points and plugs and tweaking around with the mixture, and strobeing the timing, as a lad I couldn't wait to get under the bonnet for a play , these days its all tamperproof which is a shame :cray: . don't think kids these days will have half the fun we had when we was lads.....

a local lad had a MK1 RS2000 with twin 40's, cherry bomb exhaust and a few other mods, we used to here this thing burbling away at the traffic light at the top of my mothers road, everytime I saw it I drooled .....

You're making me wish I was a lad again chid , one of the joys with these old fords if you had the know how was the way you could chop and change engines and running gear .

I still love to see them in all their glory expecially when somthing special is under the bonnet..........

Loved the days of not enough cash to fill up the tank so was always on vapour and a can in back run out on the M25 in contriflow and was towed for free bargin instead of pushing love the days of tinkering and making good on shoestring.

Can guys remember the days prior to tyres having tread as MOt pass with wire poking out unbelivable we made it though alive

I love all the old school fords we did some mad things years ago back when any ol mush could pick up a spanner and lift the bonnet up....chucking big v6,s into mk 1 escorts......now i lift up a bonnet and wouldnt have a clue !

Seen some of them old mk 1 rs go for 40k plus i had a few of the nosecone jobbies left one to rot in a garage for years ended up selling it for a grand only to see it on the road a year later looking immaculate.

The fella that ownes my local village shop has a mk1 mexico sat on his drive rusting away. Refuses to sell it because it was his sons car, his son was killed in the hurricane back in the late 80s so i suppose it has some sentimental value. Total waste in my opinion, but has probably gone past the point of restoration now anyway.
