Whizzie 38
Got my NV unit today, had a quick play with it in the garden & fields behind the house. Does what it says on the tin. Image is clear and very usable at longer Airgun ranges. (I would like a nitesite unit, but coffers wont stretch to that at the mo...) So after I read an interesting feed about a york based hunter, who uses a NV monocular to locate his quarry & then flash the lamp for the shot, i thought i'd give it ago... Recently when lamping, i've found the LED Lenser P7 clears a field of rabbits, before they are in range. Even with a Red filter lense fitted. Does anyone have any experience of hunting like this? Any tips? Will let you know how i get on. Whizzie Edited September 14, 2012 by Whizzie Quote Link to post
lapin2008 1,587
I bought the exact same one, found the image very good close range but was having difficulties further a field I was hoping it would have gone a little further but i also suspect i have some getting used to it to do 1 Quote Link to post
Buster321c 1,010
Ive got a tip for ya . When your lamping , people think because the red filter is on teh rabbits dont see it and have it really bright . The way to go is have the lamp low as you can so you can just see the eye shine . Whizzie 38
Thanks guys. My original lamp was a deben tracer, (you know the one....with a battery pack that weighed in like a car!) The Lenser P7 is a superb scope mounted flash light, it puts out 200 lumens & is easily as good as other more expensive tactical lights (at a fraction of the cost, but without being rechargeable, (unless you use high quality rechargeable AAA batteries)): http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00499RL50/?tag=hydra0b-21&hvadid=9551160549&ref=asc_df_B00499RL50 The lamp has x2 fittings, on its normal torch set up, the unit has a high / low setting, activated by pressing the button once for full power & twice for lower power. The only draw back with the tactical switch, is you only get the max power. On one of my permissions, the rabbits dont flinch when the lamps come out, but on the others, they're very lamp shy. I've used a red marker pen to add more dense colouring to the filter to good effect, but i'm looking forward to seeing how the NV unit comes up. Quote Link to post
RAPID7LIAM 7
i made a scope adapter to attach my bresser to my airrifle scope and had a few rabbits with it up the allotment at ranges up to 40 yrds, if i remember right though i had to keep adjusting the focus but was still usable, i just bought a piece of ir filter and cut it to the shape of my deben and used that as my infra red, Liam.. 1 Quote Link to post
RAPID7LIAM 7
i had to buy a 1x lens for the end though as the 5x mag isto much behind the scope. the yukon 1 x 24 fits fine. 1 Quote Link to post

What sort of range were you getting. I dont mean for a clear picture but more for spotting eye shine in the UV? Quote Link to post
RAPID7LIAM 7
getting eye shine out to 70/80 yrds but al depends on the extra ir you use, it's best setting the focus to whatever range your going to be shooting and try and leave it or you will be forever messing about with it, side paralax is best as you can fine tune it using that rather than adjusting the bresser all the time. they do take some getting used to tho as it's in black and white rather than the usual green. woodcote1 88
That's exactly how i hunt at night. Got the monocular slung round my neck. P7 is a great little lamp. 1 Quote Link to post
RAPID7LIAM 7
no mate, the ir on the bresser not up to much, might be ok for a bit ratting upto 20 ft but no good for rabbits. Quote Link to post
Whizzie 38
Thanks lads. I found the first night out interesting & the NV unit is pretty good. The first session was deliberately short, due to other commitments. Altogether it was all a bit of a faff, the NV definately needs to be slung round my neck, as carrying the rifle, shooting sticks & the NV, i needed more hands than I had! I did find the NV very good @ 40 yds, but with the IR turned up, it was good for twice that for eye shine, but you've got to turn it down when closer in or you're looking at white out. I used the batteries supplied with the unit & they went flat after about 90 mins, so looking forward to going out with new ones to see what the real battery life is like..... Quote Link to post
Whizzie 38
Popped out last night for a few hours with the NV slung round my neck; a much more civilised way to go about things & 4 healthy bunnys for the bag! Best nights shooting for a while. I sat in a particular hot spot for half an hour & didnt even put the NV o, when i did I was surrounded by rabbits! & didnt get a one, as soon as the lamp flashed, they were on there heels & gone. ....I'm now grabbing all the overtime i can get for the Nitesite i ve been dreaming of! Kent_keith 46
Hi whizzie, I bought a Bresser NV last night, going to try it out this Saturday if it comes in time, I fancy walking around my permission locating rabbits with it then using my NS50 to bag a few, I'll let you know how I get on.
