beacause he wants to , and it has sentimental attachment to him ,, f**k me you came in like a bull in a china shop there and missed the point buy about 4 miles !!! he asked me about mirror finnish i

well this was my grandfathers bill hook quite old and is having a make over, these are piks of before i started and of some pieces of wood im going to use for the handle think the elm is the one for me

good luck with it ! go steady with the grinder its easy to remove to much or just plunge in and make it uneaven . slow is smooth smooth is fast ha ha . im looking forward to seeing the finnished pro

lol not gonna change it to much gonna put a nice shine down the blade but not gonna go to far with the rest of the blade.

took an 80 flap paddle to it the other day with reasonable results but when i stuck it on the linisher it dulled it off again.

whats best plan of action from here?

blade edge i thought i will do last but what about rest of the blade mass to get best effect im not gonna get a mirror to it as its quite pitted and as the paddle spins thought im best off linishing then would you still go through the grits and would you do the handle before or after.

handle is gonna be the elm with a brass ferule and a thread will be put on the end of the tang with a nut hidden inside the handle and a brass blank knocked in the end over the nut so should be solid but removable if i ever want to change it  .

been reading some good books ive picked up on forging think a knife makeing 1 is next but not cheap picked up a good workshop manual on hardening and tempering aswell
