Just a couple of questions for anyone to put me in the picture.

1. Why do Bullcrosses have a separate champion class?

2. If someone puts a dog or bitch in a bullcross class can they still enter the open championship?

cheers Jeffers

Bullcrosses are mainly bred for a specific role in hunting, so they should usually be judged on their suitability to perform that role.

Basically their bred for speed and power rather than speed and stamina/agility.

In shape, many don't look like other crosses, being larger and more muscular to handle their specialised quarry. It's hard to compare them to a 'standard shape' Lurcher.

Some 3/8th crosses and a lot of the 1/4 bred Bulls are more like the 'standard' running dog shape, so can be entered into normal classes if you want.

Shows are for fun, you can enter your dog/bitch in almost any class for their sex, doesn't mean they'll be picked out but you won't know unless you pay your pound!

I dont have a problem with bull cross championship/classes, but the mistake some lurcher shows have, is that they include the winner in the line up for champion lurcher. Thats fine unless, and this happened at a local hunt show some time ago, the winner of the smooth dog over 23 was a bull cross, the winner of the smooth bitch over 23 was a bull cross. They met in the bull cross class where the dog beat the bitch. They were both in the line up for champion lurcher as they had both won the smooth over classes, where the bitch could not win because she had been beaten by the dog.

My point is, either show them in the bull class or the lurcher show if the bull class is included for champion lurcher, not both.

Because the dogs and their owners are best kept away from normal society.

By normal society would you be meaning Toffs that potter about with their 'pretty' show Saluki crosses, I've noticed they get a bit upset when they see proper lurchers.....

Thats more up to the owner to pull out of the next classes than the organisers to refuse them entry, sounds like the judge knew what a decent dog looked like though!!! lol
