tegater 789
Got asked by the owner of my best permission to come and thin out the numbers of rabbits, as he is just over run with them. I suggested the rifle, but he said bring ferrets as well. On arrival there were about 50 bunnies sitting out on the bank, and a mixture of old and young. Out came the hmr, and 4 were down in a few seconds, all adults. They never get shot usually only ferreted, so they weren't gun shy.2 more down over the next couple of minutes that actually came out of holes to have a look! All the bunnies apart from part growns had now disappeared so out came the nets. First set netted up and apart from one adult buck, it was nothing but youngsters slipping through the meshes. A right pain in the butt. The lads enjoyed it trying to catch the little ones! Over the next couple of sets we added 2 more adults, but it was impossible trying to keep the nets on. There was obviously a lot of murder going on underground, with the amount of squeeling that could be heard. Enough was enough, we sat and had a brew, the out came the rifle again. We ended up with a total of 14 adults, most to the hmr, and thankfully, when dressed out only one was a milky doe, and one other had young inside her. All the rest were either barren or bucks. One thing I did agree on with the landowner, is that the ferrets would stay firmly at home, and it will be the rifle or air rifle next time. Until September anyway. Another one of those times were you need to keep the farmer happy, or somebody else gets called in. Quote Link to post
