i didnt really want to get involved in this rubbish but the lot of you want to take a step back and think ,i spent a whole lot of my time on sunday trying pretty hard to get lurchers involved on the

YES. Otherwise Dogs run in the relevant lurcher races.

the racing was crap.

Where can the pics be found albert

Just finishing off site clear up and some urgent work for Shanes. Photos will be posted on hear, Facebook, K9 and the fair website by the end of the week.

Albert, there is no way you can tell if a dog is a "pure" Whippet, simply by looking at it !! It's impossible, no matter how good a judge of dogs you are ! I could bring an 18 lb bitch from my local track along to one of your shows, and most people would swear it was a Whippet... yet it is half Greyhound!!! If you are to continue haveing Pedigree or "pure" Whippet racing, then you have to bite the bullet and insist on seeing the registration papers...no papers-no race, unless they go in the "under 23" Lurcher race !

As for the "Lurcher" racing, this was ruined a long tme ago, when people started breeding 3/4, 7/8 and 15/16th Greyhound crosses specificaly for "Lurcher " racing... now they don't even bother with the tiny bit that is'nt Greyhound, and just run No-Ped Whippets and unregistered Greyhounds !! I agree with Mally, if these people want out and out racers instead of workers, then do it properly and race at organised race tracks, then the true Lurchers may have a chance of winning a race !

Cheers.

Had a great day at the show on sunday,my old black dog won the veteran class, and i lend my lakeland dog to a young lad to enter in the pairs and he got 3rd ,i didn't stick around for the racing, because the baby wasn't well and had to head back to Dublin,But i will say thanks to Albert and the two Matts for putting on a good show,.

And well done Lurcher Dave you got me this time LOL

And well done Steven Dessie and Graham for the lurcher , terrier and whippet champions fine dogs, and well done to the judges done a great job :toast:

I`m afraid your talking out of your `backside` winner69 !

You shouldn`t really comment on matters you know nothing about ! Talk is cheap and your out of your league !

Just because I have Ernie at stud doesn`t mean I breed Non-peds, lurchers or what ever your ignorance of his breeding thinks he is !

When I breed Ernie to Winnie at the end of the year, you can read about it on here !

I`m afraid all the bickering and arguments about dogs can only damage the sport, if that`s what you want to call it !

The only proper race meets take place in Roscrea and Enniscorthy, the rest i`m afraid are just a free for all ! It`s a shame as there are plenty of good people out there that organise events for our benefit. Those that give out usually don`t contribute anything worthwhile, but are the first to get on the key board !

i didnt really want to get involved in this rubbish but the lot of you want to take a step back and think ,i spent a whole lot of my time on sunday trying pretty hard to get lurchers involved on the planned working dog club and after all this i really wonder why i bothered.yes there may very well be a few people with dogs that have a question on their breeding around the shows racing but that is no reason at all to slate a whole event. that after all is put on for yous all. all the shouting about some lads greyhounds on here after the fact again instead of asking him upfront on sunday. everyone that runs a show at the minute and i even mean the small ones is wondering why they bother at all with all this goin on. at the end of it all you can only take what the person tells you as theres no way to proof breeding unless you have both the parents of the dog for dna testing, simply sending one sample doesnt prove anything. stop slating behind keyboards and speak to the people face to face as the only thing yous are doing is giving ammo to our hunting enemies and we already have plenty of them..

I was at the fair,i also keep whippets and i go to the whippet shows at Dunsilly and im sure my dogs have raced against some of the questionable dogs in this debate and have been beaten by them. But winning a rosette or trophy is not the end all or be all of a working whippet for me.Hunting ability and doing the business in the field is what counts,my dogs are far from the best in the world but they are a hunting assett to me and i enjoy working them.I can understand other whippet owners getting frustrated by the so called cheats at the fairs but lets face it lads your dog should be for hunting and the fairs a bit of fun with the family if you have one.I find it funny the cheaters go to such lengths for a trophy and in the process make enemies of so many true doggy men,its sad really. And to blame the organizers of Ballywalter is quite easy, but as stated i have seen questionable whippets race against my own dogs at Dunsilly and there are far more accomplished whippet people who specialize in the breed present and its allowed. My missus and she knows fook all about about whippets asked me why our dogs didnt have a lovely feathered fluffy tails like the one standing beside us at Dunsilly the other week! :hmm:Take it on the chin lads cheaters are in every walk of life why should our sport be any different. My dogs put rabbits in the freezer for ferret food rosettes are for a drawer in the kitchen some where :toast: Any way me the missus and the kids enjoyed the whole day and it was a credit to the guys running it ,its a thankless task judgeing anything and judges are always non-winnersno matter what

Know were your misses is coming from a tail like the the Quinns dog how does it do ih the showing with a tail like Kangaroo watch it on the start line at the next show it is in the blue jacket

Fiona,

I didn't choose the line judges - when I was there there were two.

For the Master Mc Grath at Shanes last year we had three line judges including the Chairman of the Hunting Association of NI plus an accurate photo finish.

AND at shanes all decisions were agreed except for one where the vote was 2:1. That shows how tight things are approaching the line. The photo you refer to does not appear to be

on the line so I am afraid the line judges decision stands. I don't know which judge called it but I have known one of the judges for several years and I personally would not doubt his integrity.

TALLY HO CHRISTMAS DOG SHOW AND RACEDAY SATURDAY 9th DECEMBER 23

At this time every year we all look forward to our Christmas Dog shows and this year was no different. Saturday morning the 9th December 23 had finally arrived and it was time to load up and head for Ballymena to the Tally Ho Christmas Dog Show and Race Day.
As we drove along the motorway, the winds and rain swept us along, and it became  evident  it was time to get the water proofs on. We were living in hope the rain and wind would subside as the day went on, but unfortunately this was not to happen.
But as the old saying goes the show must go on and that it did. In the face of adversity, howling winds and rain, show organiser Peter Morgan being the man he is and a credit to the Country Sports fraternity, battened up the hatches, hammered down the show rings, got the racing under way, and very soon the 2023 Tally Ho Christmas Dog Show had rolled on.
Tally Ho Working Dog Christmas show and Race day is widely acclaimed as being one of the top shows of the year, and again this year it certainly lived up to its name.  Although the weather was inclement and the worst I have seen in the 25 years I have been at dog shows up and down the country. But on the day, this show was not lacking in Christmas cheer.
Hunting men and women and their wee people left the field and their homes behind them to spend a day out at this great annual Christmas Sporting occasion.
This Christmas Dog Show is always a very welcome break from the busy schedules of Christmas shopping, but can also be a very sad and lonesome time, full of memories of yesteryear. This annual doggie day out lifts this mantle, brings cheer in abundance, and helps us to leave our cares behind if only for a day and that brings rewards in itself.
As usual Santa and his Elf stopped off at the Tally Ho Show to pay a visit on his way to the North Pole with lots of goodies for the children. This is always the highlight of the Christmas show. It was heart warming to hear the children singing Jingle Bells, and the happy smiles on those we faces.
Very soon it was Raffle time. The raffle always generates a lot of   excitement. Some great and valuable Christmas prizes, including a Turkey.
Time flies bye so quickly show time had arrived.

Judging is not an easy job, but you were consistent and fair, and very successful with the end product.
A big thank you to Matt Lee/Joanna Relf Lee /Matthew Lee for being so professional with the racing on the day. Your experience and input was invaluable, and of this the Tally Ho team are extremely grateful. Well done by all.
Finally, Finally, despite the bad weather, the craic and the banter around the rings was mighty and a brilliant atmosphere full of Christmas cheer.
None of this would have been possible without the main man at the helm, and brilliant organiser Peter Morgan and helpers Conor Creagh/another young man/ and Caitlin Hughes.
Peter put this show together all by himself and worked tirelessly and gave up his time to make this day so successful and enjoyable for everyone despite the bad weather.
Peter your show was a credit to you and you made everybody so welcome. As usual you have went over and above the call of duty with your Trophies, Rosettes and Prizes. I have heard nothing but praise of your show from everybody that came my way.
I am sure there were many sleepless nights, but again all credit goes to you Peter Morgan. Peter you carried on regardless like a true huntsman despite the terrible weather situation and carried out a very successful Dog Show and Race Day.
Stay safe Peter and may your giving hand never want. And TO all my Sporting friends, God Bless you all, and have a lovely Christmas with your families and I look forward to meeting up with you all again in 2024.
      Margaret Mc Stay
