my hob ferret seems to have somehow caught a cold,well i hope its just that ,nose running,sneezeing,but he's not of his food ,just a bit lathargic,any sort of cures or help on the situation would be helpfull,thanks.

Keep him warm and dry, not a lot you can do really, just let it take its course, unless it gets worse, then a visit to a good ferret knowlegable vet should be seeked.

Its apparently bollocks that they can pass colds on to humans & the other way round, it could also be an allergy to somethink, but either way i would keep an eye on the ferret & pop it to the vets if it gets worse

thanks for the replies,the allergy one is intresting,ive just changed the shavings i had ,to some type of sawdust,i wonderd if it could be that ?

Wood shavings, is allways better then fine swadust.

As sawdust, gets into their nose ect and can cause some problems.

 

Just my experince on it.

sawdust is one of the biggest causes of respritory problems in small animals mate,get him onto some shavings or paper fibre

they can catch human colds, me & my old jill spent a whole month alternately snotty, i gave her the cold, i got better, she gave it back to me, she got better

just keep em warm, plenty of soft grub (you know what it's like trying to eat with a blocked up nose!).

steer clear of sawdust as bedding, 2 of mine are allergic to it, one got absolutely covered in scabs when my dad cleaned him out & bedded them on it, scratched himself raw, poor little bugger.

new shavings been in for a couple of weeks now instead of the sawdust and the hob seems fine.
