Not asking anyone for abuse about this lad just your opinion True story on mon morn had to take the dog to the vets .Waiting room full in walks a man in working gear and tells the lass on the counter that he has hit a pheasant with his car and he has it in the boot could the vet look at it as it's in a bad way behind him is a big hairy farmer who just shakes his head and as he court my eye he grinned and rolled his eyes well i had to look away .My turn for the dog to see the nurse.when i come out i put the dog in the truck before i settle my bill .outside in the carpark this lad is leaning on his car and another lad is inside, on the roof is an extension ladder it looked like they where on there way to a job but are stuck here he then came inside as i was at the counter and he asked if a nurse or someone could get the bird out of the boot as he did not whant to handle i nearly offerd the services of my dog to retrieve it but i kept my mouth shut .I got the impresion that the vet staff where stalling and hoping the bird would snuff it before they got to it as i think if they had to treat it the lad would have to pay .anyway i left the vets thinking daft soft sod then since then i thought well should he be respected for his concern.my own final thoughts are that live and let live if thats what his consience told him to do then ok by me .cos you see on the news time and time again that some driver has done off from an accident after knocking somebody down even kids so i would rather have people with some sort of moral fibre even though i think some of the things they do are daft.

I personally think it is daft, but I am a hypocrite. I hit a hen pheasant going very slow (about 25mph) and stopped to pick it up. It was as limp as a boned fish but I touched its eye and it blinked! So I took it home and checked it for broken wings etc before letting it recover in a chicken run. Then I popped it in the shed in a falconry carry-box with the door open.

After a few hours I checked on it and the silly bugger had laid an egg! So I left it be and a few mins later saw it run down the garden path. The funny thing is that it hung about the garden after that, got joined by a cock pheasant and raised a brood of about a dozen chicks.

I admit I got quite attached to it and liked seeing its progress, so no I don't think it is wrong to care for any animal. But taking a wounded wild animal to a vet when it cannot survive is more cruel than necking it imo. I can't understand these wildlife centres full of wild animal destined to die in a cage, why is that not cruel?

I think he was spot on in having a go at saving it..i would not have personaly but we are all different..i was parked out side of a vet's year's ago waiting for my mother and this young lass carried a feral pigeon into the vet's..the lass come back out pretty quick and walked off.. 10 min's late the side door opened and this pigeon come flying out and landed on the road infront of me..i give it 2min's and got out the car and walked over to the pigeon..it was fooked with no meat on it's keel so i done what the vet should of done and give it to my ferret's when i got home.. :D

Nah - don't think it's soft. He obviously doesn't think the same as the folk on here. The big hairy farmer is just that - big hairy and probably ignorant of the fact that folk might not all be geared up to driving on or wringing the birds neck and not giving it a second thought!!!!

Fair play to the lad concerned.

Facts are the boy wasn't going to pay for it so the vet should have said they'll take care of it and walloped it over the back of the head. Then taken it home and had a nice bit of dinner. Its nice of the guy to actually show a bit of concern for the bird for a change though instead of trying to run them over....

what shouldn't the vet have fixed it and asked the bloke to take it back to were he found it. its someones bird they might go bust with out it. plus he has stole it.

I worked at various vets back home for over 10 years.

People brought in all sorts out of concern .... stray cats and dog, pigeons, mice, a rat or two etc

Someone brought in a seagull once that'd been hit by a car. It's wing was broken. The vet I worked for at the time was a bit of a MacGyver and would have a go at fixing just about anything. He tried, it didn't work, and he got me to pts the bird so's not to let it suffer.

It's good that people are concerned. It's when they go over the top and prolong suffering just to 'save the poor animal' that I get my nose out of joint.

Saturday 27th an armed man attempted entry to a synagogue outside of San Diego, California. According to eyewitnesses he was armed with an "AR style assault rifle" and 3 people have been injured and one has been confirmed dead.
AR15's are illegal in California. The shooter was engaged by the synagogue's armed security which in this case was an off duty border patrol agent. The shooter fled the scene and gave himself up to LE.
The narrative of this story began as one of gun control but has quickly shifted to that of a hate crime now that more details have come to light. The article is from CNN but pretty factual with what's known at this time. The shooter has broken numerous laws and the bad guy with the gun was stopped by a good guy with a gun.

It's official. American socialist icon Bernie Sanders has officially declared that he's running for commander in chief in 2020. He's raised around $5.9 million from more than 220,000 donors in the first 24 hours, which has trumped even the Donald at this point. Many of those donors are set up for recurring donations that are set to net $600,000 a month.
Last time around there were allegations of hamstringing as despite Bernie's popularity with the American electorate as he conceded to Hillary Clinton despiting winning many of the primaries by a large margin. Looking at Hillary's disasterous performance in 2016 it'll be interesting to see whether Sanders remains an independent candidate or goes full Democrat as the group whittles itself down to a frontrunner.
