jackg 7
I caught 26 magpies in a larsen trap over the summer, there are still upto six kicking around. I have set the larsen using cat food as bait on top of the trap and in the compartments, have moved the trap around as well, but nothing. Sheep in a field are the attraction or the dung is. Using the same method as the summer, I guess they could be crafty and too smart, but they are still subject to their own stupidity, as we all are. Any tips please. cornishtrapper 3
try using a larson mate found they work a treat or keep baiting on and around the larson trap, i dont bother trapping magpies in the winter id rather wait until the spring Quote Link to post
paulus 26
works in the spring because they become very protective of their area when breeding Quote Link to post
JohnGalway 1,043
Yeah those Larsen mates look like they'd work, nice big opening so as not to threaten the bird so much. Quote Link to post
patdahat 41
i have found this time of year to be very difficult to catch them also but i am catching them away slowly about 2/3 a week, what i have done is set 2 larsons about 30 yards apart. The 2 birds chattering to 1 another draws attention and between the 2 trap's he's sure to fall victon to 1 of the traps. Quote Link to post
