is the handle of the first stick the root. i make a feel walking sticks myself but have yet to come across a root i would be able to use as a handle.

The first stick was a branch that was cut from a tree.

Do you leave the bark on the sticks just sand them a bit and varnish them?

yes i leave the bark on and give the shank a light sanding and then varnish them.

what type of stick do you use? iv just been down woods for some but dont know if they the right type?

The sticks that i use are hazel which can be found in most headges.
