lurcherterrierferret 2 Posted September 5, 2011 Report Share Posted September 5, 2011 Hi my whippet x bedlington has got really fine hair he's mainly whippet so has short hair, but he has a bald belly area and between his back legs and his skin is really flakey. Is there something lacking in his diet? Or does he need moisturiser or something? Anyone else had this problem? I've been giving him cod liver oil in his dinner for about a month now and it has improved very slightly. I am wanting to swap to mainly raw food as he's currently on some raw some tinned and some dry. Any ideas? Quote Link to post Share on other sites
sandymere 8,263 Posted September 6, 2011 Report Share Posted September 6, 2011 There is a little evidence that linoleic acid may help skin condition, this is commonly found in vegetable oil, both rapeseed and sunflower have plenty. Sirius 1,391 Posted September 6, 2011 Report Share Posted September 6, 2011 The first thing is get the diet right ideally a fresh diet with a good spectrum of nutrients from veg also supplementing with a High quality Evening Primrose Oil which is at least 10% GLA will do the job and a good mineral supplement will help such as Kelp Seaweed powder. I will try adding some veg and have been trying to source a good supplier of raw meat. All I can get hold of at the minute is liver, cheap mince and pig hearts which I know liver can only be fed in moderation. Are pig hearts ok to feed?
