Right gun

Alright chief Baikal's are always good to start off with for someone on a budget they have always built solid guns that will take getting knocked around. I started off with an old single barreled baikal and still have it and its fired thousands of cartridges through it and has never missed a beat.

I would say a Baikal too, i have two, a single barreled .410 and a semi-auto 12gauge....

I would say get the semi-auto if you can ;)

I have shot everything with mine in the 18months i have had it, from mallards to muntjac, with lots of rabbits and a few pigeon thrown in, i also have a spanish side by side (this was my first gun) and now i use exclusively the semi-auto, the side by side is my spare and the .410 is my lads

have a look at this link-stuff i have shot since last july, doesn't include all the rabbits or woodies

Baikal! :good: Spot on!

I well remember when they first came onto the market. Cheap, functional, Russian. Nothing what so ever wrong with them. That must have been over thirty odd years ago? I know people with them now. Still nothing what so ever wrong with them.

Really quite the First Gun of choice and now even beyond that :)

Third vote for Baikal (MP-153 semi automatic) here. Mine fires from 28g 7.5 clay carts through to 64g BB's without a fault. Haven't tried anything lighter than 28g in it but I never needed to adjust the gas port for any load. Shoots very well for me, you seriously cannot go wrong with one :thumbs-up:

Had a couple of shots through a friends over&under Baikal, bit much of a kick for me but I've not fired any other over&under's to compare it with.

There are some great guns out there for not a lot of money, baikal are indeed good, but dont suit everyone, as they are usually a little short in the stock, being made in russia, who are generally a shorter race of people, remember, if it doesnt fit properly, you will never shoot well with it. The best bit of advice i could give you, is buy it from a gunshop, who know how to tell if a gun fits you, youi might pay a little more, than a private sale, but it will pay dividends in the long run. My tip for a good cheap gun, are the Escort range of auto,s and pumps, they are turkish, and excellent value.

Lanber are a great gun for the money, so are AYA.

But, baikals are still the winner when money is the deciding factor. Durable and reliable, easy to keep.

I should of sayed AYA aswell i currently have 2 in the gun safe 1 is a nice box lock 20 bore which great for rabbits and pigeons and the other is my Matador 10 bore for ducks and geese both are great solidly build guns that shot well.
