ajm1979 0 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Share Posted April 14, 2011 Got in the Navara on Monday and noticed the 4wd light Flashing. Had a search on google and apparently its a common fault. The three 4wd sensors/switches on the transfer case allow moisture to get in then fail...Bummer especially as the Fourtrak is off the road with a fuel problem and needing some welding for mot. After much searching the net ended up ringing Benfield Nissan. A short phone call later and my day had got worse, £ + Vat just to put on diagnostic machine, then if as suspected its was the sensors it would be £362 + vat...So a minimum of £550, One word gutted, No money for a .223. After another search of google I rang a real friendly chap at City Motors Carlisle,Small 4x4 specialist who said he would run diagnostic for £35. Booked it in and of course cancelled Nissan appointment. Dropped the car off after a quick chat at 2pm today and spent the next few hours with my fingers crossed. Phone rang at 4.30 to say it was ready. When i arrived at the garage I was amazed, Justin had decided not to waste my money on diagnostic, he had taken out all the switches, cleaned them up and greased them put everything back together...and it was fixed, the total bill £21,I couldn't believe it! So if anyone is in need of someone near Carlisle to sort out a 4x4 without paying through the nose I couldn't recommend anyone higher than Justin at City Garage, Carlisle.Now just hoping to get the Fourtrak no the road again. Urban Fox Control London 8 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Share Posted April 14, 2011 I have just go my Nissan Pathfinder back having trashed the drivers side in the snow by glided into a ditch/hedge. The damage totalled £8k. I am sure the 4x4 was not working correctly at the time as the insurance refused to carry out any works until Nissan could get it out of 4x4. Nissan stripped the auto gear box down and tried allsorts to get it out with no joy. Eventually, they changed the solenoid and the 4x4 popped out and all was well !!!! The above process took Nissan a month to crack ! The traction at the time of the accident was zero. I slide sideway doing around 1-2 MPH max. I am thinking about getting a set of General Grabber AT2 tyres before next winter. The original factory standard tyres are Goodyear which are on it at the moment. My Pathfinder is the best car I have ever owned and would highly recommend them as a SUV. Does anyone else on here have a Pathfinder and what tyres are you using? Qbgrey 3,981 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Share Posted April 14, 2011 these posts are the reason i lost all faith in nissans i agree they are a good looking truck,plenty of room and nice to drive but if probs keep happening it means nothing,i nuse at2 s on my truck and find them good enough,but to save a bit on fuel i considered keeping a set proper offroad tyres for the winter then changing back to a set of summers tyres. The start/stop selanoid stuck on my fuel injector pump so priced a replacement, nissans reply " im sorry, its a non serviceable part! you will need a new FIP, at a cost of £2625 + VAT " Or easily translated as " sorry, computer says no! " It cost me £3 for a socket and a bit of fettling to make a tool, job sorted. Makes you think how many people take it on the chin and have their pants pulled down, good and proper!! Believe me I don't mind back street garage's as the main guy I use for all my vehicles is a small 2 man operation locally who is great normally with the fourtrak and even did quite a bit on my Bmw's but not the best with electrical bits so tried elsewhere and have possibly stumbled on a little gem of a garage. Have got him pricing a full full service for the Nav inc diff fluids etc Quote Link to post Share on other sites
