Working staffy advice

Recommended Posts

Ive recently bought a staffy pup (obviously not old enough to work yet) and i want him to be able to work. But the line of work i want him 2 do is sit ontop of a rabbit warren whilst i send the ferrets down and without the nets catch the rabbits when they bolt. I was just wondering is this legal? and has anyone got any training advice? and to give you a rough idea he is " a long-legged staffy"

Thanks

Not been funny but a small lurcher or whippet would be more siutable for your job.I like the staff's but cant see them been fast enough for a bolting rabbit,ok it might nail an odd one but could'nt see the catch rate been very high.JMHO.

Yes it,s legal , and you should be able to break your pup to ferrets , but as has already been said I can,t see your catch rate being good although you should have fun . ATB

its just basicaly to keep the dogs mind going and keeping him active, most of the time i will be putting purse nets down for better results

it was advice hes not going to suit the job you have in mind for him. saying that i had a full staff before and he was probably the easiest to train and obedient dog ive ever had. you will need to introduce the dog to the ferret at a early age.

I also like saffys and will probably be getting one in the future to work bushes and just mooch with my other dogs.

As said, they probably aren't ideal and there are better dogs out there. But if your not playing the numbers game then I bet you will have some fun!!!
