Hi chaps, for the last couple of weeks I have been searching through old posts from people who charge for traditional mole catching.. For the last few years I have stayed at home to care for my autistic daughter, and in my spare time I have been trapping moles on friends farm and pigeon shooting.. Now my daughter has settled into special school I would like to bring in some income from mole catching..At the moment I'm struggling to put a price plan together for i.e golf clubs, farms, large country estates. I would like to go down the road of having a set price plan so people know the price I charge will be the price they pay at the end of the job. So far I will be looking to charge a domestic rate with grounds upto an acre £90..

I would also like to go down the route of offering contract pricing for people to bring in some sort of steady flow of income each month.. Do any of you guys do this, and does it work for you.. Please feel free to pm me if you do not wish share on an open forum.. Thank you for your time chaps..

Personally i have a price for a standard garden and another for larger jobs, there can be a massive difference between a normal garden and an acre. Contract moling is a no-no, dont bother.

Make sure your insured up to the hilt too.

Another mole catcher! They are multiplying faster than the moles!

Im not knocking you for what your trying to do, fair play pal......BUT I just cant understand why people need to ask what to charge.

Work out how long it will take you. Work out your expenses, Work out how much you need to earn per day and the answer is staring you in the face.

And if you doing it as a side line and not declareing it or having the proper insurance then dont expect priceing tips from someone who does it to pay the morgage.

Sorry if that sounds like im trying to be negative and it sounds like your asking how people charge rather than how much so I should prob just keep my gob shut. good luck.

:hmm: Why no contract moling, if you work out your costs just the same it can be as good as one off jobs and the customer does not have to worry about any moles that appear as you will be at the end of your phone to sort them out if any pop up in between your contract visits.

Hello to the mole catchers. I only recently discovered these forums & Hunting Life. Lots of interesting stuff posted on here.
Part of my duties as a maintenance man on a private estate is pest control and that's how I got into mole catching. I'd done plenty of rats, mice, wasps and ants etc before the mole hills started bubbling up, so I found an old Duffus in a drawer and went from there. I started doing private mole jobs last year - all gardens so far - and have started generating a useful 2nd income out of it. Just beer money at the moment but more than enough for a few pints. I like the work and am fascinated by all the different traps and their suitability to different situations. I use a lot of Traplines and I'd be interested to have other opinions on them - the good, the bad and the ugly if you like. Although I carry Duffus and Talpex, I've gotten into the bad habit of defaulting to tlines which has revealed that certain moles won't have anything to do with them - they seem to just chuck 'em out the way. They also often fire without catching. Not on every job, but often enough to remind me that there is always another tool for the job. I really like the Trapline, and I'm working on refining my setting technique constantly. Just wondered what other mole men's experiences with them were. And to say hello.

      Just out of interest......

Which trap do you reach for first? You can explain why if you choose.

For me, it's the Duffus every time, although I can see the attraction of the Talpex type traps.
