Interfering 'dog lovers'

Recommended Posts

People that dont work dogs will never have the same understanding/knowlegde/respect for the animals. They are absolutly clueless. These are the same 'dog lovers' that care for their pets so much they feed them shite, treat them like kids making them horrible b*****d things with no manners and end up as fat as pigs. Then they have the nerve to complain about hunting with dogs :censored:

Everyone who doesn't work their dogs is NOT absolutely clueless. Many do have understanding/knowledge/respect for animals and can train them very well. Many don't feed their dogs shit and treat them like kids.

And not all of them complain about hunting.

But you have just made the same sort of sweeping general statement that some pet homes make about working ones. Seems that sort of person exists on both sides of the proverbial hedge

Totally agree, there are clueless aresholes on both sides.

i can tell if someone is switched onto dogs just by their reaction when i tell them that my dogs are kept outside in a kennel all the time winter or summer.

when my mum & dad got married they got a dog from the rescue centre they took him to an obedience class and he lasted two weeks before he got "expelled" my grandad who kept working dogs all his life had him trained (sit, laydown, stay) in 1 hour.

Indeed - what about some of the questions/statements about dog care and training you read on this site? :icon_eek:

No really a problem but i'm sick of people telling me how nice looking my greyhound is and having to explain that she's a Collie x Greyhound lurcher and also follows with "whats a lurcher" i once explained in detail and I was given a dirty look so I now just say "a different type of running dog with more brains"

we just say "kinda like a greyhound" ... makes it easier than explaining anything really, unless we are talking to a farmer, then we go into more depth hoping for more permission!

I just say ye to what ever they ask. They go away happy & i don't have someone following me around the field asking stupid questions. "is that a grehound?" yes, is that a "whippet?", yes, "does it bite?", yes, "what type of dog is that?", yes its a dog :toast:

When I tell people I feed raw meat and bones I get some while looks........ I don't bother trying to tell people how much better that stuff is than a 100% dry diet but I feel smug when I hear people on about buyin £30 bags of royal canine because it's the best

I've been at the recieving end of this possibly because I live in a big town and have rarely come across anyone who wants to work their dogs.

While they are nice people the are very blinkered and I suffered from people giving my dogs food without asking me.

I frequently get funny looks when I answer the question about puppy classes and even more so when I tell them I am not having my dog castrated!

There's a bloke who has just started walking his dogs round 'my lakes, (LOL): one is a dishmop fluffy white thing and the other two are show bred beagles: totally unsocialised, 8 months old and have no recall whatsoever. I don't even think this bloke owns a dog lead, but he's taken to sitting by the edge of a lake in a public place along with his girlfriend/wife, whatever: so when I take my mutts down to the lake for a swim these two nut job beagles go ballistic, barking and carrying on, one, the dog, coming away from the owner and menacing my pack. Well, its hardly menacing is it: an 8 month old beagle.

When I first started meeting this muppet I stood my dogs to one side of the path, made them sit and wait so he could attempt to get his fear agressive beagles past. Once I stood rooted to the spot with my (and I'm so proud of them!) lurchers and terriers, for at least 5 minutes while he went and retrieved one of the beagles that had done a runner. The bloke never even thanked me for waiting.

One day I'd finally had enough and asked him to get his dogs on a lead after they followed mine, barking and growling: the tw*t said that mine weren't on a lead and so why should he get his on a lead!!! Some people are just so thick that they don't even realise what their dogs are doing. I've tried to be nice and make helpful suggestions (maybe that has made him worse LOL) so now I just ignore him and his horrible hounds: they're beagles so sooner or later I reckon that even show bred ones will learn to use their noses and he'll find them 2 counties away......with a bit of luck LOL

Yes there are some IDIOT pet owners who really shouldn't be allowed dogs, but the same also applies to a lot of folk who work their dogs. The idea that you MUST work your dog in order to have a proper connection is bollocks, i mean look at some of the homeless folk - their dogs f*****g LOVE them. Also i always find it funny, we try so hard and feel so proud when we have our dogs recalling and retrieving live to hand, and so many pet owners don't even think about it - little fluffy always comes when called and will bring a ball back to hand a hundred times.
