Recommended Posts

Hi guys, i don't normally post in here but a friend of mine who does a lot of stalking has just brought a Bavarian Mountain Hound . . . . . . OMG its the cutest thing in the world. Just interested to know if anyone uses one in the field and what they think of their performance?

Not seen them in action but many pro's speak highly of them.

I use G.S.P.'S

Have seen them in action with wild boar abroad but they are teckle and teckle crosses, Also daushund /crosses.

Anyway some really nice photos thanks for sharing.

regards john.

i have seen both bavarian and hannoveran working( follow ups and hunting up). they obviously have a great nose.

they a said to be one man dogs, but will integrate into the family. they can be possessive/protective( people and hunting gear/game they were bred to protect too).

they have a good prey drive and are capable of "thinking" for themselves and problem solving.

a mate hed a hannoveran that he used to take on pheasant shoots( marking, retrieving the lot. this is an exception i think and would be frowned upon by the bgs/hs clubs).allthough the dog worked his intended quarry too.

dare i ask where he got her from? and what he paid( feel free to pm me).none of my buisness buti'm curious  )

a keeper friend( in germany) has had one now for about two years and is very happy with his progress,i must add the MAN is a gifted blood trailer with 30 years of experiance( mostly jagd terriers).

i wish you the very best with the beutifull dog :toast:

As i said the dog belongs to my friend, i think he got him from Kent, but don't quote me on that. I do know he researched the breed massively and spoke to a fair few working breeders before making his selection.

The Dam was also trained to retrieve as well as tracking, i think he said, not the most conventional of breeds for the job, but by all accounts she did her job well.

Obviously i won't be working or training the dog, but i will keep you posted on his progress. My role is to snog him daily at the moment!!

My pal has a Bavarian ...you need put in three times what you want out of it ..purely as a tracking dog they want some beating ...but they need a knowledgable owner with the patience of a saint ..
