Just had my mate on the phone, she says a weasel has killed 40 of her chickens. She wants rid of it but hasnt got a clue where to start. Any ideas?

Most likely a mink or maybe a stoat Julia, this is a bit beyond the scope of a little weasel IMO

I would think the culprit is a bitch mink.......probably with a load of kits somewhere. Can you tell me where the birds were killed.....IE bite to the neck, back of skull etc? If it is a mink, then a couple of cage traps may be the answer as stated. Is she anywhere near a watercourse of any sorts?

Their necks are all broken and half heads eaten.

Might even be a vixen with cubs - are any of them buried, or half buried? Or are they dragged into corners of the pen??

Did she see the culprit??

Yes i am beginning to think fox.........certainly no mink would "Break" necks.........badly bitten yes, and the base of the skull eaten away. Were the hens free range? would a fox have been able to get them......IE not locked in a shed of some sort. A fox would certainly kill far more than it required.......i have seen the result of such a killing frenzy many times.
