  1. Hi I'm looking for suitable land around Downham Market / Swaffham area to purchase deer shooting rights annually - any leads appreciated. Thanks
  2. My doctor has just informed me that all members in the practice have taken a stance and are no longer signing FAC applications and or renewals anyone else had same issue and any advice ??
  3. After seeming to spend most of the weekend messing about I managed to get out this evening and extended an invite to a fella I work with who has a young dog he’s gundog training. He lives near a bit of ground I shoot and his 10 mth bitch was making good progress so I said bring her along if he wanted. It would make a nice change to have the security blanket of a dog to help you find those last light runners! Anyway, we did a bit of walking - the dog saw something I didn’t but I didn’t realise til a roe was bounding away. After that the dog needed another mile to calm itself down! Got
  4. Up to see in the dawn which promised to be a decent day . Got to a local perm in plenty of time to evaluate the wind and where to head for first . The very first field held what appeared to be a tiny button buck on its own and just what I needed for a chap I’m working for at the moment who’s been pestering for a beast . Easy stalk to within 70 yards , deer feeding slowly away unaware . On sticks and back of the head shot to which 8 more explode from the hedge including a buck still in hard antler . No point in dropping anymore today so watched them move on into next field . Just about to start
  5. 2 Big Roe bucks shot with a Sako a7 in .308 using 150gr Hornady bullets. Swarovski Z4i & ELRange. We are on the hunt this week for Roe Bucks. Good numbers of deer on this ground showing some huge heads. In this video we show a great trophy buck taken and a smaller 6 pointer as well. The first buck is a cracking buck still in its youth and the second is only a couple years old but has thrown tremendous antlers for such a young animal. We spotted a big trophy on the same ground earlier in the morning but have decided to leave that for someone else to pull the trigger!
  6. My first ever Roe buck very happy great evening out with a top guide in the lovely Cornish countryside
  7. The phone rang, it was the landowner of my patch in Dorset saying the freezer was empty and there were a lot of deer about. This statement was followed by a pregnant pause which I was quick to fill with a date in the diary! Having neglected this place for a few months and still conscious of my promise to Foxdropper to put him on a stag we found ourselves before dawn at the venue last weekend. We were early and hungry as the MacDonalds we normally stopped at was closed for a refurb - The injustice of it all! As our stomachs protested we went over the game plan and as first light came kitted up
  8. A video i made to show how to call in does: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vuv9X2txJDQ
  9. Due to family commitments and a mate's wedding, I was unable to get out until last night. It was fairly blustery and showery round our way, but I thought there would be a good chance of a beast out feeding on some of the valley floor fields, close to the woodland. I saw this wee fellah and his sister tucked right in against the dry stane dyke, feeding on the grass there.....about 110 yards away.....I took him slightly further back than normal, downhill shot and he was at an angle towards me, but a clean kill and he only managed to jump at the shot and was dead right away. The hollow-po
  10. Does anyone have dsc1 questions in a form that could be shared by email please If so I'm at. Dax@clydedoors.com. Thanks in advance for anyone who does and is happy to share

  14. I picked up a new bit of ground about 8 months ago, just rabbits at first. I knew there were deer on there but there was, quite understandably trust to be earned from the landowner before things progressed any further. I've worked pretty hard clearing felled trees and was actually offered the 'upgrade' when I delivered some venison sausages i'd made with a bottle of plonk. He said there was another stalker on the ground but that we were both welcome. I met the other stalker in the third week of March when I was out trapping moles on the ground. I wondered over to introduce myself as he was
  15. Looking at a swarovski z4i 3-12-50 for a 22-2250 t3 lite Mainly for foxes and roe up to max 300 yards ( but usually under 200 yards )any comments please I'm not sure as I have been using my mates z6i and I'm wondering if this is going back the way and will I regret it Help please lads ?????
  16. This particular patch has a pretty narrow window of certainty for roe bucks and thats before the pasture gets silaged and the cows are let out - after that its game over and you can only hope to stumble across one. At only 100 odd acres of fields and hedges surrounded by much better, varied ground its not exactly a magnet but serves as a vaccume for yearlings when they're booted out and the occasional decent buck which follows the does in spring to fawn in the long grass. Sadly most of these get chopped up in the mower despite my best efforts but thats another story. Whilst I've been lucky
  17. Well here I am, new member on his first full proper shooting season of Roe Bucks. I was out on day one ( 6 am ) with Kevin n Big Dave ( who are helping me through my apprenticeship, thanks guys) stalking two different areas and after day one I hadn't fired a gun although Kev had what could be a Gold Medal Buck and Big Dave had one in the bag too ( so no pressure Dax ). Managed to get out around 7pm on day two with Big Dave ( who promised me a Buck ) and we park up, we walk less than 300 yards to the top of the hill in cover, wee look over the horizon and there he is, a lovely big Buck free o
  18. This is the head of the buck that I shot back in september, not a medal, but a nice sized buck and a very decent head for where I shot it. The area does not produce any really big heads..... I'm pleased with it! Doh! Didnt attach!

  20. Monday looked to be a nice break in the weather and Martin was keen for such an opportunity to be put to good use, kindly inviting Foxdropper and myself down to look for a buck. The weather was close and clammy and its was pouring off us as soon as we got out the truck, Martin was looking to fill the chiller up with rabbits so he was stalking the lower part of the valley with the .22. FD and I were headed further up the lush hay fields interspersed with copses to wait up for a buck. I hadn't been here before and FD directed me to a field which looked to be recovering for a second cutting a
  21. I couldn't get up this early for work but for a dawn stalking session in Wiltshire with my mate Foxdropper it was no problem at all. I met up with him and Foxhunter who was down for the weekend just before first light and after a brief catch up we were off in the car with great expectations to visit a place which is known to hold some solid bucks. The general plan at this time of year was to trim off any cull animals in preparation for the rut which had been successfully done by the pair the two days previously but FD generously said that if a decent buck presented itself on this ground and wa
  22. I was in the highseat for 5am on Saturday at my small patch of ground down in Dorset. The priority of the weekend was rabbit netting & snaring but having said that it would be a shame not to get in the woods for a little of stalking and a dose the good stuff - crisp morning air, dawn woodland bird song and the sweet aroma of douglas fir. The gloom of dawn gradually gave way to daylight and as usual with any highseat shooting whilst scanning vigilantly stopped me getting board I got restless to get up and move about. Ignoring my numbing posteria I was eventually rewarded buy the sight o
  23. does anyoe have a roe antler knocking about? i need one for a knife handle,i dont mindgiving a couple of quid for it ( and paying postage of course). it would need to be at least 4 inches and of a reasonable thickness. pm any pics or add on this thread. cheers, mike. waidmannsheil!!
  24. Its time my old dog went that long one way walk and he is starting to suffer. The only thing is he hates the vet and i really don't want to take him there and put him on a table to die in the cold clinical room while others out side get there soft pot lickers there first jags seems the wrong way to do things to me. So is it legal for me to take him a walk to his favourite hill and just put him to sleep there my self.
  25. Questing bucks and single does but no real chasing since the one shot earlier in the month. Cold nth winds and drizzle not helped though. We have has some luck though haveing one buck missed twice from a stationary combine (parked up) and 3 foxes shot in 2 days as well as 2 four pointers. The one this morning was shot after seeing him near a doe box we stalked to the box and waited after the calling did nowt. 20 mins later out he came on a mission. It was now 9.45 am so late to be active. yesterdays buck. to dark to film last nights foxes could only see them in the zeiss binos and s
