  1. Despite a sad year, we have still so funny adventures, thanks to our dogs. I present You Prunelle, 18 months, patterdale female during a walk. At the beginning, this was just a little walk.
  2. Hello lads, merry Christmas and all that. I’ve got a terrier in my kennels that starting to test my patience. Great dog, keen as mustard and all that but time and time again I’ve broken through to her steadily baying away only to find she’s sat with something mid tube on one occasion I broke though and there was nothing there however last week I said to myself if I break through I’ll clear the tubes up and pop her back in to make sure it isn’t my fault rather than blame her. Lo and behold it was sat about a meter back from the open end of the tube and eventually bolted itself - Happy
  3. Morning lads, so I’ve always had black fell terriers and work them to ground. But for a few years I’ve noticed people starting work slightly broken coated very short coupled terriers that are little savages. I never really get a clear answer to what’s in them but I really like the look of them. one chap told me he’d crossed his Sealyham with a Russel and it turned out a good little worker. Just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with this breeding specifically for earth work? thanks
  4. Good evening Gents, Using this platform again as I find it a great way to reach out into a pool of knowledge and great experience. Now I don’t work my terriers to hounds here in Ireland, but more than often will find myself having a wonder about my permission and trying the terriers in some common spots. However, I have noticed I’ve drawn more blank days than good and wanted to know what those who don’t work terriers under hounds provide consistent work for their own, how do you go about your day out to guarantee an earth will be occupied and how do you feel about drawi
  5. I’ve just finished reading Nick Stevens book called “An obsession” and found it a really good read with a great insight into the life of a professional terrier man (Pre-ban). It got me wondering what made a great terrier man for the hunt, I know there are the obvious answers but Nick went into great depths discussing the success in fox population from good cover-laying in comparison to building artificials and went into great detail about the country and we’ll know earths. are there any well weathered terrier men that could cast their opinions into the past world of hunting and
  6. Letting off the lead - Hello chaps, I was given a Powell bread bitch from a close friend who didn’t have the space nor time to accommodate. She came to my kennels at seven months, very game and unfortunately doesn’t always mix well with other dogs. I like to be able to walk mine off the lead, have them stock broken and have some recall! But this bitch is the most pig headed thing, off the lead, her head goes down and she’s off. I’ve tried and tried to improve things but she will not listen. Since having her I’ve accommodated for her ways and brought her on slowly, she

  15. Wandering what you guys think is the best way to enter a terrier. My bitch is 1 and a half had her going ratting most weeks since last November and wanna give her a go on something else. Lots off people have be saying build a tunnel and lots have been saying go find a fox earth and see what’s she does. Wandering what’s the best way to prep her and that. Cheers
  16. Only because i seen a topic abut these islands in the fishing section and remember that John Park sent over two youngsters to deal with a fox problem after the war (1980's!) Not read the Park book by Frein as yet, so anyone know how they got on...?
  17. I would just like to give my old bitch a mention. This bitch earned her keep everyday for me for the past 11 + years I had the pleasure of working her. She never really put a thing wrong and always give her best. She had one of the best noses I have seen and It’ll take some dog to replace her. I can honestly say that I’m going to miss this bitch and I’ll be a happy man if I ever get anything else as half as good as she was. RIP old lass.
  18. Hi, I have a 5 year old JRT and he seems to be Keen on the ratting and rabbiting and I am just wondering would he still be keen on the Charlie’s? Bare in mind he’s tame though. So I was just wondering if anyone could help me please?
