  3. Armagh Sporting Dog Charity Show. ( Fiona Devlins Show ) Sunday 23rd June 19 As the ringing tones of my mobile phone rang out forcefully, signalled the start of a new day and another great sporting event on the horizon. With dogs in trailer we drove through the heart of Orchard County and down the motorway to the now famous Feaghbridge Schooling Track. Situated on the outskirts of Coalisland Co Tyrone, and lies along side the shores of Lough Neagh, Feaghbridge schooling track was the venue for Fiona Devlins Armagh Sporting Dog Charity Show and Race day Sunday 23rd June 19. We arrived at the track around 10.30am, got the dogs signed in for racing, and then parked up for another great sporting event. The ground filled up fast, with canine folk from North and South of the border, and by the start of show time the venue was full to capacity. As this show was for charity, families and trailers arrived in abundance with their Canine friends, all barking and crooning the dog chorus, and full of winning spirit. Paddy and Jade Dunphy travelled all the way from New Ross in County Wexford, as did Liam and Conor Nolan from Roscrea, Co Tipperary. Great people and great Country Sports enthusiasts. The weather was good, and although a little cloudy at times, there was no rain in sight. The children had a field day with burgers and chips on site, and loads of room for them to play safely, under the watchful eye of parents and family. It was evident from the start this show was going to run like clockwork, as Fiona is an experienced hand in that area. This young lady has run many very successful shows over the years. The organisation and timing was impeccable, resulting in the show keeping to schedule and starting on time. As the day progressed, it was raffle time and then the excitement began. There were some great prizes in the raffle, and some very happy campers going home, and all for a good cause. The Racing started at approximately 11.30 followed by the showing. Here are Racing and Showing Results: Racing Results Puppy Derby Champion For Race Bred Pups under 42lb Fiona Devlin with Rebel Country (Batman) Reserve Conor Nolan with Della. Billy Harpur was there with his camera, and I also took some photographs with my mobile. These are all up on my time line at the moment. And Finally, the best is always left to last. What can I say that will gather the skills, fuelled spirit and determination together of this young woman Fiona Devlin. Along with your brilliant back up team, you have pulled together another great sporting event with super efficiency. Finally, Finally, Fiona, you are a great Country Sportswoman, with the sport very close to your heart. Again this year you run another top class show, and thank you for a most enjoyable and memorable day out at Feaghbridge. And the good news, the proceeds from this Charity show is going to “The Cancer Fund For Children” Remember all good Canine men and women its your money that will help ease the pain in some small way of some of our little people suffering from this terrible disease. Cancer has no mercy on young or old. I know, I was that soldier. Fiona you are a woman in a million with a giving heart, and well done for this very worthy cause. Many thanks for the lovely presentation you made to myself and Kirsty Harpur on the day. We truly appreciate it. I am already looking forward to your next show in 2019. Margaret Mc Stay

  5. The Great Games Fairs of Ireland & Country Lifestyle Festival week ending 15thand 16thJune 2019, at Ballybrit Race Course, Co Galway. In Country Galway by the sea, in the shadow of the wild atlantic way lies the beautiful Ballybrit Race Course. On this historical site, the first racing festival took place on 17th August 1869 where it is believed 40,000 people turned up to watch this grand event. The racecourse measures one and a half miles long and excelles any other course in Ireland. Ballybrit has a long and exciting history and has become what is now one of the most famous tracks in the world. This was the new venue for The Great Games Fairs of Ireland & Country Lifestyle Festival week ending 15thand 16thJune 2019. And what a weekend that was. After a 162 mile journey following our lead driver Maurice Mc Dowell, who we meet on our way down and was our guiding light, we arrived save and sound at the race course at 10.00am. Although the weather was not kind to us, this did not dampen the spirits of the good Country Sports people who came out from all areas of Country life to attend this big event. It was not long to we were browsing around the many stands and attractions that this brilliant Game Fair had to offer. The Mourne Clothing Company had some fine Country wear on display, as did my old favourites Charlie Keenan, Edinburgh Clothing Company and Barbour. There were Clay pigeon shooting, Gun Dogs, Dog shows, amusements, and ice cream and swetties stands for the Children. Everything for a good family day out. Retail therapy at an end, hunger took over, so we treated ourselves to some of the tasty food on offer on the site. The sun shone bright to early afternoon, but all of a sudden the sky darkened and the heavens opened. And that it did. But the show must go on. Time passes so quickly, it was soon time to head back to the show ring and our high light of the day, the dog show. Here are the Championship Results for Showing. Champion Whippet Raphael O Reilly with Sky Champion Lurcher Mark Dupplaw with Booty Reserve Champion Tina Morrissey with Eddie Champion Terrier Keith Breen with Busker Reserve Champion Eamo Mc Erlain with Spooky Champion Puppy Niall O Cloghan with Ryder Congratulations to all above winners, hope to see Whippet/Lurcher/Terrier, all at Shanes Castle for the 5 Nations Championships on Sunday 30thJune. And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the judges, who stood out in the pouring rain and judged so fair and efficiently on the day. Whippets Jim Dalton Lurchers Niall Healey Terriers Jed Brady And Finally, Finally, many thanks to Tom Barry and his wife Leanne and their back up team for running the dog show so smoothly despite the heavy rain, and also everybody that stood in the ring. A lot of hard work goes into running and organising these shows, and thank you for that. What comes to mind when a dream comes true. Hard work , sleepless nights, a brilliantly successful Game Fair and Country Lifestyle Festival, and a new venue. Many thanks again to Albert Titterington, the rock in his life his wife Irene, and Co Directors for another great Game Fair weekend in the pleasant countryside of County Galway. Onward and upward, and on to the daddy of them all, yes Shanes Castle Game Fair, Saturday 29thJune and 30thJune 19. See you all there Margaret Mc Stay

  11. The Northern Ireland Country Fair at Scarva Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May 2019 What a glorious weekend we had at the annual Northern Ireland Country Sports Fair held in the majestic grounds of the beautiful Scarvagh Estate. Rising by the bell on both days, it was great to be alive, in good health, and with our dogs in toe, we arrived at the venue for Northern Ireland Country Sports Fair at approximately 10.30. As we arrived in the field the atmosphere was electric with the sound of barking dogs, sweet music, breakfast wafting in the air, and the stall holders setting out their wares for the day. Every year this Fair grows from strength to strength, and this year was no different. Dogs exercised, fed and watered, we headed up into the Fair for some retail therapy and we were not disappointed. There was everything there from a needle to an anchor. We stopped off with Stephen Smyth on the Barbour stand for our usual chat. Stephen is such a nice man, always so welcoming and a great salesman. Next stop was Cahill Collars, the Burger stand as we were starving, and finished up at the outdoor clothing stand buying too much and penniless. Matthew Downey provided a superb display of top class entertainment in the Ferret showing and racing ring. Matthew your show is a credit to you, very well run and most enjoyable. John Warrener Wray and his lovely family were there with boxes of Ferretts and all winners. Some Ferrett Showing and Racing Results. It was very evident a lot of preparation went on behind the scenes to make this show a most enjoyable day for everyone. All events went without a hitch, and some very happy people went home with another nice rosette or trophy for the mantle piece. None of this would be possible if it were not for Gillian and Derek Lutton and your brilliant back up team. You sure know how to organise a Country Sports Fair. You left know stone unturned, and thank you most sincerely for the golden memories we have taken away with us. We all had a ball, and are already looking forward to more of the same in 2020. 15. The DWTC Dog Show and Race Day, Sunday 12thMay 19. The sun was breaking through the clouds as we drove through the heart of Apple Blossom country, on our way to the Annual DWTC Dog Show and Race Day at Sandy Heaks Modern Farm on the outskirts of the beautiful village of Scarva. As the time for shining in the field has finished for another season, the DWTC dog show was a good opportunity to give our canine friends a treat after the long cold winter. By midday the field was filled to capacity, with barking dogs, trailers, and families, all taking in the first rays of the summer sun. Shows are an exciting way to challenge both yourself and your dog, while meeting people in an atmosphere of healthy competition. And certainly there was plenty of competition on the day. There was a big turnout and a great mix of Lurchers, Terriers, Whippets, Strong dogs and racing dogs. In the ring it was a judges nightmare and some very hard decisions to make. Some very tasty burgers were cooked and served on site by Trisha Gilmore, and collars and leads sold from the stand of Cahill Collars. As I walked around the rings it was evident how popular this show is. It is always a pleasure to stop and chat with the good men and women of the Canine world, who are always so courteous and respectful to me. These people are all good country sports people, who love to show and race their dogs in the summer and work in the field in winter. Time passes so quickly when you are enjoying yourself, and very soon it was time to start the show. Here are the Overall Showing Results. And Finally, Finally, the memories of this show will linger on with me for some time to come. The craic and the banter was good and a brilliant atmosphere all around. None of this would have been possible without Leanne and Tom Barry and all their brilliant back up team who all worked so tirelessly to make this show so successful on the day. Some sleepless nights in the Barry household, but all well worth it and a real credit to Tom and Leanne and everybody involved. Roll on 2020 for more of the same. Margaret Mc Stay

  22. Abbeyleix Lurcher, Terrier, Whippet and Hound Dog Show and Race Day . Sunday 14thApril 19 The quiet midland town of Abbeyleix came alive on Sunday morning 14thApril 19 with the echoes of barking dogs, as the Canine men and women from north and south of the border filled the field, for another days showing and racing at the now annual Abbeyleix Dog Show and Race day. The weather was not kind to us on the day, with continuous heavy rain and cold winds for most of the day. We arrived in the field around 10.00am, with a trouble free journey down to Abeyleix. Walking around the field I could see the rain was not going to dampen the spirits of our great huntsmen and women. It was evident after the long winter in the field, the time had come to allow their Canine friends a day out and to show off the other side of their talents in the show ring. The rings were well spaced out, with a brilliant race track , some lovely rosettes and trophies and loads of dog meal for our winning pooches. Families and children were out in force, with all the fun of the fair for the wee people. There was a bouncy castle, chip van, ice cream van, and stalls with plenty of hunting gear, dog leads, and every thing for all aspects of Country Sports and Country Life. Time passes so quickly, and very soon it was time for showing and racing. Here are the Results of The Abbeyleix Racing: Master McGrath over 23 1st/ Mark O Connor with Bear 2nd/ PJ Nolan with Missy 3rd/ Conar Nolan with Jody Mick the Miller 1st/ Michael McGrath with Amber 2nd/ Eddy Kane with Scooter 3rd/ Conor Nolan with Prince Open Whippet 1st/ Alex Savage with Murphy 2nd/ Barry Chambers with Jill 3rd/ Paddy McGrath Bobby Bullcross 1st/ Jed Donagh with Chunk 2nd/ Patrick Hempenstall with Billy 3rd/ Conor Nolan with Tyson U21 1st/ Paddy McGrath with Amber 2nd/Larry Connors with Rose Open Lurcher 1st/ Nicky Smith Scooby 2nd/ Michael McGrath with Tucker 3rd/ Kirsty Harpur with Sky Showing Results Pet class Champion Pet Willie O Meara with Rodge Reserve Champion Gail Canning with Roe Whippets Champion Whippet Alex Savage with Murphy Reserve Champion Amanda Delaney with Penny Terriers Champion Terrier Philip Dalton with Jess Reserve Champion Trevor Moody with Lucy Lurchers Champion Lurcher Jed Donagh with Jake Reserve Champion John Keane with Glin Hounds Champion Hound Adrienne Frost-Treadwell with Duhalla Lady 2017 Veteran Champion Vetern Mark Delaney with Junior Reserve Champion David Nolan with Julie Overall Show Champion Jed Donagh with Jake Reserve Champion Adrienne Frost-Treadwell with Duhalla Lady 2017 A Big Congratulations to Jed and Adrienne and all above winners. And Finally, on behalf of Brian and Charmaine, a big thank you to the judges for job well done. A very special word of thanks to a very talented photographer Jim Mulcahey, the other half of these two brilliant photographers, for the lovely photographs. We wish Jims wife Ann Marie a speedy recovery and hope to see you around the ring again with your camera very soon. And Finally, Finally, despite the terrible weather at Sundays show, Brian and Charmaine Grady and team, you produced a brilliant top class show, and sent some happy campers and their canine friends home with pride in their hearts, dog food, and an armful of trophies. It was evident a lot of sleepless nights and hard work went into getting this show together, but Brian and Charmaine you pulled it off 100%. Thank you for your friendship on Sunday, and I look forward to going back to Abbeyleix in 2020 for more of the same Margaret Mc Stay
  23. Avondhu Foxhounds Dog Show Sunday 31stMarch 19 What a fantastic turnout at the GAIN sponsored Avondhu Foxhounds Show held at the Event Center ,Corrin ,Fermoy, Co Cork Sunday 31st March 19. The weather was kind this year and despite it being Mother’s Day, there was a big turnout of families and wee people. There was a good mix of dogs on the day, with Hounds/Lurchers/ Whippets /Terriers/Gun Dogs and Pets in abundance. The quality of Dogs in the rings was second to none and a credit to their owners. After the long cold winter work in the field, it was a treat for them to show off their talents in the show ring. After a chat and a yearly get together with good friends, very soon it was show time. Here are the Showing Results : Champion Lurcher : Phil Owens with Eva : Qualified for Five Nations Champion Terrier : Eamo Mc Earlain with Sprigy : Qualified for Five Nations Champion Whippet : Mark Delaney with Junior : Qualified for Five Nations Champion Hound : Kevin Casey with Torton Champion Gun Dog : Alanna Flynn with Blaze Overall Show Champion : Eamo Mc Earlain with Sprigy A Big Congratulations to Eamo and all above winners. And Finally, The Avondhu Foxhounds Show members would like to thank the Judges on the day for a job well done. Jim Dalton - Whippets, Niall Healy - Lurchers, John Sweeney- Hounds. Maurice Keane - Terriers. Barry O Connell - Gun Dogs. Stacey O Dwyer - Pets. It was a bitter sweet event this year, as a true advocate of field work Noel Lambe who walked the fields and hedges each week with myself sadly passed away unexpectedly late last year. Noel was a very popular man in the Hound community and this was very evident with the huge turnout at his funeral. Noels family are well known in the area, and up to a couple of years ago had the oldest pack of Foot Beagles in the country. At our show today it was a very poignant and sad moment, tainted with a little pride as I Sean O Keeffe stood beside Noels daughter Ailish, as she presented the Noel Lambe Perpetual Cup in Noels memory, to Kevin Casey from the Galtee Foxhounds for Best Overall Hound. Noel my friend you will never be forgotten in the Hound world and may you rest in peace. The show was a great success and this is only attributable to the people who attended it. A big thank you to one and all for your support. Finally, Finally, I would like to thank all the Avondhu Hunt members involved who gave up their time and effort to help make this day a roaring success. I look forward to seeing you all again for more of the same in 2020. From the Pen Of : Sean O Keeffe

  25. Carlow Charity Dog Show and Raceday ( Stephanie O Connors Show) Sunday 7thApril 19 The River Barrow flows through the town of Carlow, and forms the historic boundary between the Counties Laois and Carlow. The settlement of Carlow is thousands of years old and played a major role in Irish history, serving as the capital of the country in the 14th century. Outside the town of Carlow is a little village with a big heart called Palatine. This was the venue for the Carlow Lurcher, Terrier, Whippet , Hound Dog Show and Race Day Sunday 7thApril 19. And what a show that was. Mrs Samsung rang her alarm at 4.30 on Sunday morning, and from then on in, our house was all stations go. Very soon we were on the road with dogs in toe, heading towards Mc Donalds in Newry to meet up with the rest of the convoy. It was very misty in the morning, but as the day went on the sun came out to play, and beamed down on us all day. We arrived at the venue around 10.00am, and by that time the field was filling up fast. The atmosphere was electric and the welcoming was as warm as the sunshine. Denise and Trevor Cahill and Jim and Christine Maher were there with their dog Leads and hunting gear stands, as well as an Ice Cream van and Chip van. As I walked around the field it was nice to meet up with some great huntsmen and women after the long cold winter. As Mr & Mrs Fox are gone off on their summer holidays, it gives our canine companions a chance of a break from their working schedule. Time flies by so quickly, and very soon it was Racing and Show Time. Here are some Results of the Showing and Racing. Childrens Handling Class The wee people were out in force in the pet ring and childrens handling class. What a turnout of our young huntsmen and women of tomorrow. One very proud little lady after winning the childrens handling class was Ava Boggan with her winning dog Angel. Congratulations Ava and well done. There were many more winners in the pet ring, to many to mention including Brooklyn Rafferty, Cormac Mc Killion, Abigal Morrissey Cleo Crosbie and Jade Dunphy. And Finally, Finally, as the saying goes, I always save the best to last. Yes, Stephanie and Mark O Connor and your brilliant back up team, this accolade goes to you. I can honestly say for a first time show, your show was run with a very high degree of skill and professionalism. The organisation and timing was impeccable, with a very well versed team. This was backed up with a brilliant venue and top prizes both in showing/racing and raffle. I am sure you had some sleepless nights but it certainly paid off. Thank you so much for a great and memorable day and above all for your friendship. And now for the icing on the cake. Mark and Stephanie made a whopping 1951.70euros the proceeds of last Sundays show. This huge amount was handed over today by Stephanie Mark and team to Carlow Mental Health Association and will be a great help to the lives of so many people to learn about Positive Mental Health. Excellent work Stephanie and Mark , a credit to you and congratulations again on a first class, first time run show, and I am already looking forward to more of the same in 2020. Margaret Mc Stay
