  4. The day commenced at beautiful Ballywalter House, Co Down, the venue for the launch of the “ Ballywalter Game & Country Living Fair “ 2012, to be held on 5th and 6th May at Ballywalter Park. This promises to be a great 2 day Game and Country Fair, with carriages, vintage vehicles, costumed players, traditional falconry, vintage angling, muzzle loading shooting, Victorian archery displays, Top Dog show and Racing, and Flavour Magazine Fine Food Festival. The Food Festival, based in the Victorian courtyard at Ballywalter, will bring together an eclectic mix of producers from the region, allowing visitors to sample and buy some of the finest food and drink available in Ireland. These will be from handmade preserves and local whiskey to artisan cheese and savoury salads. Of course the fair will step forward as well as back with some great up to date attractions including top game fair competitions and a wealth of other displays and exhibits. The beautiful surroundings of Ballywalter Park, and continual hum of the wonderful wild life it shelters in its many trees and shrubs, enhanced the enjoyment of to day. The sun shone in abundance, and the cameras were continually clicking, making sure every moment was captured as it happened. I met many friends and acquaintances from the Canine fraternity, along with their beautiful Canine companions and also made some new friends from other Country sporting events. May I take this opportunity of thanking Lord and Lady Dunleath & “The Directors of the Great Game Fairs of Ireland “ Especially Albert J & Irene Titterington for the beautiful lunch after the photo shoot in the “Wildfowler Inn “ Greyabbey. It was so much appreciated by all. Ballywalter Game & Country living Fair on the 5th & 6th of May will be two great days out for the whole family with something for everybody. Pencil these dates into your dairy now, and come along to what promises to be two great family days out. Hope to see you all there. Margaret Mc Stay .
  5. The Orchard County was buzzing with laughter and excitement yesterday, as the first dog show of the year took place at Annaghmore Raceway. This show was organised for Charity and run by Fiona Devlin right in the heart of apple country. With the beauty of the countryside, good company, and the sun shinning what more could we ask for on a great family day out. This was one of the largest Dog shows I have see in a very long time, and went without a hiccup. There were doggie men and women from North and South of the border all with two and three dogs in their trailer. Fiona your show was a real credit to you, and a roaring success. The good news is Fionas Charity Dog Show raised £715 for Cancer Charity after expenses. Look how much comfort that can give a person during treatment or in the last days of their life here on this earth. Many Many thanks to every one of you who attended this show, You all contributed to this very needy cause, and of this we are all truly grateful. None of us know what tomorrow will bring. Its nice to know that there are people standing in the wings to help us out when we need it.. Thanks again for your generosity. The Racing commenced at 1.30, There were 90 entries for the racing at this show. This was the largest amount of dogs racing that I have ever seen at any of the shows I have been at, and I am going to shows a very long time, to long to remember. Fiona arranged this in the memory of Eddie who sadly past away 6 weeks ago. May he rest in peace with the Angels in Heaven, and having this shield amoungest us will keep Eddies memory alive. 11. Microchipping your dog became a legal requirement today in Northern Ireland. In the consultation process on dog control I had put it to the representative organisations that they should support complusory mucro chipping as a trade off against abolishing the Dog License Fee completely. Unfortunately they thought they knew better and fought compulsory microchipping AND LOST. So we now have compulsory micropchipping AND this has been accompanied by a severe hike in license fees. So far this has cost me three microchip fees plus an extra £20 in dog license with a block license moving up from £12.50 to £32. This cannot be viewed as a success for our representative organisations so we hope they will get behind us in a campaign to help reverse the license fee hike. We are contemplating starting a campaign in the Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine to get the dog license abolished. With Northern ireland having the largest number of strays in the Uk the Dog Licensing system simply has not worked. And to have it operating in tandem with micro chipping just puts additional costs of dog control on the the shoulders of responsible dog owners. Can you indicate whether you wupport such a campaign? However as a service to our customers at the Ballywalter Game Fair on the 5th & 6th May we have arranged for the Dog's Trust to be present to micro chip dogs FREE of CHARGE. AND together with our special discounted admission vouchers for Shanes and Birr that you get when you purchase your Ballywalter Ticket - this really does offer the dog owner very good value. Obviously there is a limit to how many dogs the Trust can do each day so if you want to avail of this service get there early!
  12. All roads lead to the Charity Dog Show at Annaghmore Raceway Annaghmore Co Armagh next Saturday. Fiona has put in a lot of hard work in organising this special event, and a lot of sleepless night. As a cancer suffer myself in the past, I fully understand the importance of raising funds for this special charity, as they managed to get me over some very dark days in my life. So lets us all get behind Fiona and give her the support she deserves on the day. So next Saturday morning, pack up your vechicles early, with Dogs and Family in Tow and head for Annaghmore Raceway. It promises to be a great day. See you all there. Remember every penny you spend is helping some person to stay on this earth a little longer. Margaret Mc Stay

  15. Our Game Fairs are not just about Terriers, Lurchers and Whippets! Yes , we have good showing and racing planned for Sunday 6th May NOTE EARLIER STARTING TIME of 11.00am and main arena displays on the Saturday but the fair has also many other attractions for the whole family. Apart from there being more stands of all varieties, we have further improved the layout. Courtyard I have just had the final list of exhibitors in for the Flavour magazine Fine Food Festival which will be staged in the Courtyard at the Ballywalter Game fair on the 5th & 6th May. All I can say is it looks fantastically 'flavoursome' ! We have additional fine food stands on the main site so 'foodies' will be spoilt for choice with one of the largest arrays of fine food available at any game fair and instead of one cookery demo - we have two - one by the Ulster Pork & Bacon Forum in the courtyard and the other by our Go for Game chef Emmett Mc Court in the Angling Pavilion. The yard will also feature art and crafts, an existing display of taxidermy by James Sheals the Victorian taxidermist and a superb display of rabbits, guinea pigs and rare breeds of fowl which will keep the kids amused while the mums and dads enjoy persusing the fine foods. House & Lawns will host displays of vintage cars & carriages, falconry exhibits, fly casting competitions and tuition, game displays and a Napoleonic Military Encampment. Where are the guns and the Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine stand? This year moved from the courtyard to the entrance to the house beside the row of clothing stands . The Gunmakers Row extends to 1800 square feet and is one of the most varied you will see at any Irish Game Fair . It is supported by another 400 sq feet of vintage arms displays and quite uniquely a punt gunning demonstration on the lake. The clothing row has also been extended. The Irish Countrysport and Country Life magazine heads up our 'Year of the Salmon Angling Pavilion' and this is an area not to be missed not least for some mouth watering cookery displays of both game & fish cookery by Emmet Mc Court. Past & present and Fine Food, Craft & Tourism Pavilions plus a whole host of other stands and masses of things for kids to see & do make this one of the largest and best fairs ever organised at Ballywalter.
