Birr Castle is a large Castle in the town of Birr Co Offaly, The Castle is the seat of the Earls of Rosse, the Seventh of whom still lives in the castle to this day. There has been a Castle on this site since 1170. From the 14th to the 17th century the O'Carroll family was in residence. RURAL IRELAND SAYS ENOUGH! RISE at the Irish Game and Country Fair, Birr Castle, 25th & 26th August 2012 RISE (Rural Ireland Says Enough!), will be very much in evidence at the forthcoming Irish Game and Country Fair in Birr Castle on 25th and 26th August. At 1.15pm on Sunday 26th, a large contingent of RISE supporters from the various organisations will assemble inside the main entrance to the Castle and will be led to the main arena where a short address will be made by RISE spokesperson, Philip Donnelly of the Irish Masters of Beagles Ass -

Due to a mix up the children in the child's handling class at Birr, children did not get a prize for taking part, as is normal at our events. In spite of facing the worst that the 'Irish Summer' could throw at us the fair once again was a huge success. By far the largest and most successful event of its kind in the south of Ireland and with Shanes Castle Fair worthy of the title of one of the Great Game Fairs of Ireland. The Irish Working Terrier Federation are pleased to announce that they will have their stall close to the terrier ring at the upcoming Game Fair at Birr Castle, Co. Offaly this Sunday, August 26th. This will enable any new club to join the IWTF and any member clubs to join up new members. Subscription is 10 euro per adult and 4 euro for junior members. North West Terrier, Lurcher & Whippet club show Will be held at Barntop fun farm Donemana Strabane Co Tyrone BT82 0JD. On the 19th August 2012. There will be classes for Lurchers, Terriers, Whippets, Gundogs, Hounds, child handling classes and also a family pet show. This show is a qualifier for the 32 county champion of champions. Unfortunately our whippet judge has had to withdraw from judging at Birr on Sunday 26th August. We are very grateful to Paul Reynolds for taking on the job at short notice and we hope whippet owners give him a fantastic entry. The show starts at 12.30 sharp after the Mourne Digging Championships. PLEASE NOTE : Terrier, Lurcher and whippet competitors enter through Gate C. Please note there will be different ( to normal) exiting arrangements to take pressure of the entrance. Exhibitors will exit at the bottom of the field rather than going back up the field . It will be well signposted

I was thinking of trying to organise a coach for any members of the IWTF and any other people interested in making an effort to support RISE and the country game fair,I think a number of around 50 people would be needed to make it cost effective .the coach would be leaving from Belfast feel free to pm me if interested ? CHANGE OFF SHOW DAY... WORKIN TERRIER AND LURCHER/WHIPPET SHOW Due to a show been canceled we are havin our anual terrier n lurcher/whippet show on SAT 18th AUG in clough co.Down n.ireland. new venue this year and very easily found situated around 6miles from Downpatrick and around 5miles from castlewellen and is half mile from the small village of seaford. The racin will start around 11.30am and showin shortley after and then the diggin comp at end of day and wee note its the last chance
