  1. Abbeyleix Lurcher, Terrier, Whippet and Hound Dog Show and Race Day . Sunday 14thApril 19 The quiet midland town of Abbeyleix came alive on Sunday morning 14thApril 19 with the echoes of barking dogs, as the Canine men and women from north and south of the border filled the field, for another days showing and racing at the now annual Abbeyleix Dog Show and Race day. The weather was not kind to us on the day, with continuous heavy rain and cold winds for most of the day. We arrived in the field around 10.00am, with a trouble free journey down to Abeyleix. Walking around the field I could see the rain was not going to dampen the spirits of our great huntsmen and women. It was evident after the long winter in the field, the time had come to allow their Canine friends a day out and to show off the other side of their talents in the show ring. The rings were well spaced out, with a brilliant race track , some lovely rosettes and trophies and loads of dog meal for our winning pooches. Families and children were out in force, with all the fun of the fair for the wee people. There was a bouncy castle, chip van, ice cream van, and stalls with plenty of hunting gear, dog leads, and every thing for all aspects of Country Sports and Country Life. Time passes so quickly, and very soon it was time for showing and racing. Here are the Results of The Abbeyleix Racing: Master McGrath over 23 1st/ Mark O Connor with Bear 2nd/ PJ Nolan with Missy 3rd/ Conar Nolan with Jody Mick the Miller 1st/ Michael McGrath with Amber 2nd/ Eddy Kane with Scooter 3rd/ Conor Nolan with Prince Open Whippet 1st/ Alex Savage with Murphy 2nd/ Barry Chambers with Jill 3rd/ Paddy McGrath Bobby Bullcross 1st/ Jed Donagh with Chunk 2nd/ Patrick Hempenstall with Billy 3rd/ Conor Nolan with Tyson U21 1st/ Paddy McGrath with Amber 2nd/Larry Connors with Rose Open Lurcher 1st/ Nicky Smith Scooby 2nd/ Michael McGrath with Tucker 3rd/ Kirsty Harpur with Sky Showing Results Pet class Champion Pet Willie O Meara with Rodge Reserve Champion Gail Canning with Roe Whippets Champion Whippet Alex Savage with Murphy Reserve Champion Amanda Delaney with Penny Terriers Champion Terrier Philip Dalton with Jess Reserve Champion Trevor Moody with Lucy Lurchers Champion Lurcher Jed Donagh with Jake Reserve Champion John Keane with Glin Hounds Champion Hound Adrienne Frost-Treadwell with Duhalla Lady 2017 Veteran Champion Vetern Mark Delaney with Junior Reserve Champion David Nolan with Julie Overall Show Champion Jed Donagh with Jake Reserve Champion Adrienne Frost-Treadwell with Duhalla Lady 2017 A Big Congratulations to Jed and Adrienne and all above winners. And Finally, on behalf of Brian and Charmaine, a big thank you to the judges for job well done. A very special word of thanks to a very talented photographer Jim Mulcahey, the other half of these two brilliant photographers, for the lovely photographs. We wish Jims wife Ann Marie a speedy recovery and hope to see you around the ring again with your camera very soon. And Finally, Finally, despite the terrible weather at Sundays show, Brian and Charmaine Grady and team, you produced a brilliant top class show, and sent some happy campers and their canine friends home with pride in their hearts, dog food, and an armful of trophies. It was evident a lot of sleepless nights and hard work went into getting this show together, but Brian and Charmaine you pulled it off 100%. Thank you for your friendship on Sunday, and I look forward to going back to Abbeyleix in 2020 for more of the same Margaret Mc Stay
  2. Avondhu Foxhounds Dog Show Sunday 31stMarch 19 What a fantastic turnout at the GAIN sponsored Avondhu Foxhounds Show held at the Event Center ,Corrin ,Fermoy, Co Cork Sunday 31st March 19. The weather was kind this year and despite it being Mother’s Day, there was a big turnout of families and wee people. There was a good mix of dogs on the day, with Hounds/Lurchers/ Whippets /Terriers/Gun Dogs and Pets in abundance. The quality of Dogs in the rings was second to none and a credit to their owners. After the long cold winter work in the field, it was a treat for them to show off their talents in the show ring. After a chat and a yearly get together with good friends, very soon it was show time. Here are the Showing Results : Champion Lurcher : Phil Owens with Eva : Qualified for Five Nations Champion Terrier : Eamo Mc Earlain with Sprigy : Qualified for Five Nations Champion Whippet : Mark Delaney with Junior : Qualified for Five Nations Champion Hound : Kevin Casey with Torton Champion Gun Dog : Alanna Flynn with Blaze Overall Show Champion : Eamo Mc Earlain with Sprigy A Big Congratulations to Eamo and all above winners. And Finally, The Avondhu Foxhounds Show members would like to thank the Judges on the day for a job well done. Jim Dalton - Whippets, Niall Healy - Lurchers, John Sweeney- Hounds. Maurice Keane - Terriers. Barry O Connell - Gun Dogs. Stacey O Dwyer - Pets. It was a bitter sweet event this year, as a true advocate of field work Noel Lambe who walked the fields and hedges each week with myself sadly passed away unexpectedly late last year. Noel was a very popular man in the Hound community and this was very evident with the huge turnout at his funeral. Noels family are well known in the area, and up to a couple of years ago had the oldest pack of Foot Beagles in the country. At our show today it was a very poignant and sad moment, tainted with a little pride as I Sean O Keeffe stood beside Noels daughter Ailish, as she presented the Noel Lambe Perpetual Cup in Noels memory, to Kevin Casey from the Galtee Foxhounds for Best Overall Hound. Noel my friend you will never be forgotten in the Hound world and may you rest in peace. The show was a great success and this is only attributable to the people who attended it. A big thank you to one and all for your support. Finally, Finally, I would like to thank all the Avondhu Hunt members involved who gave up their time and effort to help make this day a roaring success. I look forward to seeing you all again for more of the same in 2020. From the Pen Of : Sean O Keeffe

  4. Carlow Charity Dog Show and Raceday ( Stephanie O Connors Show) Sunday 7thApril 19 The River Barrow flows through the town of Carlow, and forms the historic boundary between the Counties Laois and Carlow. The settlement of Carlow is thousands of years old and played a major role in Irish history, serving as the capital of the country in the 14th century. Outside the town of Carlow is a little village with a big heart called Palatine. This was the venue for the Carlow Lurcher, Terrier, Whippet , Hound Dog Show and Race Day Sunday 7thApril 19. And what a show that was. Mrs Samsung rang her alarm at 4.30 on Sunday morning, and from then on in, our house was all stations go. Very soon we were on the road with dogs in toe, heading towards Mc Donalds in Newry to meet up with the rest of the convoy. It was very misty in the morning, but as the day went on the sun came out to play, and beamed down on us all day. We arrived at the venue around 10.00am, and by that time the field was filling up fast. The atmosphere was electric and the welcoming was as warm as the sunshine. Denise and Trevor Cahill and Jim and Christine Maher were there with their dog Leads and hunting gear stands, as well as an Ice Cream van and Chip van. As I walked around the field it was nice to meet up with some great huntsmen and women after the long cold winter. As Mr & Mrs Fox are gone off on their summer holidays, it gives our canine companions a chance of a break from their working schedule. Time flies by so quickly, and very soon it was Racing and Show Time. Here are some Results of the Showing and Racing. Childrens Handling Class The wee people were out in force in the pet ring and childrens handling class. What a turnout of our young huntsmen and women of tomorrow. One very proud little lady after winning the childrens handling class was Ava Boggan with her winning dog Angel. Congratulations Ava and well done. There were many more winners in the pet ring, to many to mention including Brooklyn Rafferty, Cormac Mc Killion, Abigal Morrissey Cleo Crosbie and Jade Dunphy. Well done to everyone, you were all winners in my eyes. Racing Results. And Finally, Finally, as the saying goes, I always save the best to last. Yes, Stephanie and Mark O Connor and your brilliant back up team, this accolade goes to you. I can honestly say for a first time show, your show was run with a very high degree of skill and professionalism. The organisation and timing was impeccable, with a very well versed team. This was backed up with a brilliant venue and top prizes both in showing/racing and raffle. I am sure you had some sleepless nights but it certainly paid off. Thank you so much for a great and memorable day and above all for your friendship. And now for the icing on the cake. Mark and Stephanie made a whopping 1951.70euros the proceeds of last Sundays show. This huge amount was handed over today by Stephanie Mark and team to Carlow Mental Health Association and will be a great help to the lives of so many people to learn about Positive Mental Health. Excellent work Stephanie and Mark , a credit to you and congratulations again on a first class, first time run show, and I am already looking forward to more of the same in 2020. Margaret Mc Stay

  13. JINGLE BELLS --- JINGLE BELLS - JINGLE ALL THE WAY. The Mid and East Antrim Christmas Dog Show Sunday 16thDecember 18. The festive season had arrived in full swing, and when it came to a little jollification and some me time, the Mid and East Antrim Christmas Dog Show was the place to be Sunday 16thDecember 18. This first time Christmas Dog Show was a great success from start to finish, and was a welcome break from the trials and tribulations of the Christmas Razzmatazz. Although it was icy cold Christmassy weather, the good men and women of the canine world, came out in strength for a day of festivities and showing, and they were not disappointed. Denver Mc Meekin was there with some very pipping hot home made Game soup, Game Stew, Sausages, Burgers and Tea. So very tasty and nobody went home hungary. As we all know Christmas is a very happy time, but it also can be a very sad and lonesome time for some people. This festive day out can help bring cheer into our lives, and put a smile back on our faces again, if only for a day. Showing commenced at approximately 12.30. Here are the Overall Results from the Show *Childrens Handling Class Lilly Thompson with Chico ***Overall Champion Puppy Adam with Rio ***Overall Champion Whippet Lisa Dumigan with Frankie ***Overall Champion Lurcher David Mc Crory with Striker ***Overall Champion Terrier Darren Crawford with Jill ***Overall Champion and Best in Show 2018*** Darren Crawford with Jill Reserve David Mc Crory with Striker ***Congratulations to both men and all above winners*** As usual the raffle brought a flurry of excitement around the ring as punter after punter won some really good prizes. And Finally, many thanks to the judges on the day. Whippets/Mark Mc Callion Lurchers/ Breandan Coleman Terriers/ John Barry Childrens Handling Class - Tracy Gill. Judging is not an easy remit at any time, but a job well done by all. None of this would be possible without the hard work and organization of Chontelle Mc Meekin and Mark Mc Callion and their back up team. Hard work and sleepless nights come into the equation here. Your show was a credit to your impeccable organisation and attention to detail, and was a resounding success. I look forward to more of the same in 2019. And Finally, Finally, may I take this opportunity on behalf of John and myself to wish all our friends in the Hunting, Lamping and Canine world in Ireland/ England/ Scotland and Wales and further afield : A very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year, and God willing we will meet up with you all again in 2019. 16. Armagh Sporting Dog Supreme Bends Racing Championships and Showing Sunday 4th November 18. Situated in the shadow of the rippling waters of Lough Neagh, lies the now famous Feabridge Racing Track at Coalisland. This haven of history was the venue for Armagh Sporting Dog Supreme Bends Racing Championships and Showing Sunday 4thNovember 18. And what a day of fun, frolics, good humour and friendship that was. The night before the show, the heavens opened and the rain lashed down all night , but as a new day dawned on Feaghbridge , there was not a drop of rain in sight and the ground was in good condition. A good turnout was expected and we certainly were not disappointed. From ten o clock onwards cars and trailers began to converge on the car park at Feaghbridge, all loaded with dogs and families in tow. It was an experience and a first for me, to watch all dogs been weighed before racing and placed to run according to their weight. I must say I was very impressed with the routine, and may be worth thinking about for future racing days. Seemed very fair to me. Some folk travelled long distances to be part of this sporting event. Gary Farmer and Geraint Kelly Woolcock travelled from England and Liam and Conor Nolan from Roscrea in County Tipperary. Before Liam went home he gave me a handful of tickets for the Raffle. This certainly put a smile on my husband Johns face. The Raffle is always the highlight of his day. Thank you Liam for your kindness. I won a nice bottle of red wine with your tickets and thank you for your generosity. Kieran Neeson from Donegal was back in action again showing and racing his dogs after his motor bike accident. Kieran is making steady progress back to health. Great to see you on the move again Kieran, and I enjoyed the catch up. The Racing commenced at approximately 12noon followed by Showing. As the shades of night started falling and the air became icy, with racing and showing over, we headed back to the club house, where James O Neill had stoked up a well lit hearth fire. Some liquid beverages were consumed along with some good conversation around the open fire. And Finally, Fiona has asked me to thank her sponsors: Ben Wagstaff and Kirsty Brunt /Joe Leonard/Charlene Martin/Susan Mc Cann/Simon Irwin and Kieran Young, for their generosity and support to her show. A special word of thanks to Claire and Darren Smith for judging, and also for their help and expertise with the very successful bends racing. And Finally, Finally, what can I say about this young lady. Yes I have left this accolade for you Fiona Devlin. Along with your partner Conor Mc Cormack you put your heart and soul into this show and raceday and pulled it off 100%. You ventured down the road of weighing for racing with meticulous planning and proved a roaring success. The feed back has been glorious in every sense of the word. Your show was a credit to you. Simply the Best. Thank you for another very enjoyable show and raceday and we look forward to more of the same in 2019. Margaret Mc Stay

  20. Mickey Quinns Charity Champion of Champions Dog Show and Race Day Sunday 19thAugust 18 Located in the lap of Orchard Country and surrounded by a patchwork of apple orchards and green fields lies the prestigious Anaghmore Race track. This was the venue for Mickey Quinns Charity Champion of Champions Dog Show and Race Day in aid of Autism Sunday 19thAugust 2018. This show was well supported from North and South of the border. From early morning dogs, trailers, children, and families began to arrive with one thing in mind, to be part of this worthy charity dog show in aid of Autism and go home with a nice trophy for winning The Champion of Champions and qualify for Shanes Castle 2019. The weather was kind to us and kept up well, with just a few spots of rain early in the day. The show got under way at approx 12.30. Here are the Overall Showing Results. Childrens Handling Class : Judge Margaret Mc Stay Well done to Brooke Rafferty, the very worthy winner of the childrens handling class. It was nice to see so many children taking part in the showing. Keep up the good work. You are the show organisers and competition winners of tomorrow, and you will keep the sport going long after we all have gone way beyond the rainbow bridge. Mickey Quinn had a beautiful shield for the winner Brooke Rafferty, and every single child in the ring also went home with a lovely trophy for taking part. Well done to all. Here are the results of the Showing : Ladies Handling Class Lisa Beggs with Joker ( Judged by : Mr Aj Titterington) Gents Handling Class Billy Kerry with Snowball ( Judged by: A lady from the Autism Society) Albert Titterington awarded everybody in the ring that took part in the ladies and Gents handling classes a free ticket for Shanes Castle 2019. There was a very poignant and sad moment at Sundays show, when the partner and brother of the late Declan Jordan, an avid whippet man, donated and presented a Shield to the Champion Whippet winner Fiona Devlin in memory of Declan who passed away as result of a motorbike accident a few months ago. Our thoughts and prayers are with his partner and family at this very sad time in their lives. Very soon it was raffle time and always guaranteed to generate a flurry of excitement around the place. Some happy campers going home from there. And Finally, what this show was all about. Autism changes the way people communicate and experience the world around them. Every autistic person is different. Some are able to learn, live and work independently but many have learning differences or co-occurring health conditions that require specialist support. Mickey Quinn from lurgan set out last Sunday, with the support of the good people of the Canine Community to raise funds to help make life a little more comfortable in some small way, by raising funds from the proceeds of his charity dog show for people suffering from Autism. And this Mickey done in big measure, along with Tom Barry, Michael Quinn junior, and a brilliant back up team, by raising £1450, and was handed over to the Autism Society on the day in full view of everybody at the show. Mickey, what an achievement, and what a substantial amount of money to raise from the large turnout at your charity show. Well done Mickey and your backup team. You all done a wonderful job honest and true. And Finally, A big thank you to the judges on the day. Your judging was impeccable and carried out with precision and fairness. With so many dogs in each class, a hard days work was carried out by all and a job well done. It was nice to see the King of the Castle himself Albertj Titterington at the show and on the judging panel on Sunday. Albert is a true sportsman and supports so many shows North and South of the border during the year. At this stage Mickey Quinn would like me to thank all the sponsors who contributed to the success of his show, you know who you are. Your sponsorship was so much appreciated. And Finally, Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank Mickey Quinn, Tom Barry and Michael Quinn junior for a great days enjoyment, and a brilliant show day. I know you and your team have been working tirelessly behind the scenes for weeks now, just to make last Sunday a successful and enjoyable day out for everyone. Without your hard work and dedication none of this would happen. It is also nice to know that Autism Society will benefit from your input and hard graft. A great day and a great show, and I am already looking forward to next years Charity Show and your Race Day. This was a truly brilliant Championship Dog Show, a great family day out, and a day to remember. Well done Mickey and team. Margaret Mc Stay LikeShow More Reactions

  23. Tully Castle Dog Show Saturday 11thAugust 18 Tully Castle lies on the hill overlooking the west shore of Lower Lough Erne, with the waters edge flapping around the perimeter of the Castle grounds. This impressive Castle is the remains of a fortified house and bawn, and is set on beautiful Tully Point. This beautiful backdrop was the venue for Tully Castle Festival and Dog Show Saturday 11thAugust 18. The weather was very kind to us all day, and as the Churchill Brass Band played in the background, this added to the atmosphere and enjoyment of the Festival. There was a nice crowd of people there, all out for a days enjoyment among family and friends. The Festival commenced at 1.00pm, and very soon the grounds of the Castle had filled up with young and old, all out enjoying the fun and frolics of this annual festival. There was Bouncy Castles for the children, and many stands for the grown ups to browse around and take some bargains home. The Dog Show began at 2.00pm. Here are the showing Results. I must not forget the lady of the day. Yes Norma Heap on the PA system. Norma, in your own very special way, you kept us all well informed of the ring classes and the winners. Thank you for that Norma, everything went without a hitch. A few very important ladies who helped in and out of the ring : Nicola Heap/Sue Hogg/Florence Corrigan and Carol Robinson. You all done a wonderful job ladies and it was a pleasure for John and Myself to work along side you all. And Finally, Finally, a special word of thanks to Scott Fallis and Wesley Scott, and your brilliant back up team. I know a lot of hard graft and sleepless nights went into organising this very successful Festival and Dog Show. Scott, Wesley, and team without your input and organisational skills, this day would not of been possible. We really enjoyed the show and the beauty of Tully Castle” and many thanks for the memories again this year. Already looking forward to next years Festival and Dog Show. Margaret Mc Stay
