  1. For what it's worth my whippet's never had so much a scrape but the lurcher tangles with barbed wire more than any living thing should. I saw the results, really nasty, with a little non help from the vet of course. That's not the only time she's done it, but it was certainly the worst. She's got scars all over ... and one spot that she's opened twice. It's like living with a rough coated onion, that's how bloody thin her skin is. Such a let down. She runs out of the woods, there's a tear. She jumps a fence, there's a scrape. Yesterday all she did was hang out in the garden and s
  2. My lurcher is a dab hand at boxing - she can knock you out with one quick belt of her paw. Bloody annoying.
  3. Can't help but wonder if I've seen that tripod before ... if not there's one around my way and the missing leg doesn't stop him at all. Nice to see, that

  5. ... wtf have I gotten myself into?!
  6. Probably not Earth - but you are a bloke. Impressed tho she may not be, I'd wager she wouldn't be at all surprised
  7. No Ducky I didn't think you were singling me out at all And I agree there are plenty on here go on like they know it all and that's the thing: anybody who keeps dogs, for any purpose, and thinks they know it all is a bit of a joke. Long as you keep dogs you'll always be learning, that's what I think. Maybe some of the kids (or adult plonkers for that matter) might learn a thing or two reading threads such as this. We can always hope, anyway
  8. I think it's brill - still laughing :11: :11: ... I hope he hasn't given you any ideas for when my birthday rolls around
  9. can you put it in the kettle Give it a try and let me know! Thats a no then and a new kettle, bag melted only joking Admit it, I bet you stood there, boil in bag rice in hand, looking thoughtfully at the kettle and wondering if maybe, just maybe .... :11:
  10. My friend's pointer bitch can unlatch the garden gate. You'd think she had opposable thumbs
  11. Think it's fair to say that we all learn as we go? We don't come out of a box all-knowing. The first time a dog gets badly injured, it can make a person feel a bit panicky. I'd say it's a good thing that the OP feels reassured. Next time - and there will certainly be a next time - the lesson learned from this one will probably stick. And anyone else reading who maybe thought a bad injury is the very end will know that's not always the case. Threads like this are a good thing if you ask me.

  13. Look at all these fellas mithering over rice  Buy the boil in the bag stuff. Simples.
  14. It was the same with my kids .... no Father's Day cards or owt. I don't know if the council had anything to do with it or if it was just the school's decision. Bit daft if you ask me. If kids don't have a Dad at home (like mine, who's Dad isn't worth the price of a single sheet of tissue), they have Grandad's etc. It's the PC brigade riding in and spoiling everything ... again. I told my kids that since I do the job of both we can celebrate Father's
  15. You might look into using some manuka honey dressings if things go a bit pear shaped. Some info http://www.manukahoney.co.uk/howtouse.html http://www.worldofnz.co.uk/index.asp?function=displayproduct&productid=28 You can just buy the honey itself and use that with sterile dressings as well - well worth having some in for first aid imo. if you do use dressings to aid the healing, be careful how often you change it - changing the dressings too often can disturb new cell growth. Once it all goes healthy and pink and starts granulating, leave it alone and let the air at it. L
  16. Barbed wire, after the vet had botched the job and all the skin died off. Twas a mess of epic proportions All healed up now tho. She's got a fair decent scar for it and the skin there is obviously thinner now than it was - which is dangerous considering how thin her skin is to begin with. It took a full 6 MONTHS for the last bit of scab to fall off But she's right as rain now. Injuries like that can make you feel all a-flutter inside, but rest assured, it'll all be ok in the end. Irresponsible owners are always to blame if you ask me - not the dog, the owner. Like this tit h
  17. That's my worst nightmare. I'd proper panic if I lost mine down a hole I struggle to dig in my garden never mind anywhere else. That's a bonny wee terrier you've got. Good on you for helping fetch the lost one out
  18. I've just been with my new pup and was given Advocate as well. He'd no fleas on him but I used it as a preventative and for the worming etc. I did it this morning and now he's itchy as all hell Is that normal, anyone else had this with their dogs?
  19. That's about the worst thing you can do Advocate or Stronghold, hibiscrub etc is the way to go. Like Mr D says, if you're not 100% confident about dosing with Ivermectin don't do it. It's dangerous stuff.
  20. None here either - could've had my washing all done, well pisses me off
  21. Mine itched - the worst one was the running dog on my wrist - the smallest I've got, and the itchiest! I've got a longish one between my shoulder blade and my spine and believe you me that was a bugger when it started itching, since I couldn't reach it. Keep slapping on the Bepanthen, it'll go away soon enough So they itched because of the hairs growing back on your wrist and back, Yes it's much better when I keep it plaited, else it gets mucky when my knuckles drag in the dirt
