I've noticed people going mad this year for spar and alot of people breeding them .lll not be starting mine until January time to give her a real good moult to fix all damage feathers.

  5. Well after four breeders later I've finally got myself a male goshawk he's only 44days old brancher and sitting at 1lb 12 1/4 oz.

Good luck with him keep us posted on his progress. The brancher is something that I fancy doing in the future. There is a bloke in Ireland that flies a male that he reared from a brancher he does very well with him. He's apparently a very well mannered hawk.

    Keep me posted![/quot

This is the first time I've went branch as I'm used to pr birds .as these bird are meant to be more steady bird and can act like a imp birds without the noise part.

This is true Sean although I do know of one that turned out very noisy and unbearable. But that was due to the owner dithering about and not getting it out killing soon enough. I would get it killing as soon as its hard penned. This will be an interesting thread on its progress, looking fwd to it!

Yes mate you could be right on that as I've said its my first branch as I can't really answer it if it will be noisy as lll wait only know myself when I start him .

YEAH there a few people these days are doing branch as the act like a imprint /parent reared.

  8. Can somebody tell us idiots what a brancher is an how its different from other ones?

A 'brancher' is quite literally the time a hawk is likely to venture out of the nest onto the branchers.......Maybe 5-6 weeks roughly for a goshawk.

Traditionally we wait longer to pick up a parent reared Goshawk, 8-10 weeks, which is after hard penning (all the blood leaving the new feathers), unless of course the bird is to be imprinted.

....but it's not set in stone & some have experimented with the 'brancher' stage, a bit too early to start training straight away, but normally out of the imprint stage, a few weeks of socialising before the serious stuff start.....

    That's the best I can do mate[/quot

That's it's all in one mate but lll not start training him until a few more weeks as he's tail isn't fully grown yet or either wings .as these done right act like a fully imprint bird with the noise .

  9. looking forward to reading all your progress reports.

that female spar looks a fair size .. keep us posted please.[/quot

She meant to fly at 9oz as lll not bring her out until January time as she needs a good moult and replace all the damage feathers she had went I got her.so in the last few weeks I've finally let her free loft and settling well has dropped six wing feathers so far and hope to get a new tail has she needs it.
