Must be a gutter for anyone loosing good permission around you for a number of reasons though I would think with the present laws that will become even harsher when Labour get in power especially if landowners can be dragged through the courts and prosecuted for letting someone run a few hare's on their land and I get were the lad's coming from who started the thread I know it's the last thing I would want in today's climate my name plastering all over the Internet and social media for running dogs and a bit of poaching were in the past some of my convictions for trespassing in pursuit never made the local rags in court reports.

I’m too long in the tooth for any more bird mate , nor do I want padding up with the youth of today 😂

mad far as anyone’s concerned I’m a respectable business man and I need a conviction like a hole in the head for the sake of a few rabbits or a hare

One thing I will say, the lads driving fields and posting on Facebook (whatever anyone thinks of it) DID NOT f**k up hunting, Blair, Banks and a million quid did that.

As the OP proves it’s a bridge too far now for many lads to hunt lurchers, it’s the lads who are out saying “f**k the old bill” and chucking big machines of dogs out of car windows who will keep honest working lurchers alive……no tidy clean, mortgage and job and family to support lad is going to be doing that any more.

As far as I’m concerned the lads out not giving a shit are only giving a “f**k you” back to the powers that be and good for them I say.

Not gonna argue with you mate but cruising the fields churning up mud and throwing a jukel out the window ain’t Lurcher work to me

Well, I’ve had a long hard think before replying to this thread, but here goes !

I don’t want to upset or argue with anyone, but if lurcher work has been your lifetime sport, I don’t think losing a bit of permission is reason enough to give up the game.

I may be wrong, but if you have “ Poacher” in your user name, isn’t it a bit ironic that you are giving up because you’ve lost your permission ?

How about travelling if it’s to hot in your area ?

How about meeting other people who have permission; I’ve met plenty off here and other sites that didn’t mind me tagging along.

I could be wrong, but I’m sure there’s other reasons you are thinking of giving up the lurcher game other than losing your permission.

If the lurcher game is important enough in your life, you’ll find a way to keep going.

As I say, I don’t want arguments and I’m not having a go at you, and I hope you are happy with whatever you decide.

    Cheers.

I’ll try and answer this best I can so you get my reasoning and mind set at the minute .

I have a job which a tug and possible conviction if I’m caught could cause problems for me , a lot of my customer base are local farmer/landowners and I doubt they’d take kindly to me having been caught on a neighbors land . I have a family to keep and where when I was younger I wouldn’t have given a toss now I have to .

I’m extremely time poor meaning I can literally get some time out a couple of times a week and a local permission was ideal for me , it meant I could be on the ground in twenty mins from my house and have a enjoyable few hours sport .

im pretty much a loner by nature I have few friends and I naturally rub people up the wrong way ( that’s what few friends I have have told me ) so I don’t really mix with anyone else who’s into dogs like I am .

if you met me you’d probably think I don’t take the Lurcher job seriously, im probably not a serious hunter like most on here im a moocher and hedge backer haha m

no argument from me mate I respect your opinion and get what your asking

Only times I’ve been done is in Lincoln

It’s hot here mate what with the fens so close etc

I got stopped once walking on a footpath to a permission for some ferreting  with my box on my back and nets and the Lurcher in tow.
someone had seen me from road and rang the police rural hotline and said they thought I was hare coursing 😂

coppers said they have to take everything seriously these days , I said there taking the piss , dog was under control and I wasn’t breaking the law could give details of where I was going and farmers number but I refused to give mine

    proper shirty b*****ds round here

  5. Lurcher works pretty much done in Lincolnshire I think

Very few rabbits , what is there is lamped to death and the rifle boys mop them up

same with foxes there shot on mercilessly probably worse now with the rise of thermal

you couldn’t get a decent run in round me because everyone’s on hotline to lincs police , but it’s the dog lads own fault cruising the fields in 4x4 then posting for all and sundry on social media

  6. My permissions been sold to a syndicate and they don’t want anyone else on the ground so that’s over 1000 acres of  permission I had gone , permission round my way is like gold dust and usually there’s always someone on it and it’s not shared …. Too hot round here now for running anything at night or a bit of hedgerow lamping from the car , Lincolnshire police are all over you if out at night looking for a shine .

got a few permission left for ferreting but strictly no dogs , think I’m about done with the job lads

getting harder and harder to get enjoy this game now and I don’t envy young lads or lasses trying to break through now

Your grew looks a nice strong bitch, I like the “whizz bangers”, far more exciting seeing a dog take a hare quickly than being dragged around a field for ten minutes !

The man talks a lot of sense , I love a do or die running machine .
I’ll probably get roasted for this but I’m not overly fussed on too much brain power , I like a point and shoot hound on the lamp

    Both sadly long gone.

    Cheers.

    They look two handy jukels

not a common cross in my part of the midlands (Lincolnshire) mainly collie cross or Saluki and more recently bull crosses .

never seen one run or worked in the flesh so to speak but from what others have put I’d have one but it looks like there hard to find now

There’s not many out there that’ll gift pups, when there’s a litter on the ground it’s amazing how quickly greed can get the better of people. Unless you’ve seen parents run you really don’t know what you’re getting so I think £500 is more than enough to spend on such a gamble

I’ll agree with that , have bought blind a couple of times and got lucky though

Where's the other egg ?, and beans ?, and hash browns ? , and mushrooms? , and fried bread ?.😁

Mate where am I gonna fit it with n the plate 😂

3 bacon 2 sausage tomato and 2 black pudding one egg and toast is surely enough

  11. I’m not shy of spending if it’s worth it , I’ve had some given to me and I’ve paid upwards of £700 once  to get something I thought was a bit special (it wasn’t)

but Jesus, who the hells buying these ?

Quite possibly,it would make sense.........in any area of life jealousy is a horrible trait.

She did indeed have a horrible jealous streak , not me I’m not that type of man and like to think I’m pretty secure in that way

she also cheated , was envious of anyone else who was doing better and had more about them and tried to drive a wedge through me and my family .

hindsight’s a wonderful thing and I question what I was thinking but everything happen for a reason I suppose

  13. Was with a  head case of a woman for two years stunning to look at and I think in retrospect that’s what made me ignore the warning signs……. Paranoid, jealous , borderline alcoholic, aggressive and violent all wrapped up in a dainty 5 foot 2 size 6 woman who on one memorable occasion when we’d been on a night out decided to stab me and put a lit fag in my eye ……. That was from me thanking the waitress for handing me a drink 🤔

Ive bought a couple off chaps on here over the years but just cannot master it....years ago i feel like i would have had the determination and persistence to become better but now i just wonder if its an age thing, practise as i have i just cant seem to get any better.......seeing the picture of the youngster above puts it into perspective for me id need a catch box about 3 times that size ......keep saying i'll give it another go as i hate admitting defeat !

Quick update and more success today I’ve set a catch box up in the garden so as I go out to the dogs or freezer or the bins I grab the catty and have ten shots , today seems a bit of a revelation as I’ve probably hit the spinner 7/8 times each time at ten meters !!

gnasher maybe have a try at what I’m doing 5 or 10 shots a time at the catch box ?

that way if you have a shit say 5 shots your not chasing accuracy and you can do better next time .

  15. Was looking back at some old pics earlier and reminded me what started it all for me ….. my old man had had coursing dogs but given up in the early 90,s
Remember my late uncle pulling up one Sunday morning in his old Peugeot estate with a Saluki cross in the back and him telling my mam he was going coursing , I wasn’t even interested in tagging along and my mam sent me with him , I think I would have been about 12 .

I’ll always remember that first run I witnessed as he slipped that little bitch and watched it turn the hare then nail it !! I was sold on running dogs after that and have always returned to owning one although it’s just little lamping dogs now .

what sold you on running dogs ?
