  1. Iksopener, I have had one of Matt blanks. Very nice it was too.
  2. I can never seem to get anything as sharp as a I can my old opinel. Is this to be expected?
  3. I know price is no guarantee of quality, my blade was £35 I think. That was insightful Midnight. Sounds like jolly hard work! It all adds up so quickly, oak block was 15 plus postage, pins, abrasives, Polish, leather, leatherworking tools etc etc. But, such a knife to buy would be over 200. Just as well we enjoy it.
  4. Thanks Midnight, I bought the blade from Germany. Are you saying the blade I bought is poor quality or the billet gruffalo speaks of? I would love to make the blades but currently have nothing more than am angle grinder and a couple of welders to do so. I take no offence by your post and am always keen to be educated.
  5. Meant to say earlier. Many thanks to Unlacedgecko who completely reworked my C.V. and asked for nothing in return. A true gent. Thank-you muchly Sir.
  6. Thanks guys. I bought the blade ready made. Can't make them yet. The Oak I bought as a lump and spent bloody ages on it. Hard stuff that! Scales would have been a smarter choice.
  7. Thanks all, I haven't sold any but would do if you knew what you wanted. I made up one of Midnights blanks recently, lovely thing. Bog oak is a slow b*****d to work! How best to polish it? I have beeswax and boiled linseed oil. Any tips?
  8. Good ideas thanks guys. I am based just south of Stroud. Near Dursley. I am not unfamiliar with being under 4 X 4 ' s.
  9. Agreed, I do need to retrain. I can fix most things, build many things. But where and how to retrain?
  10. Thanks all, I am familiar with cjs, the competition in that sector is awful however. Far too many volunteers etc! I did a degree in Wildlife management. Fascinating, however I wish I had chosen more wisely regarding job prospects.
  11. Thanks for the well wishes. I am willing to try anything.
  12. I am 35 mate. Will PM you shortly.
  13. Evening all, I was made redundant at Christmas and am struggling to find work. I am applying for everything from bin man up. Very slow going! I am experienced in most countryside jobs, does anyone know of anything in the Gloucestershire area please? Or anywhere really,I am willing to move. Thanks all.
  14. Mine leak after only a couple of years, perhaps 3 ish. My old chameaus lasted 15 years. Too soft though. My brewing puroforts are ace.
  15. Should be invited to "step into the shower".
  16. Same for me, claimed he had already sent one. However, I did eventually get it and it was very good.
  17. What possesses these idiots to commit such abuse as seen on the news recently? Many/most of us take the lives of animals, some no doubt farm. I would hope none would behave like those clowns caught on camera. A real shame that slaughter has been removed from those that care for the animals in the first place. They should be the ones hanging from the rotating hooks, twitching.
  18. Beautiful work, would fetch a high price in the BDSM world!
  19. They are lovely! No profile cutter then, just by eye with a belt grinder? Impressive work.
  20. I may well have been a bit vague with the Araldite mix, thanks!
  21. Thanks Gaffer, appreciate it. I did it from scratch mate, stitched the buckle on wrong way round first though, doh!
