  1. Another night, another outing again at the shoot. Not as overcast so was much lighter than Tuesday night so not ideal to park a silver hilux in the middle of a field, so I decided to get up on a bale stack the next field up from where I shot the three on Tuesday. Perfect 360 vision although one of the farm workers was on the field behind me with the scuffle on the back so not ideal but, just after 10:00 a 3/4 grown dog fox wasn’t perturbed by the noise and wondered across the freshly baled field in front of me looking for anything which had fallen victim to the combine. I must of watched him f
  2. Exactly right you get out what you put in! I only do the keeping part time, but I'm up there every day this time of year and this will be my third season and the last two have been great. Most importantly the shoot owners are very happy with how things are going. They pay me for my time feeding birds pen work and dogging in etc to go towards my fuel as I live 25 mins away from the shoot but , I get all the pest control, fishing and deer stalking I could possibly want for!
  3. Some great shooting, photos and write ups there mate, always interesting to see how its done in different countries!
  4. Seen some bucks following does about so going to have a look tomorrow evening, fingers crossed. Won't be able to get on them properly till all fields are cut though.
  5. They are only half way through the wheat at the shoot at the moment and it's all wheat at therevthis year so I'm chomping at the bit to get on the rest of it! Yes the drone is great but the thermal is the bo!!ocks! Like you say even if you don't get the shot you know where they are or where they are coming from/ going to.
  6. Yer you’ve got to keep on them. I’ve had 16 here on the shoot since January. It’s only on 500 acres but got to keep hitting them! The drone is fantastic! Makes such a difference having that clarity out at 200yds plus and you can see way further than you can shoot!
  7. Got up the shoot at 8:00 had a quick check of the zero which was still bang on, 1” high at 100 yds. Got to the spot where I wanted to be alongside a cover crop where I’d seen a fox two nights before but the wind was completely wrong so I changed my plan and drove two field on where I know there is always a fox lurking. There are a set of tramlines which run right down the middle of the field which I always park up on and it was ideal as the wind was coming right into my face. What wasn’t ideal though was that there was a fox already out in the field which clocked me before I clocked it and wen
  8. Alright mate, I’ve had this rifle for a while now. It’s my remmy 700 vssf .22-250 yer it’s satisfying getting them once you have put in the time doing a bit of recon.
  9. Yer the dog will soon hopefully be having a peaceful night! I couldn’t believe how close this fox was walking near the dog, it was not bothered at all. The dog was on the end of its chain going bezerk and the fox was just mooching past it literally a 2-3 yards from the end of the chain.
  10. Hahaha! I know what you mean! When you know they aren’t going anywhere though it is interesting to watch them. One night I was watching a dog and a vixen following each other around and he was so subservient to her swishing his tail it was really interesting two watch.
  11. Yes it is. The lady txt me this morning though saying her dog started barking at 2:30 so there must be at least one other taking the same path. My guess it’s from the same litter as the one I shot, so I’ll be having another look out tomorrow night.
  12. Hi S.L. Yer it’s a drone 10x and I have a pulsar xq50f thermal. Deadly combination. Makes life so much easier when the foxes have no idea you are there and is fascinating to watch them acting naturally.
  13. Had a call the other day asking if I could take care of some problem foxes which neighbour our shoot. The lady keeps her guard dog chained up at night outside and the cheeky fox walks right past the dog just far away enough so the dog can’t reach it! Got set up at 9:30 and within 15 dog starts barking and there is the fox strolling right past it. I let it walk past the dog and having to shoot through stock fencing wasn’t ideal but the 55gr Winchester bullet hit home. Having a scan around with the thermal I saw another around 500 yards away strolling towards me so I kept an eye on it unti
  14. All the above is great advice, basic training drummed into spaniels before attempting anything with live quarry especially stop, stay and recall commands. I start all my dogs of that is cocker, lurchers and terriers in with my chickens and ducks, get them to walk through them to heel then sit stay and then recall them to me from a distance so they have to run through them so they get used to things flapping about in a controlled environment then when it happens out it is not new to them or seen as a game to chase.
  15. Same here in South Northamptonshire, haven’t had rain for well over a month now and looking at the forecast we’re not getting any this week either! We desperately need some for the covers as well!
  16. My mate swears by his! He got 52 eggs out of just two of his last year. Even the local parish council where he lives have asked if he’ll put one on the village pond for them!
  17. I’m going to be putting these on scaffold poles driven into the ponds with the leg you can see in picture slotted into the top of the scaffold pole. So they are elevated out of the water but most importantly up and out the way from predation and I will be able to see from the bank if they are being used.
  18. Cheers! Got a S&B 8X56 on top, very pleased with it. Very accurate rifle I’ve found as well. Three shots nearly in the same hole at 100 yards with factory ammo.
  19. First outing on the bucks with my new X Bolt .243 125 yard shot from the high seat, heart long shot dropped on the spot! Well cheffed is an understatement!
  20. The first of new the duck tubes I’ve made up. My mate has them on his shoot and has had Fantastic results so I’m going to give them a try on ours. Just need to sort some lengths of scaffolding now to sit them on in the water and they’ll be up and running! I’ll get some pictures up when they are in position.
  21. It is amazing what you see, especially with a thermal. Its great to see animals behaving naturally without them knowing you are there. I know what you mean about the unsporting part but when keepering a shoot the only good fox is a dead one...
  22. I also got sent this from a keeper who’s shoot is local to ours whos camera trap got a photo of this weirdo in woman’s boots and suspenders walking through one of his woods!! Haha!!!
  23. It’s only a screen shot so not great quality but it is a video recording of a fox from last year cocking it’s leg infront of my camera! Talk about taking the p!ss
  24. Just got in from a short evening out, just drying the scope and rifle off as there was a bit of drizzle coming down so here’s a closer pic of the scope for you. Only had this IR, scope and rifle combination together for a couple of months, I absolutely love it! And it’s just dropped it’s 12th Charlie. The scopes a drone x10 and a P.B. IR.
  25. Hahaha! That’s exactly the sort of thing my dad would say! In his eyes every O/U is a clay gun! He always shakes the hand of people on shoot days who still shoot S/S which is becoming a rarity, and he can’t bare to look at my synthetic franchi affinity!
