got it in one mate my old dhxgh x colliexgh died whilst out working with my bro shit happens and there aint alot we can do about it they are running in the dark at full speed with just a lamp on there is all ways going to be things happening of this nature its part of the dog game sad part of the dog game
Will do pal, just been bogged down with work lately but yeah will definitely be out soon as next windy night.
we will sort a night out shortly mate and i will take him with 3 legs and show ya him work i have never bred a dog this will be my 1st so why all this bollox with my dog with 3 legs is crackers lol if its windy this week we will be out
Yes but before it lost its leg it was doing the job, very well I can vouch for gaffer and he wouldn't just breed any old sh#t. The fact that he is keeping a dog for himself says it all to me.Why the f**k would anyone want a pup off a three legged lurcher nl? Theres hundreds of dogs bred weekly so why breed from something not upto to the job physically?
All gafers dogs get out regularly and see graft, not left sitting in kennels used as breeding machines.
They are obviously people who have never owned a working dog and know that GOOD working dogs get injured and even killed while out working. Just because it's lost a leg doesnt take away the fact that it was good at its job.
Bad news that pal, but died doing what it loved. Rip

Do any of you lads/lassies use this lamp? If so, how do you rate it and would it be as good as the light force. I have been using the light force 140 for a few years now and for next season i want to buy a 170 variable. The deben make is a bit cheaper and every pound is a prisoner, so if anyone has any experience using the deben please share. Thanks......john.
Good lamps but the variable on burnt up while out using. Rewired mine to just full power never used the variable on it to be honest but the beam is perfect for lamping with lurchers

Do you get these in diesel? Good luck with sale
Not in this shape the newer models are diesel but you talking silly money just for a practical dog bus. I think that was there down fall one of these in a diesel would 've the ultimate awd estate and excellent family car.
Great price that though.

Hare coursing = testing the hound and beast were the beast survives a lot of the time.
Driven hare shoot = slaughter, massacre of a graceful beast
Absolutely disgraceful.

Jill ferrets finished working a warren and refusing to come out, they come to the burrow entrance and then when you go to pick them up they back in. getting really frustrating and having to use a rabbit to get them out.
Wasting too much time on a days ferreting just trying to get them out the warren, any ideas how to sort it?
Thanks in advance
I have had this problem before and it can be cured, how I got over the problem is spending time in the garden with them putting them in tubes and letting them run through but dont jump at them straight away give them time to come out a pick them up steadily don't just pull them up, do this several times a day also call them so they know it's you and they will get better with it they need to trust you. Once you have done this several times then they will let you pick them straight from the hole just call before you pick them up as not to startle them.
This is the method I used and it worked best to do from kits though.

What kind of lurcher would hold its own working through woodland type ground, up and down fairly steapish hillsides , the ground is a few places is quite boggy. Went up this morning and put up 4 fallow does to the rifle, If I had clipped one the dog would need to be able to follow up and possibly pull the animal (perfectly legal to follow up a wounded animal) and also need to be able to go out ferreting / mooching and lamping on sand dunes and also fairly open pasture fields.
Is there a cross that could do all that ? Or am I expecting too much ?
I have been interested in a beddy x grey , or a collie x grey or combinations of those types.
Would be first time lurcher owner but have trained lab and springer for hunting
I think you are expecting a lot there but I suppose it could be done. If I was wanting a dog to do all I think my choice would be a collie greyhound, just because they are easily trained and willing to please.
That's just my thoughts and believe me I am no expert but trying to learn

All right everyone.
Just want your views on the suzuki jimny as a lamping wagon, have heard good things about them but not as lamping wagons do any of you lads use them. If so do you use the hardtop or soft top on your lamping escapes? Reason I ask is I am looking for a good lamping wagon.
I know the defender is the best choice but too expensive.

A crap 4x4??? This a joke?Defender is a crap 4x4. It needs money threw at it to be good off road, even more money threw at it to be COMFORTABLE on road. Then there is extra maintenance and RUST
Set of tyres like any jeep needs and you'll not get better.
As for comfort I agree.
Got to agree the defender is the best with a set of good tyres they wernt made for comfort but put a heavy duty clutch, set of bf Goodrich, winch, snorkel, bash plate and they will take you anywhere. But they aren't cheap.
Heard good things about the jimny though.

Pet carriers are as good as anything just let them out every now and then . But if they been worked they shouldget enough stimulation

Oh from what I hear the lad was bored because he hadnt seen anything and then a terrier appeared and the bog being about a mile from any house he considered shooting the dog fair game.
Bad news that pal, don't know how you kept calm if that was me I would of dragged him around the bog by his head and showed him what fair game is.He shouldn't be shooting if he can't tell the difference or if he thinks a terrier is fair game.

Just for grins my lurcher drawing a jackrabbit!
Cracking looking lurcher.

I have a saluki whippet greyhound and his concentration while ferreting is excellent.
Can't comment on collie x never owned one but have seen them work and the level of obedience that can be taught is unreal.

None of my jills are in season but my hobs balls have started showing and he has had hold of one of my jills. I thinks it's down to the slightly warm weather as mine are kept outside so no artificial lighting etc
