  1. The problem is that as hunters / shooters we enjoy our sport . If pest control had to be carried out by paid clock watchers with miserable looks on their faces who hated every minute of being outside in nature then there wouldn’t be an issue. It’s the act of taking the life of a wild creature that they cannot and will never understand. We are simply wired up differently, they are wired up wrong and we are wired up correctly. Simple as that .
  2. You’ll piss it . If you can’t make a go of it in that game there is something wrong. Building/ maintenance is going strong at the moment, so long as this government/ media don’t talk us into another recession .

It’s a joke ... you’re supposed to say louder , then I shout Nikki who ? It was a popular joke when I was at school. Bloody hell mate , I thought you would have been on to that , it’s as old as the hills . Must be early. ???
  4. I’ve looked at the wedding photo and I would say that it’s probably his sister and he’s giving her away or something. There is no way a guy like him has even kissed a girl , let alone married one . He’s got nerd / virgin stamped all over him .
  5. Good luck pal , been self employed for the last 20 years , I haven’t looked back . You are now the master of your own destiny .
  6. I’ve seen one brood of pheasant chicks , and then every day there were less and less . A combination of poor parenting and predation from those lovely black things Mr Packem is so fond of has seen them disappear. Modern rearing in sheds means that the parents haven’t been imprinted with the necessary parenting skills needed to raise a successful brood . I reckon french partridge are worse parents than pheasant too watched their broods get abandoned to their fate too often as well . For a wild bird shoot , I think your initial stock would be best reared under broody hens .
  7. Same as mate , but I also liked the Clash , I even bought and wore a red brigade T shirt at one of their gigs , it was red and said Brigade Rossa , wouldn’t be seen dead in it now and to be honest I didn’t really know what it meant at the time . I don’t know about you but I can’t listen to all that stuff anymore, it was of it’s time , I will go to the odd gig and it’s a bit of nostalgia, but I don’t play it at home or in the car . I’m ashamed to say I prefer listening to Kasabien and the foo fighters . ?
  8. I’ve never seen him , but he obviously knows what tastes good . My grandad used to love young rabbits done like that , I used to pop them off with an air rifle (BSA meteor) and proudly take them to him to cook . He used bacon fat which he kept ( he topped up a pot when he drained the fat off bacon he cooked) I’m amazed he lived as long as he did , because he wasn’t the most hygienic man and usually had a woodbine dripping ash in the pan as well . But I don’t know if it’s me being silly , but they tasted far better than the ones I’ve done for myself. RIP old Bill
  9. The specials played a gig in my neck of the woods in the late 70’s at Witcombe lodge . They bought a coach load of Coventry skins with them who were giving it “ the biggun “ . There coach got trashed and there was a riot outside . Aaah ...them were the days . I think the lodge lost its music license after that , and not long after it shut . Pity because there were some good groups playing the venue.
  10. I love eating young rabbits. Back legs and saddle, dipped in seasoned flour and shallow fried . My mouth is watering now .
  11. There is a place where I have a go at “squeaking/calling “, it overlooks a large bowl of land and offers a great vantage point with a rifle . The problem I have had in the past is foxes creeping along the hedge and wall and just appearing about 5 meters in front of me , they have a quick look and then they are off . An easy shot with a shotgun . So when I go there now , I take the shotgun and rifle and keep the shotgun ready while I’m calling..... guess what ? They haven’t done it since, but they will .
  12. If it was easy and predictable you wouldn’t want to do it . Because foxes can be unpredictable and are clever they make a fascinating creature to hunt . I noticed the title to the thread and I’m having a cup of tea out of my new mug my Mrs got me , an appropriate drinking vessel for people such as us !
  13. I met him and Clarissa at a game fair years ago , stopped and had a natter . I couldn’t help but feel that they were a bit miffed that I didn’t buy their book that they were signing and selling.
  14. The post was which over and under ? He has now been convinced to get a side by side . Maybe it would do for walking up , because they are light and tend to handle quickly. I am I think an experienced shot , trying to offer good advice , and pointing out some pitfalls that I see in purchasing a side by side . These are only my opinions . I think my opinion is as valid as anyone else’s . I’ve got nothing against side by sides . They shoot well .....You asked do they work ? From what I’ve seen, they work well enough on average driven birds . But when you get into high bird shooting, and I’m talk
  15. I get the whole love affair with a nice sidelock or box lock . The tradition and nostalgia. And I applaud people that still take them out . In fact on the driven shoots I load on they are more common than an O/U . But you won’t convince me that they shoot better than an O/U . How many S/s have you seen at the olympics or in any top level clay competition. The answer is none .
  16. A double clutch wasn’t difficult either , but times have moved on . And I would ask any shooter who has swapped over from a single trigger to a double , who has fired the first shot and not made the mistake of squeezing that trigger again . And I know from having done it that the harder you squeeze won’t help you . ??
  17. I don’t want to be one of those guys who gets into a debate on what shotguns are best ..... but I guess I’m one of those guys !!! There is a good reason that you won’t see a side by side in a clay competition ( unless it’s a SBS competition) because the O&U shoots better and has a better plane of vision for which to shoot a moving target . There is also a good reason why manufacturers don’t make double triggers anymore, because shooters prefer a single trigger. The thing is any old banger will get you from A to B but most of us choose the car that best suits our needs and our pocket , an
  18. In the price range you are talking about you will struggle to find an AYA SXS with a single trigger but if you don’t mind a double trigger then fair play . They take a bit of getting used to and aren’t my cup of tea . Having said that my first gun was an AYA yeoman and it was a well made gun .
  19. Oh no , now I’ve got this mental image .... Michaela Strachan has just walked in with a strapon . ?
  20. Exactly.. he’s probably double teaming his pet badger ? with Brian May that day .
  21. For walk up shooting I can recommend a Beretta ultralight. If you can get one secondhand, you could pick one up for around the £600 mark if it’s seen a bit of use . In fact any Beretta 686 will be a gun for life , their barrels are chrome lined and they are a well made gun that can stand a bit of neglect. I used to do a lot of walk up rough shooting over my spaniels , I had an ultralight and I could walk for miles with that slung over my arm . I liked it so much that I had a kickeeze pad fitted so it could handle heavy shooting from a pigeon hide and not knock me about too much . I’m a fan of

Just watched his Ray Charles, where he puts black tights on his head . I was brought up on a diet of that kind of humour and entertainment. You had the black and white minstrels , love thy neighbour, and the comedians like Bernard Manning, all on mainstream TV . We had a few black kids in our school and we pulled their legs a bit , one was called Sammy , I didn’t realise till much later that his name wasn’t Sammy and that it was short for Sambo . Thing is they gave as good as they got , they had to I suppose . I think it’s called “ inter grating “ , something we did naturally, and without left
  23. One of the best rants I heard was (Ted Nugent on Vegans ) if I knew how to put the link up I would do it , type it in on YouTube he is on the Joe Rogan podcast and it is excellent!!
  24. One of the reasons I didn’t check that side is , when there was a litter there last I had dog walkers , horse riders , and farm workers all telling me , “ you know there is a litter of fox cubs in that hedge “.And to be honest I wasn’t that bothered about doing them in until the mother took a signet off the lake then the boss issued a fatwa . Hopefully it should be easy enough to deal with them . I’ve got some rabbit traps that I bait with pigeon, works well on hungry inquisitive cubs , I will also wait out to see if there is another fox helper to feed them .
