I was reading this book about hunting before guns and when it came to sighounds one way they did was to set up over a food source or a watering hole and let the hounds loose as the game came in as anyone heard of this or did it and how well would it work

I once read a book similar to yours, bout a Welsh bloke who lamped a whole load of foxes as they came to feed on a farm midden pile. Nailed 3 or 4 most night's, so the book said. In the snow too. The action must have been fast and furious as he was rarely photographed wearing a coat. Though it must have been cold, them foxes looked stiff as boards. All done with a 'ol mottled marked cur cross. If I could just remember that books title.... :hmm

:In some of the pics he had slip on shoes on........lol

  2. I could just put that one of Ronnie's ears up again they are the spit of each other. I'll get some up over Christmas. She's doing well, very testing on my patience, never had a coursing bred dog before, feels like having my first dog again, learning as I go. If it could shrug its shoulders it would! I am suppressing my overwhelming urge to rip one of its legs of and beat it to death with the soggy end as I know the bitches potential......

    I know the feeling bud......lol
  3. My mate bought Smash off Kev Giro..I went out with it with Kev never got a lot, 7 hares and a Roe but when my mate had it I seen it catch 21 hares with its sister that I owned..it got killed down the Lakes whilst running a Red Deer it broke its neck when hitting the bank of a small stream..instantly killed..big fine blue dog he was..I have a pic of him but its poor lol..I can't recall the name of the red dog Kevin had at the time bred out of Minshaw stuff? It'll come back to me maybe haha was a lovely looking dog not unlike Soz of the big fellas

nice set up jai, and pup coming well.Just had another look at the pic, carnt see why you want to put roof on the top of the panels, if that what you mean by roof.? as thats the only place thats not got a top on it from pics.Ive got simlar b/b kennels with run, but left mine open no top, as the panels are about 6ft same as me, so you would have to build up on top of panel to rase them just to get in, and your taller than me, easier to walk straight in if this makes sence lol. the back looks a good idea nice+easy to clean, mine blocked off so have to get on feckin hands+knees to get in to clean them, good idea that at the back

Ray you can get roofing struts that slot into the run panels and are adjustable for the pitch, i agree with skycat that runs are best roofed. I also put strips of clear plastic over pop holes to help prevent drafts/wind

Jim, i agree with what you say and my mutts are in the house mostly

And nice set up jai :victory: Atb

That's a nice set up too: but ours have chewed the plastic strips off  All bar a couple sleep in the house at night, and they have carpet over the pop holes in the winter, but they are not in kennels full time.

Like the chicken wire inside the bars: pups are terrible for getting their heads stuck in the bars aren't they!

I had a nearly nine hour round trip to pick my pup up, finally got home to find my seven week old nightmare could fit through the bars in the run. So had to spend the next few hours last thing at night phoning round to borrow some chicken wire and cable ties  Pups can be hard work LOL

  10. Unless there was sommat I needed and I couldn't get it on line or anywhere else, i'd never go to the Midland again... IMO, though the dog folk made up the numbers for years and years and were the bread and butter of the event, they (as have the other big shows) pushed us well and truly into the shadows. From a country point of view, unless you've a double barreled surname and are dressed in Harris tweeds they ain't marketing it for you BUT your money will do nicely if your fool enough to go....

And proof... Well read back on Zig Zag Dan's post... ;)

Best post on this thread that
