  1. Hopefully he put it in his pocket Byron and took it home. If he didn't the fecker wants lessons in countryside etiquette. I've never seen that myself, someone knocking a can back while actually out shooting. It's almost as bad as drink driving, what with the dangers of having a loaded gun etc.

  2. The book's called "In The Steps Of Mighty Men" featuring the Coniston Foxhounds from 1825-1925 and will be out in the summer. You can order it from here; Neil Salisbury, Betty Fold Gallery, Hawkshead Hill, Ambleside, LA22 0PS. Cost is £25.00 plus £4.95 p&p. State clearly what name you would like inserted in the book. Last orders for name inclusion will be late february. I've posted something on smoochers about it too.

  3. LL, did you give it a good drying out? By that I mean you should have got hold of one end and, with a whipping motion, took all the excess water off. Then it should have come up all "fluffy" for want of a better word. That's the time to hang it. You could have left a bit of the bones lining in, and if you have, that will cause it to go stiff. Should be ok though.

  4. I work for a Utility Company and like Waz has mentioned, I did the basic training first, up to using a chainsaw with a 15" bar. I've progressed now, up the tree as they say, and get asked now and then to do the odd favour. I don't do that much these days but it's nice to have the relevant ticket. Great job but hard work. The main thing is to be safe and wear all the kit. And the assessment's not easy either.

  5. Buster I have a little book here called "Studies In The Art Of Rat Catching" by H. C. Barkley, 1896. Although it's dated, it still remains a very entertaining read. It doesn't describe the typical victorian style of ratting, it's more a synopsis of the sport by an educated gentleman. Marchington, in his superb "Pugs And Drummers", 1978, offers more on Barkley and his little book. It's hard to find in it's original state, but worth the trouble. A minor classic.

  6. Jasper, sometimes those fleeces are "inter-active" with an outer coat. In other words they zip inside a certain style of coat. I wonder if that can effect the fleeces "feel and fit". If you think about it, a size large outer coat, without the fleece will feel looser, if you get my drift :icon_eek: , than it would if a fleece was zipped into it! Not everyone wears the two at the same time hence the inter-active bit. A little confusing to explain I know.... :hmm:

  7. There's a report in the Mail today about an egger from Coventry getting six months! The RSPB are on a roll with this kind of thing. :censored:

It seems that the wildlife are better thought of than we humans! They have far stricter protection that's enforced.

  8. I take mine these days if a lurcher's not available when we lamp with the gun, for finding wounded stuff. He stays in the van though until needed. Otherwise like Simo said, watch out for them disappearing down after pigs or even foxes, which won't be fun in the dark!

  9. My mate got bought a puppy from the place in Manchester at christmas...in good faith and with good intentions by his daughter, but he doesn't want it and they won't except it back! A Lahso Apso dog puppy, it's a bonny thing but not wanted unfortunately, and it cost a pretty penny too.

  10. Ronnie, in really good nick, without any damage or marks on the outer boards, I've seen them go for £50 or more, normally though about £35-£40 with some wear-minor damage. If you have one with a dust jacket on, you can put another £25-£30 on top of that. I've never seen one with a jacket on, they're very very scarce.

  11. Just as Baldie says but I've only ever left my brushes in the soak for a couple of days, maybe four or five and they've remained ok to this day. Did one last week for a friend I was with out lamping and it now hangs proudly from his rear view mirror. I always wash the brush afterwards under a tap and then with a whipping motion, remove the excess water. They normally come up a treat. Hang it up to dry. Hoping to do one or two more this week.

OTC, you must have left "something in" when you took the tail off. The small mustelids can be reet tough, (as in getting everything out) to strip cleanly. I've several Mink tails here and they're all a little stiff.

  12. I've just received a letter from Tony Andrews "Chief Executive" of the Scottish Countryside Alliance asking for support and/or a donation this was my response

    Dear Sir or Madam

Please delete me from your mailing list ID No 1193266 as I cannot support an organisation that does not have the Scottish Countryside and Scottish fieldsports enthusiast at heart??, Your organisation is a devolved organisation and not Independant of the Countryside Alliance your Chief Executive (Mr Tony Andrews) described Nationalism as petty and parochial and also advocated the illegal persecution of raptors using the logo of another organisation (RSPB) and then had the audacity to apportion blame to another organisation (Songbird Survival) I understand he had to apologise publicly for that fiasco?? There are no circumstances in which I would support an organisation that dumped Lurcher/Terrier men? The SCA abandoned its appeal in Scotland because its case was badly drafted and foxhunting was deemed safe by the use of guns while out foxhunting with hounds. I was a member of your organisation for a number of years and was lied to continusly and totally misled I totally support my fellow hunting enthusiasts in England and Wales but never again will I give a penny to your organisation. I'm now a member of the Scottish Association for Countrysports and have been able to secure the membership of a great deal of working dog enthusiasts and clubs for that organisation both north and south of the border without misleading or lying to anyone

Ps: your organisation also would not support the only independantly owned foxhunting website in Scotland in case it upset the TOFFS!!

It is also my intention to post this reply on a number of Fieldsports forums on the internet

Where does it say "Feck off"? :hmm::whistling:

  13. 18 and under you get a free membership of The SCOTTISH ASSOCIATION FOR COUNTRYSPORTS, 5million pounds third party liabilty cover, £100,000 legal cover help with firearms/shotgun renewals/applications it still is'nt too late for you to join SACs?? membership open to all in the UK and covers all fieldsports!! Why join the CA when they don't give a feck about ordinary fieldsports enthusiasts (Lurcher/Terrier men)??

    Tom

Ps: you get a full membership pack as a youngster and all the benefits same as a full member!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto Tom, I've joined this year, full adult package. Very pleased. I've even put the logo at the top of my permission letters.

  14. Looks like they've jumped on the "phone-in" bandwagon..In the Express today you can phone in with your vote for your "Dog of the year". Run by the ARSEpca, they've got to be taking a slice of the money, surely?

  15. England seem to have the sign over the Aussies at the moment in World Cups. Just watching the All Blacks now...Is there anything to stir the human emotion better than those All Blacks doing the Hakka? :notworthy: ...The french were about two foot from their faces, eyeballing them. Great stuff, lets hope for a good game.
