  1. Of course they work! ... whether they are practical...thats matter of opinion.

    A catapult...whether it is multiplex...or a natural...

Is only as powerful as the bands you put on it...

And only as accurate as the shooter.

IMO multiplex is a strong material to make a board cut catapult from.... ive taken plenty of game with one...

And them ones in the link are nicely made.

Aye guys lol, not sure if you understand. I've got a couple of bits of wood that are rough templates for a walking stick. Think one of them is ash. They look perfect size for a catapult but I'm not sure if the wood will be strong enough. They must be about an inch thick. This is all by memory, it's been easy 2 years since I laid eyes on them but I know I have them.

    Here you go baw...

    Check out this thread...

Ive just tested the strength of a hardwood catty...over multiplex....

    Think it was ash..or beech...

    The hardwood split...dangerously...http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/315331-the-strength-of-multiplex-over-hardwoods/?p=3556490

that as absolutely no bearing at all on the quality and superiority of a natural hardwood seasoned fork . firstly if used properly a fork would never be struck like that and secondly if looked after properly seasoned hardwood lasts a lifetime .those home made forks to be honest wouldnt last two minutes out side in winter time and would be very difficult to use in the field .

As far as i understood it... he was talking about a board cut 'Y' thumbstick shape cut from a board of hardwood... not a natural fork...which we all know is as strong as they come...

And if baw is an absolute beginner... then a fork hit is likely..

  3. And i take it by merry go round you mean getting passed from pillar to post, he had this dog from 6 week old its now 3 and a half, with a really genuine reason for getting rid, and i can guarentee that this dog has a home for life with me and will be here to the end... atb

If youve got it for the longrun... then thats ofcourse the best outcome...

Maybe you should have let it settle a while before taking it out... could have fecked off on you... a complete stranger...

But hey... people do things different ways... good luck...

  5. Next was the multiplex...

2 direct fork hits... and only 2 small dents...

The third hit split the wood on the fork... but didnt snap it...

I then hammered it a few times... and it split and 'cracked' off.... notice how it didnt snap completely...

The difference is... the multiplex wont snap and send the fork tips back at your face at a dangerous speed...whereas the hardwood...will split down the grain...with ease... and cause damage.

  6. Today i routered out some multipex blanks... and started a router on a hardwood blank... only the hardwood blank split...

Ofcourse due to some error on my part with the router...

But the way the hardwood split...with ease...

Made me want to test it further...

Id routered out 8 multiplex blanks with no issues at this stage..

Ill post 2 videos..of the 2 woods..in the same situation...

The first is the hardwood (missing a fork...as it split on the router) ... possibly ash or beech? ...

Clamped in... and hit with 12mm steel...from about 2/3feet away... as close as i could...

    Double theraband gold...25>20mm tapered...

The hardwood split...dangerously easy on the first shot...

If that would have been a fork hit... youd be sure to have a lump if wood lodged in your face....well...a sore face anyway... ;) ...

  7. Hey buddy...

Theres a tutorial at the top of the section... how to make your own from a natural fork...

Go and find a fork... stick to the tutorial... and you will have something good enough to hunt with... for free...

Theres also a thread on how to make your own bandsets....

Everything you need to get started at minimal cost  ...

  8. If your talking about military boots.... then aye.... the standard issue G10'S would and do leak... your sure to have wet feet with them... as you are with jungle boots...

The goretex issue pro boots....arent bad at all... ive wore them... but didnt like them... i know lads that do...

I think afghanistan has been a tremendous learning curve for kit let alone boots...

We got issued the goretex pro-boots for a winter tour... but we soon reverted back to the desert lowa/altberg... as once your feet got wet going the the shiit and piss streams and wadi's... you just couldnt dry them out....

The deserts would get wet... and be dry the next day...

I think the military has cottoned on to the fact that boots...and good ones at that.... are vital and thus are supplying better quality as standard issue and not for operational tours only...

Im happy with the non goretex ones... ive a pair of altbergs here... had a few month... never been polished...only wore them a few times...after this thread... i filled them with tissue..and soaked them for 90mins in water... the tissue was bone dry...as i expected...

Better quality leather? .... must be... but its not just this pair...

The lowas ive had were dry too... the other altbergs...

    Each to their own...

But for me... the goretex boots are more hassle than theyre worth  ....

  9. Like your catty BPR , wheres it from ?

Dan ford (dragonfly custom slingshots) ...

It was a prototype he sent me to test... made from nylon...
