  1. Free music festival this weekend location is cottingham east yorks 5 miles west of Hull several stages at various pubs in the village great atmosphere about 180 acts, diverse range of music, artists from all over the world, everyone welcome. INFO springboard cottingham.
  2. A lot were very good fox dogs beddys can be as hard as nails. Since when were bullxs 100% fox killers ive seen some that wouldnt mix it with a fox, one even jacked and was shown up by a whippet that held its ground. Not having a go at bullxs but no breed is 100%.
  3. Not just dumped at sea guys we unearthed an ammunition dump in beverley east yorks buried only 4feet down, would have made a bloody big hole if that lot had gone off, home guard buried it in 1946 apparently MOD never kept proper records of all dumps. Fact is there are some complete bombers buried in yorkshire article in local paper , gave all the info on this, makes you wonder whats down there,
  4. So how many match whippets can you name, I don't doubt whippets will catch hares from time to time, no doubt they might catch more than my old springer used to do. Any running dog will catch a few in a lifetime given the right circumstances but with all honesty, I've owned pedigree whippets that barely gained ground on rabbits on short grass that had maybe a 20 yard start. Then all i can say mate is you never had the right stock, only saluki cross owners claim to do 3out of3 5out5 ect question was can whippets do hares, yes they can but no dog has a 100% record on winter hares.
  5. Christ theres some shit talked on here a whippet around 30lbs is more than capable of taking hares, as for poor feet and thin skin, usually a remark from someone with a total ignorance of the breed, mine regularly took hares in jan and feb not in summer, a fit hare is the ultimate chase for any dog no matter what cross or purebreed.
  6. Seen a very similar type in crete only smaller in stature, working style was identical as was the terrain in that vid. What i do remember of them was they opened up all the time and were very agressive to other dogs.
  7. Got to admit they appeal to me very smart looking hounds.
  8. All he did was put in a load of claims for a mortgage that was already paid off, be fair weve all done it havent we can easily slip your memory, i mean i cant remember if ive paid mine off like f**k.
  9. Define small? My beddy/whippet is 22" It seems they vary in size a fair bit. Was really talking about first crosses mate, my old bitch was23 tts second cross though and game as hell. What dog doesnt get ruined when the show crowd get their hands on them, Still enough decent beddys around though.
  10. Rillington is a village near malton east yorks where george lived for a while.
  11. Because despite what you hear from the armchair experts on here they can do the buisness ,only small dogs, unless crossed to greys , but hearts like lions.
  12. Im liking that mind, looks a very handy cross, some great pictures as well You guys that have these crosses do you find the beddie has added great scenting ability my beddygrey collie grey is brilliant at using its nose to find game. Do like them dogs by the way.
  13. Fifty years and still going strong and still dont know it all unlike some members on here.
  14. Had a mate who used to judge at shows took no end of stick for placing dogs that had scars, as he told the whingers im judging on what i think is a true working dog not on what looks pretty, and beleive me that guy knew his dogs. Strange how he was never asked again.
  15. A recent post on this forum regarding a guy who had a vixen rearing cubs in his garden brought out varying opinions as to what course of action he should take, whether to cull or let nature take its course. My view was to leave well alone as killing cubs just aint my thing. Got me thinking though are there any aspects of hunting that you do not like, for me as i stated in an earlier post i would never take part in a hare drive, a messy buisness and requiring very little skill as a shot. I know plenty of hunting folk who all enjoy different aspects of our sport, some would never shoot a fox the
  16. No doubt in my mind as to what is killing off songbirds, lack of control over corvids, magpie numbers have exploded in east yorks as a kid i very rarely saw one now i see dozens every day. True the grey squirrel is having some impact, but to say sparrowhawks are doing the damage is bollocks. Lets not forget man is doing far more damage pulling out hedgerows destroying habitat, and turning what was once fertile meadows into sterile praries with very little food for ground foraging birds. On a lighter note found a sklarks nest with 3 eggs in an area where they had dissapeard for several years, al
  17. Want a druggy sixties song try beatles lucy in the sky with diamonds self explanatory really. Best one was white rabbit jefferson airplane GRACE SLICK the hippie godess what a girl.
  18. Yeah true heroes, not like the sporting figures that frequently get tagged as heroes these days. I remember talking to a veteran of the somme and he told me there wasnt a moment during that conflict that he wasnt scared shitless, didnt stop him doing his duty though, that is the mark of a true hero. Shame they didnt return to a land fit for heroes.
  19. A borzoi x grey super looking animal, single handed rossette dog. As a worker about as much use as a concrete parachute.
  20. If you can lay your hands on a saluki whippet you wont go far wrong, they have the speed and stamina.
  21. Seen a lot of well trained lurchers in my time, but i can count on one hand the amount of dogs you can call off while chasing quarry. Any of you guys own such a dog, before anyone asks why ive seen one or two dogs killed on roads while hunting, and such a command would have saved them.
  22. Was looking at a book the other day dated 1936 title escapes me, but it mentioned the two types of whippet the working racing type and the show variety so nothing new there. I dont know when the kc recognised the whippet, but too much emphasise is placed on kc registration.
  23. Got three gallons of the stuff on the go, but ive been told its great when fortyfied with gin or vodka ,any of you guys tried it.
  24. To all my irish mates and any irish on this site stay sober.
  25. How come some people can be on the dole for years and they never get bothered by the dss we all know at least one or more. When i was made redundant years ago they were never off my case, reason i went self employed. While were at it poachers should be transported to the colonies, good old days.
