if you want a good laying bantam go for light sussex bantams. hardy good layers docile nice to look at. if you are hatching your own roughly half of them would be cockerals. then you have the problem of getting them homes or getting rid of them.
  8. also some people will find they are better suited to training dogs of different temperaments. some people will do well with a challenging forward type of dog but struggle with a sensitive dog and vise versa.
  9. i agree any lurcher can be trained to a good standard by a sensible owner . who is prepared to put the time and effort in. but dogs are also individuals. you can get the challenging forward type dog that needs a firm hand. a sensitive dog that needs the gentle approach to training. also the lazy reluctant dog that needs geeing up during training.you can get these in the same cross no matter what it is.

  11. i regret not owning this type, the land i used to go on had plenty game sadly no more. saw a most impressive bitch work . saw some and talked to older blokes who had owned this type. nothing but praise for them. this was in the eighties. then the saluki cross craze came to my area and i havent seen a deerhound cross since. more the pity.
  12. some dogs are slower than others but do learn. it is still only very youngdog give it time.when having a young dog i would bounce a tennis ball across a hard surface. i think it helps with the pups eye mouth co ordination when trying to snatch a hard bounced ball.
  13. starting in a narrow passage way is ideal for a pup. your pup is forming a habit which hopefully stay with it for life.just keep the lessons short if it does 1 perfect retreive i would leave it at that for the day. seen quite a few pupus sickened by over reteiving lessons. as the pup is older try new areas. change the dummy pack the rabbit skins to add weight.but never too heavy for a young pup to carry. i would use gundog training dummys wrapped in skins. then as time progresses i would use cold game [dead rabbits] hopefully some young ones to startoff.found with some dogs they refused at fir
