  1. I charge £30-£45 for domestics, agricultural i do free for hunting permission[only if there is a good head of game]Otherwise i charge £10 an hour, farmers round here wont pay any more.
  2. My bitch wont run a rabbit near hedges,i dont find it a problem. When she,s running other stuff she,s totally different.Find some warrens round cover and hedges and bolt rabbits.the dog will run them hard,if that does,nt work dont be to hung up on it,it,s only a rabbit.
  3. Peer pressure, they listen to their mates stories of fantastic bags of game caught with their superior dogs,by the time they realise its mostly bullshit theyve swapped or sold a perfectly adequate dog.
  4. There,s a lot of rubbish about with all breeds, especially Blacks,Lakeys and Russels As with these breeds and Bedlingtons if you look hard enough and are willing to wait you will find one.
  5. Mice are tough little f""""rs,my lakey was mustard on house mice, lethal on field mice but cocked on harvest mice.I had to shovel it.
  6. Depends,if you find them[how hard are you looking]if i could have pick of litter and how much will you be asking, they will be well in demand but i wont pay over the odds.
  7. There seems to be more of an effort now to breed true working Beddys[not the K.C. rubbish]There,s a way to go yet but there are more about now than there as been for a long time. Try the Working Bedlington Forum.
  8. Id always look for the best working dog available, regardless of breed or type,to line my bitch.
  9. Take someone with you, hold a dog and carry the rabbits.
  10. Dependant on quarry, dog using all its senses to find, flush and then the chase.
  11. Little respect left for quarry now, probably why there are so few decent lurcher lads now.
  12. It use both terriers and lurchers, terriers better markers.
  13. Some peoples expectations are set to high, usually by listening to other peoples half truths. Theres plenty of decent allrounders about, theres even more rubbish, pick through the chaff, believe only what you see.
  14. Show them by all means,as long as they are genuine workers. The non workers and their owners irk me.
  15. Daveo, not all Bedlingtons are of the large type, the K.C. stuff is but i dont count them as real Bedlingtons[just look at the working dogs they have ruined].Look for a working type Beddy of the correct proportions and you will not be dissapointed with their working ability, they are extremely versatile. With the correct training you can stop them self entering.I have used Beddy,s for bushing for nearly 30 years, i expect mine to bolt a fox though.
  16. Beddys are very good and very keen dogs. Not slating the beddy at all, basicly the guy slates a patt for goin to ground but yet thinks beddys don't? Thats the picture i get anyways.. Fairplay BooMster, anybody working terriers that at some stage does not lose them, either to ground or permanently, must keep them on a lead.
  17. The majority of dogmen[and women, see even dogmen can be politically correct]are responsible and respect land and quarry,i for one will not stick up for the mindless minority.[men,women,boys,girls-i think that covers it].
  18. BooMster,i dont know what your experience is with Beddy,s but like all terriers there is good and bad amongst them all,the versatility of a good working type Beddy shouldnt be underestimated.
  19. There is also folk on here who turn posts around so that dogmen come out in a bad light..... If thats aimed at me your an idiot mate. I am a dog man, and would never shoot a hare with a rifle or any other kind of gun. However its about having a balanced / sane point of view and not being blinkered in your argument otherwise folk will tear it apart and it wont be worth shit. My point was that MANY dog men would have respected the land and quarry and not have stripped it bare, as would many shooters, however all areas of hunting have now been flooded with ignorant folk with no respect
  20. I know landowners that shoot all groundgame, sick of lampers doing damage, killing sheep and thieving.Same old story the minority spoiling it for the rest.
  21. Thats shooters for you..... waste of good skin. It's a numbers game to them, no respect for the quarry. The land in question was probably being managed just fine over the years, taking out x amount of hares during the year. Along comes fat arse and his gun...... wipe out. f****n hate em... I'll bet he injured quite a number of them too and they call this humane!!!........... Dog = kill/free........ Gun = Kill/maimed/injured/slow death/free......... No brainer!!!
  22. When you get another 57 opinions will you decide on what dog to get or will you go back to the WBF and ask for more. I used to be undecided now im just not sure.
  23. You got several posts on the lurcher site, there was also a post there on the same topic with lots of replies, now you post the same topic in the terrier site, go and ask your mum if you are really allowed a dog.
  24. If you are going to get a lurcher decide what prey you will hunt, what terrain you will be running on and pick a breed thats best suited to your needs.
  25. My dogs are deerhound/greyhound-collie/greyhound,30+ rabbits was a regular occurence [back of grasswoods,grassington]1981 to 86.It was crawling with rabbits, we used to take 4or5 lads and dogs[im sure some of the south yorks. lads remember]at one stage we used to take lads just to carry rabbits. I still go up there but the rabbits arent as abundant. Kettlewell was the place to go till the snow last in winter, decimated the population. Still some good spots in Dales, find em yourself though,ha ha.
