  1. Depends what type of hunting it will be used for,id leave the Gutchcommon stuff alone,K.C. breeding,if its a bushing dog you will have little trouble finding one,an earth dog will be harder to find.Try the Working Bedlington Forum, there will pups available.Wait to find the right pup,id look for the earth type, then if you decide in years to come that youve got the Beddy bug, youll have decent stuff to breed from.[To much rubbish about]
  2. iv been rabiting for over ten years now and have just used a terrier as a marking dog. only really been into rabits but i know what ur saying. what would you say is a good all rounder? Million dollar question, quarry list, terrain, personal experience and resources have to be taken into consideration. My own preference is Collie/Grey-Deerhound/Grey.
  3. If its just rabbiting your after a whippet will suffice, the trouble with hunting if you catch the bug is you will want to widen your horizons,if thats the case i would go for something a bit more versatile.
  4. I prefer to keep just bitches,if both are kept theres the aggravation when bitch,s come on heat.
  5. Treat it the same as you would any other terrier,Bedlingtons make excellent bushing dogs, working below just take your time, there,s no rush, its still a pup.If its K.C. bred id be extremely surprised if its bred out of allround workers,if you,ve no paperwork with it and its bred out of grafters id say it will most likely be an hybrid. An hybrid Bedlington is a better prospect as an earth dog.Keep it working and post its progress, best of luck.
  6. Ive never seen the footage and i dont know the people involved,a bad dog is a bad dog,no matter what type of terrier. There is far to much dross about in most terrier breeds, instead of owners doing the right thing with these failed workers,an high percentage are bred out of,with a false reputation as working stock. There are genuine workers about,of all terrier breeds, one or even one hundred poor workers should not condemn a breed or type of terrier. There are decent bred terriers about, bred by honest, genuine folk,im afraid they are in the minority. The majority of all terrier pups now bred will p
  7. Hes entertaining enough in his own way,a bit naive maybe,i bet he could tell a tale or two over a glass of cider.
  8. The best hunting lurcher i ever saw was a Whippet/collie,nothing could hide from this dog,it had a poor catch rate though-short of pace. The best i owned was a Collie/Grey-Deerhound/Grey,it would jump on top of a wall and air scent,if it carried on into the field you knew it would put something up.
  9. Theres been times when ive been totally skint, the dogs always got fed first, they where then able to put a bit of coin in the pocket with what i sold, the extra money put food on the table on more than one occasion.I care little what the dogs cost me they give me more satisfaction and pleasure than anything else money can buy.The biggest mistake my 1st wife made was giving me a choice "her or the dogs".
  10. Bedlingtons, mainly due to the show fraternity and K.C.,lost their way for a number of years. There is now a concerted effort by a few dedicated breeders,to rectify the situation. There are several decent Beddies about now,Topper on this site will put you straight on that score.Look at the show Lakeys,Blacks and Russels, how many of these will hold their own at the sharp end, this was the ruination of a lot of the Beddys.Have a look on the Working Bedlington Forum,at least these lads are resurrecting the real Bedlington once more.If the reputation of one dog condemns an whole breed, then we are all
  11. Good permission is hard come by,keep it to yourself then no one can ruin it for you.Once youve got your feet under the table with one farmer his neighbours will usually follow suit.
  12. The only type of lurcher i keep now, genuine allrounders, might not be the best dogs on certain disciplines but will hold there own,as an allround package i dont believe there is a better cross. If you find a litter that is well balanced, retaining the attributes of all its breeding, you wont go far wrong.
  13. The law basically says that you must use the minimum force necessary to defend yourself, another person or property, but its a murky, grey area.Recently a scrote beat my daughter then came to my house armed with a knife threatening to stab me,i confronted him and he lunged at me with the knife, stabbing me in the hand,i just happened upon an iron bar, very convenient,i then gave him and his car a lesson in manners. The police arrested me and my son,i have been charged with assault, criminal damage and affray, the scrote as been charged with having no car insurance.I thought i was acting within the let
  14. That would mean that he would have to get off his arse I bet he's just some chav who has never worked a day in his life and has it all handed to him on a plate With the shitty comments you come out with practically every time you post, my money is on you being an infil-TRATOR. An anti just on here to stir shit! Yes very constuctive, ive little to prove to anybody,a couple of lads on this site no the capabilities of what lies in my kennels, what i hunt and catch is only my concern,in todays political climate isleep better that way. What you may disagree with another may not.Happy hunti
  15. I suppose as a last resort if everything else fails, you could put all your pent up anger into something productive, like looking for other permission. Why do people always look for the easy option?.
  16. Yep, and it's usually posted by people who have been on the site for a short time. You don't like it, feck off somewhere else. Maybe the site could get back to the way it used to be then.. So nobody,s allowed to join the forum or have an opinion?,unless that is they only posts threads you agree with or have a positive opinion on,sorry pal smell the roses and wake up to the real world.I dont know you and vice versa, some things we will possibly agree on,some not.Thats life,i can live with the status quo,but i will respect your opinion whether im in agreement or not, cheers.
  17. Do you think thats an acceptable explanation,do as i say or?.If you will answer me one question illbe eternally grateful and never raise the issue again,i doubt that will make any difference,do you hunt?.
  18. A moderator deletes a topic without any explanation, when pressed gives a curt explanation and then blocks the topic,is it just me that finds this unacceptable. There as got to be a more democratic way of doing things. If you dont agree with a topic express your opinion, when you have done so accept the fact that other peoples opinions may differ.Saying the topic is illegal is bordering on ludicrous, the lad asked a question, the answers he receives will probably influence the descision he makes, thus a reasoned debate may lead him on the straight and narrow,or it may lend him to transgress a little.
  19. Again, there was no real falling out,a difference of opinions maybe. Before a post is removed maybe its time the person whom sees fit to remove it explains their decision, maybe the Moderators need better moderating. This is an Hunting forum and believe it or not Hunting topics will surface now and then.Do some of the Mods. have a problem with Hunting topics. We may all have different opinions on different aspects of hunting,so be it,when one persons opinion becomes sacrisant then the problems start.

    Amazing

People who hunt accept the final outcome when there is ultimately the death of an animal,i feel most people will agree that death should be swift and painless if possible. To see an animal in obvious distress, knowing with the injuries it has sustained will lead to a slow, miserable end,is neither funny or amusing.Getting satisfaction from the hunt and kill is totally different.IMO.
  21. I had one living next to me for 8 years, ran an animal sanctuary as well, she knew what i kept the dogs for,i didnt rub her nose in it,covered up everything i brought home, didnt leave anything that would upset her lying about. We lived in harmony for years until my dozy son came home one night, making a racket, talking loud, banging car doors and then dragging a roe out of the back of the motor, across the drive and up the steps,to top it all the prat hung it up next to her fenceline.
  22. With the quarry species at hand over there, can you imagine what an allrounder would be like?.I wonder what the life expectancy of their dogs is?.Some fine specimens.
  23. I can just imagine the dinner table, dog sat chewing on a nice plump, tender, juicy, succulent pheasant and the owner with their microwave meal.
  24. Many years ago,1984-85?,after the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl. The year after there was a policy in the Dales that the farm stock wasnt fit for human consumption, farmers where compensated. There where signs of radiation in young stock,we started catching rabbits with allsorts of deformities, lumps all over, lesions.By the following season it wasnt evident anymore.I still ate them, which probably accounts for the way i look[according to the wife].
  25. It,s a strange, complex yet wonderful attribute, human nature.Scholars over millenia have studied and tried to make reason of it,better men[and women, see even political correctness lives in the heart of all true hunters]than me and you have tried and failed to fathom it.Whatever topic is posted there will be a differing of opinions, some people,s opinions make my p*ss boil and probably vice versa, therein lies the crux of the matter,if you dont want to accept the opinion of another, express your views with a reply,if you can,t keep it civil,so be it,thats human nature, accept it if you wish and refu
