Can those types catch much in bramble brier ect or are they bred more for work rate?
They'll catch em but more flushers and finders. Good ones will face any cover and have good voices. I don't like spaniels as they're mute and too giddy. They smash through cover with pace when there's fu*k all there. Not for me

tatsblister: That dog looks a cracker, could probably join the beating line or down on the marsh wildfowling.
I'd steer clear of beagle crosses for beating and retrieving birds mate.

A good mate sent 1 off these up to me for 6 months to work alongside my russell as I flushed alot off roe etc.
She came right into her own flushing and marking fox to ground. Would travel any cover.
I was wondering does anyone keep or breed this type ?
Dog on the left is bred that way. He's the best I've got he will smash through anything and screams his head off.

Lovely mate!
the bullies love the fresh buds off the fruit trees don’t they!
all that’s missing is a comfy chair and a fridge
Yes they do mate. Bully hen from you is doing fine

True about bullies they get more goodness from the buds & leafy matter than they do seeds. As for the chair & fridge would be nice. But little disturbance this time of year. I try to keep away from the birds.
Nip in to change seeds, veg water then back out again. Leave em to it. Insulation needs covering but i'll get to it in the future it's only cosmetic. Saw a pair of bullies and goldies feedin each other already so fingers crossed. Would have had two pair native bullies and a pair sib bullies but lost a bully hen to going light a few week ago, was gutted. Got some baycox in the pantry now and theyre on it first two days of every month to keep it bay so hopefully no more issues. Chance in hell in findin another bully hen to pair cock with at this time of year but if by some miracle anyone hears anything let me know
Cheers

The cages look bang on too pal. Easy to clean the full wire fronts & side cages There's some Italian ones I've had my eyes on. Not cheap though. Who's the designer off them you've got.
They're italian mate. Called 2GR's. Thanks pal

Didn't think many people kept bird in those little cages any more.
Is that one of those American Kestrels?
Think they're just in a show cage to view them mate...

Best thing to do just catch them up put one at a time in single cage. Outside on bird room and watch them through kitchen window. If it's a cock bird you'll clock it singing away. Then put that in a flight cage. Keep going till you've got through all the cocks & hens. Weekend pottering around garden and house you'll sort it out.
Are your goldies still squabling with each other. I've got two pair in decent size cages and i've put a divider in to let them together few hour a day but still squabling when I let them in to each other.

Years ago when i was about 14, i had a shed near the house where i bred Gloster Canaries, That year the weather was mild like it has been this winter/spring. I let them all go down early. It turned colder and snowed in late March beginning of April, I lost the lot,
Great bit of advice there mate.
Thanks

Yh I’ve noticed other birds like crow, pigeon building but was surprised when I seen the 2 goldies yesterday I tried to get a pic but when I parked up they wouldn’t come down. Yh looks that way few mine singing away hopefully you’ll get few nests soon then
Because the temperature is already picking up even though it's only feb I'm toyin with the idea of increasing the light in the shed early to see if they go down earlier than they naturally would. In my insulated shed the temp is around 15 degrees. Only thing that could knacker it up is if we have a freak cold spell. Never know what the weather is gunna do in the UK do ya.

Anyone else notice any goldies starting to pick up material, I’ve just seen 2 goldfinch picking up dog hair on the side of the rd
Haven't seen it yet mate but got a feeling they're gunna start early this year. End of feb and my two Goldie cocks are singing their heads off

I have a spare bully cock 23 bird if someone wants him for a hen for the up coming season. Had two pair but lost a hen so he's on his todd. He had his ring on but developed a large cyst on his leg so i had to chop his ring off with nail clippers to avoid irritation which maybe caused it and theres still a bit on his leg but he's healthy as anything other than that piping away for a hen. He's bright and sharp. I'd swap him for any other britsh finch cock.
Cheers

I'll give the thing that I originally posted a go as it seems to be a medication specifically for finches with respiratory problems.
The bird is eating and drinking fine but seems a bit puffed up and not as sharp as the other bullies.
I thought it might have been coccidiosis (going light) or Trichomoniasis (fat finch disease) but the bird has been treated for both and has kind of perked up but still isn't as it should be as when it is perched it seems to be breathing heavy so maybe it's the 'gapes' as this seems to be common in Bullfinches.

Think I've got a Bully with the gapes, sat panting on the perch and seems a bit off.
I've found an old post on here where someone suggested Tylan which is a respiratory medication used for racing pigeons. Seems difficult to get a hold of as it's only available on a prescription.
Anyone tried this?
Says it's for respiratory problems in cage birds.
Anyone know if it would do the trick?
Thanks

Spot on mate. I’d love to see similar breeds working hillsides, rock piles etc. They look decent
They move fast, don't hunt slow like full beagles. Move quickly like spaniels but all have hound voice.
