I am expecting a couple of calls, farmer I do moles for had been helping 2 others mowing grass, said there was loads of heaps in amongst it. He gave them my number and a good review, said they were going to ring me. -

This is a double one, just made the one to try, put it in the other day and caught a single mole, the other side never went off so will catch double, I will be just making a few double catch and a lot of single catch. Made a few single catch already and catch well with them. -

Cracking traps they are, I made aluminium version of the plastic Bob made, I have tinkered about and made a couple of changes, also made a double catch version, honestly these traps are difficult not to catch with, only failed once and I think a sheep sprung it because it wasn’t back filled. Currently I am playing about making different length ones as I want them catching around the ribs. Nice to catch on something you put together yourself ? -

aye i will be pleased to see it sorted to your standard Jimmy. I was given it a few years back, it was seazed up, i got new spring and other bits and got it working, not to your standard though. I havent been using it so i thought if you would have liked to have a go at it then gift it to a new starter that would be great for me, i am not the type of fella to sell on something i was given, i believe in being right by folk and am totaly happy for it to land in the hands of a newbie to the game. thank you Jimmy for taking it on and i look forward to seeing the results. -

Self employed pest control
lifelong cumbrian replied to thefensarefarbutistillgo's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I just do farms and the odd garden, when I retire I will advertise and maybe pick up a few garden and hotel type jobs, be a lot easier than carrying stuff around fields, I am on foot, I need to get sorted with a jimny or quad or possibly both, I would have a Land Rover but most will have been hammered with the price bracket I’m in, saying that Jimny are great but very overpriced -
Do you think its better than mk1 rapid, i have 100 177 which is great but i wish i had never sold my rapid, need my head examined lol.

one to watch for me, nice size build. everything looks great

as soon as possible i let the pup watch me handling the ferret, once you have confidence it isnt going to lunge at it, put the pup on a lead and set the ferret on the ground, let the pup watch it moving around. I like to have a kit available as well to introduce the pup to along with a older ferret, it gets the kit used to the dog at the same time. obviously when learning the dog with a older ferret you want a ferret that is is dog proof, not one that is likely to nip the dog as that will only knock things right back. Just my own personal thing but i like to get a pup out solo with the ferrets

Self employed pest control
lifelong cumbrian replied to thefensarefarbutistillgo's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I think when you get older you start to appreciate your hunting fishing etc more and personally I don’t clash myself as I used to years back, I like to make all my own gear for all sorts of hobbies as I have always done, numbers arnt the big thing for me now, firstly the rabbits and fish are not here in the numbers no more, I take everything at a much slower pace nowadays, I had a heart attack 8 yrs ago yesterday and also get angina, I like to do my hobbies myself mainly, I can go when I want and come home when I want, nothing like being out with a ferret and my collie netting a few rabbits or -
Self employed pest control
lifelong cumbrian replied to thefensarefarbutistillgo's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I started a mole trapping business off self employed last summer after a few years learning the job, I also work full time as a sheetmetal worker/ welder for the same company for 42yrs. I am going to do more mole jobs when I take early retirement in 2 years, I have picked up a fair few farms for the moles and am kept busy at nights and weekends, I don’t advertise at present just getting jobs word of mouth. Be a nice little top up for my pension and I will be under no pressure at all to make money, no way would I try and do moles full time as a job, to many things can hinder you like weather an -
