  1. I was ferreting yesterday for the last time this season and had my two jills out. They both started to slow up after about 4 hours ferreting. Is this fitness something you can improve with exercise? I don't get out much these day with my new job, but I never noticed them slow down that much before.
  2. seen a few posts in the past about these metal traps and saw them here http://www.askari-hunting.co.uk/__WebShop__/product/hunting/hunting-accessories-1/hunting-tackle/other-hunting-accessories-1/rabbit-trap-basket/detail.jsf
  3. Mark 3 M Ferret Finder Used by myself last season works no problem searching and locating. Collar has some mud on as it has been used but not effecting working condition. I have also attached 4 small bells to the collar to aid locating the ferret above ground, these can be easily taken off if you don't want them on. Batteries for collar and finder included. Reason for selling is because I need some new boots and I have multiple finders. Had to relist due to time waster not wanting to pay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=181218500605

  6. thanks for the replies. to update I dropped him off at 9, got a call from the vet about 12 saying that he has got a disfigured penis...... resulting in him being sterile, and no need for an operation. which would explain why he didn't father any young last year. So the vets didn't do anything and also didn't charge anything either, so good day for my wallet and no op so good day for the ferret!
  7. My hob is going for the op tomorrow, just wondered how long the fella will be there for? few hours ? or over night ? Cheers

  9. Might be worth giving the GWCT an email, they do a lot of work on grey partridge.
  10. Which college is this? Not moulton is it? Thought I saw you live in northamptonshire on another post?
  11. I have seen a method of coppice propagation that involves bending a stem over and pegging the tip into the ground with the very tip coming straight up. I'm interested in this method and if anyone else knows what I'm on about, have they got any tips or experiences? Cheers
  12. Heard a story of "the best way to kill a rabbit" firstly find burrow, lodge a brick above burrow entrance, sprinkle black pepper in the burrow entrance, wait, when rabbits wonder out it will sniff the pepper, go to sneeze, then knock itself out on the brick! ........... easy
  13. Been our last night and it was the worst night ever, only got 2! From 11 people spread out throughout all the woods on the land. But same as above just flying too high and not dropping in.
  14. Had a special 6 for about 8 years now and very impressed, it has been through so much and not let me down. Skiing at minus 14 I had the vents open! One thing its designed for when you are moving and generating your own heat. So if you are still and its very wet its worth having a light weight waterproof to stick over the top. Would highly recommend it. Not too sure on how the alternatives work but when/if this one wears out I will defiantly be replacing with another buffalo. If you want to see how good their products are have a look at their stories section on the buffalo website.
  15. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=lMp3LKmTEng&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DlMp3LKmTEng&gl=GB Found a video showing the same way. I just do it between my thumbs instead of the jig, and electric tap instead of string to start and Finnish the plaiting.
  16. I have made one and its really easy and quick! You just need a good length of string that's strong enough to hold the rabbits then measure out an arms length, repeat this length 6 times so you have it all looped between your hands. Now electrical tap approximately 20 cm from one end, hang these loops on a peg and plait the string until 20 cm from the other end and cable tie again. That can hold 12 rabbits, and as long as you use strong string and cable tie well then it will last well. If your a strong man do more loops and it will hold more, weaklings do less loops and it holds less! I wil
  17. This is what we are doing, have about 9 people one in each wood keeps them moving about .
  18. I think roost shooting is my favourite form of any shooting! Followed closely by duck flighting.
  19. I wear Scarpa sl boots, these are primarily mountaineering boots but they have lasted me 7 years and are still going strong. They have a really thick leather which give good support and also allows the boot to get away without any waterproof lining! Sounds rubbish but its really good as it lowers costs, and greatly improves breathability, and as long as you look after the boots with regular dubbin its highly water resistant (i can walk along a stream bed with no problem). Might be another option to add confusion to your choice! Also they are going cheaper as scarpa have brought out a new versi
  20. Just back from roost shooting and we haven't had as many as the last two weeks, 50 first week, 25 last week and 15 tonight. Are others having the same results?
  21. This post persuaded me to have a look out of my window this morning, and at the veg patch was a big fat woody! I waited as it wasn't a safe shot, and it flew up into a tree, right behind two twigs crossing right infront of its head. So waited some more for it to bob it head from behind the twigs. Then using my old HW 35 and a little lead wasp, I took the head shot and down it tumbled. It landed about 30cm from the ferrets so they got a nice fresh warm breakfast! So thanks, I'm glad I read the thread
  22. Was recommended this shirt as a substitute for a swannie, has anyone tried or had any experience with it?
