  1. Or he could be at the other end of the scale BlackBuck and have them to fit and in to much of a routine. All well and good when your a Pro or have them on your doorstep but sometimes you need to be shaking things up so they don't get set in there ways. Depending on the circumstances sometimes less is better and plenty of grub to keep the edge off. As has been sayed though from now on you'll see them changing and getting up on they're toes. The seasoned heads arent daft and know its not far away. Bitches in season. Full moons. A strange disturbance. To much freedom in the grass runs. Been there
  2. Hence your original post. No it's cause they're feckin' stinkin and the wife won't come near ya.
  3. What's the obvious reason they won't feed mutton ??? ........ Because a dogs diet can affect it's scenting ability and there's not enough protein in it!! Anyway Neil i don't know how you can be bothered. It's hard to educate ignorance. But thanks for starting this.. JP might be right, he might be wrong. But one things for sure i've learned something and so have others. I've already been bending mens ears, the same men who have been hunting years and had or have some fine packs of hounds, the same men who will be on the blower 2 or 3 times a week during the season cause they've seen something

  5. Thanks for the link Gregg. There'll be a few lads doing a bit of studying now Nature's a wonderful thing.
  6. Well when i read it first my opinion wasn't far away from yours to be honest lads. But the question above still stands. Theres so many variables when it comes to Hounds, Hunting and Scent that it'd take alot of judgement. Like i say.. When it's a man with a wealth of expierience, and more so his hounds doing the talking, sometimes it's best to take another mouthful and ponder an opinion. Were as if it was from a man that hadn't a ounce about hounds, more ferrets. I'd merely grin and smile. A bit like Socks.
  7. Interesting point of view alright.. I'd also be interested to know if there was many packs who could actually challenge his point of view from expierience? Instead of jumping up with thats aload of shit straight away lol. Hard to beat an opinion from a man and pack, who apparently, are bang at they're business. It's a move i'd of never contemplated, money aside, hounds need condition. And theres no better than flesh. On another note. Lyn's books are top drawer. Really really enjoy them and it's nice to have a bit of reading from the hound world. From the two Try Backs to Hunters of the We
  8. WF - I think he said slower and not slow. For me the simple answer is some men like to watch and hear they're hounds hunting. Others seem content with a quick burst of music over a hill and then paddle like fcuk to find and keep in with them while they're two valleys away Horses for courses but theres nout wrong with wanting slower to hounds to able to enjoy your sport more. Oh.. and don't confuse pace with drive

    scent.

How many packs in the Uk and Ireland would of/do stick to they're hunted quarry when a fresh un jumps in front of them, but unsighted, and either runs the line or just flashes that of the hunted................. ?
  10. Cracking.. All i'll say is somebody must be doing something right as theres a right few fresh faces there and now a days thats a bit of a rarity. Good on ya's lads
  11. .. Judge the day when you finish and not before you start.. and get out as much as possible. I'm surprised no one else has brought up another major factor on scent? What pack of hounds it is To me ''scent'' and all its ins and outs is one of the major excuses men use for hounds. Too dry/wet/cold/hot/windy/frosty/snowy/ whatever else you hear being threw around sometimes. Don't get me wrong.. scent is scent and it can be a mystery sometimes. But theres packs that seem to pull results when others lack. Then on the other hand as an eejit once said to me '' a bad un will know more
  12. Just a general question.. But what way do you work the fully closed fronts. Ie. Do you leave it open during the day where they are still behind the bars or are the fronts closed over with just the air holes for lighting? If they are closed over most of the day.. is there a reason behind that? Wondered that a few times looking at the kit boxes so this time i decided i'd ask! Cheers
  13. You've never been to Co. Kerry then Theres nowt queer as folk :11: Edited to add: I'd advise your mate to serve his apprenticeship first. ie. Go out with a few packs, see and learn the craic and all thats goes with it. Then decide if he has the time and most of all enjoys working hounds. Too many muppets jumping in feet first these days thinking they'll be the next John Peel. Next thing the only things the hounds are seeing is concrete walls. By the sounds of it your mate hasnt a real notion and would be better starting at the bottom instead of the top! Best of luck to him and
  14. Are use now the Dungannon Foxhounds GWH? Did use get to take it over from the late KC?
  15. Old Dog.. Fair do's mate and keep the chin up. This internet ballicks is just that.. Ballicks. ''better than reading all the crap the hounds get up to on the fells chasing foxes for f****n miles.each to there own'' When you read shite like that you know straight away its a job. Keep doing what your doing and enjoy yourself mucker.. They'll only drag ya down and they're new fad will soon pass. Oh and by the way.. Your a snobby ole git now
  16. One mans medicine is another mans poison. I dont think theres any best set way but everyone has they're own and if its working for them why change. I can gurantee theres men reading ''the footmans'' replys saying to themselves ''wtf'' as it aint text book English foxhunting stuff but there you go. Hunting aint text book. And hunting aint English. At this time in my life i still dont know whats right and whats wrong.. but i will say the best, hardiest, gamest hounds ive seen are the ones who enter quickly and WANT to hunt.. they're not faffing about at 16 months pissing in bushes. And
  17. This seems to be the general opinion of a hell of a lot of people but it's actually false.. And a hell of alot of people also think a Kerry Beagle only comes in ''Black n Tan'' but that is also false! Or so im led to believe Would explain more but havent got the time! Cheers.
  18. DUCKWING.. Your the sort of man i'd like to share a pint or 6 with!!!
  19. Can i ask why mate? If it's worries with the bitch pupping etc due to size then don't worry about that. A bitch grows her pups to her size on the inside... they do the growing on the outside. Not saying the bitch couldn't have problems pupping same as any bitch... but it wouldn't be due to the greyhound.
  20. When did kings dynasty with Irish terrier x lurchers begin? Any of use old pro's remember ''betty'' the full bred greyhound from the north that was put to a full irish dog. Now thats going back over 20 years.... and there was porkys told about them pups to
  21. You need to put either gold or white silkie over a light sussex hen........then yes gold hens and white cocks come out. Is there any pattern for a white silkie over a buff sussex hen?
  22. Happy days lads... And a well done to the lads for bringing this up and even more to the lads putting in the hours behind the scenes contacting/meeting ministers etc etc.. Its a time-consuming and for alot of the time thankless task
  23. Does this site attract every retard going or what? Some fcuking muppets. I'm 100% behind Bryan on this.. and i think it really is worth while pointing out. It's the 21st century lads, not the buzzing 60's anymore. For hunting to continue as it is in this fast moving, animal loving, technology developing society of ours we need to use our heads. Its up to us to portray hunting in a good light, not give the anti's fuel to portray it as something it isnt. Cruel. We all know (well i'm not sure all do on here ) the in's and outs of hunting etc but the general public don't. And alot of
  24. Well done for pulling this up lads.. I'd say a hell of alot of lads hadn't heard or seen of talk of this. I'd always thought the shinners where pro-hunting, a few calls will have to be made. A surprise i must admit. And if any kind hearted soul would be kind enough to show me where the lies is in dazza's post.. and how it's sectarian in any form i'd like to see it. Wind your fcukin necks in lads... and when you've been born, bred and lived in the north i'll maybe listen. Gotta love all these big O'irish men
