harris.had it so the top of the ring perch was 3ft

Ive spoke to a few people about the risk of tethering during colder months but alot of people seem to do it with no problem. Surely in theory the tethering perch could be placed 5 foot off the ground to keep the bird away from any ground frost? yeah u are right min of 3 ft from floor the ones that suffer from wingtip odema are the ones that are kept them out on bow pearches and a bad desighned mews ive bin around b.o.p for a long time and never had probs but some do free loft and have no probs at all its a pearsonal prefrence to be honest... exactly how i had mine.when first manning

Tethering sounds like the easier and safer option all round. I was all for free lofting initially but I will be flying my bird 5-6 times a week in season so it's not like he/she will need the extra exercise of free lofting. I can see the benefit when moulting as being stuck tethered on a perch must be boring as hell but I know a lad who still handles his daily during the moult with no problems. I might go for something like a 10 x 8 shed, take the windows out and swap for bars and tether in there and then in time I could free loft during the moult. If this would be big enough to free l

no but yeah but ........ no mate it weren't a dig at you, just a general comment, when you hear of Harris its always like they not as good as other sorts of BOP's, like they a child or beginners bird, something to move on from as soon as you know the basics and having hunted my own I know they are very versatile and clever hunters, to be fair it can take a few seasons to see the real full potential unlocked, but how many have used them to get into the game and the bird fair play will suffer because of the newbies mistakles etc and maybe moved on well before its learned the ropes and adopt

i read on the iff some time ago that spending to much time with a harris in the beging of its training can cause it to become vocal towards you you Im a believer in not spending too much times in early training, having a hawk sat there for hours isnt doing much, in my manning i kept my hawk working away at a rabbit spine constantly touching him then other than taking him for walks he got put back, never had a problem im with you on that one mate. Take the bird up get it manned get it killing.gives you the best chance at a silent hawk

with the right training method this shouldnt happen, harris hawks are very vocal by nature but with the right method this wont happen, i think most of these problems happen with parent reared birds that the breeder has taken out too early to save on cost with the right training method this shouldnt happen, harris hawks are very vocal by nature but with the right method this wont happen, i think most of these problems happen with parent reared birds that the breeder has taken out too early to save on cost i no that that some breeders do tack birds out to young to save on cost mat

depends on what kind of imprinting.harris hawks are renown for food imprinting but think that thats because that its in there breeding as in the wild they call and are very vocal as they are a pack animal.a mate told me he trained two harris hawks exactly the same way and one became food imprinted and the other not...

mines fueled by beer so donrt tacke notice of mine gaz lol

its nothing to do with the weight verses ability, its weight verses train- ability. take musket where 1/8th of an ounce is the difference between death and living. having an imprint gives you a better weight safety margin. understand what ur saying there mate.my point was from a weight for handling quarry point ov view and knowing gaz he will be going for a female Harris or a female red in which case a female Harris is prity forgiving when it comes to weight management and can handle rabbits hare squirrel phesant (when mugging them ) and a female red tail can take all the quarry mentione

get an imprint they double as an alarm clock an intruder alert and also could be used as a guard dog as they can become very nasty .why people would want to inprint is beoned me ....yes you can fly them at a higher weight but if that is why you want an inprint(not aimed at you there gaz ) to fly it at a higher weight just get a female red or a female Finnish gos as they will have enough weight to talk quarry.and neighbors wont be to happy when they start screaming at you everytime your in the garden.....and that's not to mention the fact that the hawk trys to breed with you ...............
