  1. Just spoken to the firearms dept. and they say I should put the following amounts on my application. .22lr buy 500 and hold 600 .243 buy 100 and hold 150 These amounts seem reasonable to me and are exactly what I was going to ask for anyway. The only thing that they have said is that any land passed off more than 7 years ago will need to be fully vetted again which could be a ball ache as my main land is in Yorkshire and I live in Lancs. Hopefully it will all be worth it in the end.
  2. Shotgun cartridges do not need to be kept in a safe or in any locked box. It is upto you where and how you decide to store them.
  3. I have an AA S410 and can't fault it. It handles well and feels well ballanced, the mag is easy to load and it is very accurate ( well as accurate as I am). They are also 1 of the best loking pre charged rifles out there too and I also like the fact that it has made in England on the side, how often do you see that these days??. Plenty about 2nd hand with prices starting arround £300 for 1 in good condition. I will never sell mine as my son has his eye on it for when he outgrows his HW25 but he may just have to fight me for it then.
  4. Thanks for the advice, makes me feel much better about the prospects and that my requests are not unreasonable in any way.
  5. Sorry for starting yet another FAC thread but every case is different and I didn't want to hijack anyone else’s thread. I have had a shot gun certificate for 7 years now and I am a member in small pheasant syndicate plus have permission on some local farms for pest control where I use a mixture of pre charged air rifle and shotgun to target the pests depending on location and time of day etc. I have been thinking for applying for a FAC for a couple of years now and would need to apply for a .22lr with moderator for rabbits and a .243 with moderator for the fox and deer. All the land th
  6. A small portion of the minced meats I have had from DAF has been quite "high" but most has been ok. I did have to bin a whole box of chicken fillets as they were rotten and not that much cheaper than the stuff I get from the butchers to feed the family. They had gone a greyish white colour and lost all of their texture and firmness and stank to high heaven and my dog was ill after eating some which is the only time he has ever been sick. I may keep using DAF but might switch to the local stuff for convenience. The verdict is still out on both for me.
  7. I finnaly got round to walking the 5 minutes from my house to Clitheroe auction mart. There is a stall there on a Wed that does minced raw food. I bought a selection or tripe, lamb and chicken to compare it to DAF stuff. It is cheaper but the packs are slightly smaller and it smells a bit fresher too plus the dog loved it which is what we want at the end of the day. Think they cahrge 40p a bag or do a box which works out about 35p per bag. The trouble I have with the DAF stuff is that i need to order £50 worth which fills my freezer to the brim and lasts for about 6 weeks so I have a 2 week p
  8. FAO Billy bronk Would like more info on the meat at Auction Mart if possible.
  9. I would like to know too as it is just round the corner from my house, literally a 5 minute walk.
  10. Great pics. I keep thinking of taking a camera out with me but i have a hrad enough job just shooting the birds never mind taking pics too!
  11. I am no expert but I would say that your pup is already getting enough exercise. Most work on the 5 minutes x age in months for an exercise guide , so a 3 month pup would need 15 minutes twice a day. Mental exercise is just as good if not better for tiring them out. I am in exactly the same position with my 11 week old Vizsla.
  12. Just looking for a bit of advice regarding raw / barf diets. I am picking up my pup on Sunday and wish to feed him on a raw diet. He is on a mixture of pro plan and raw chacken at the moment and I plan to change him onto a full raw / barf diet over a 3 to 4 week period. None of my other friends / family who own pet or working dogs feed raw and many are against it and think i am odd for even thinking about it. I know I will have to worm more regularly but will feeding raw affect the way in which he will handle shot game when he is older? wouldnt want him to think that a bird dropping from t
  13. I have got to question where you get you percentages from? Wont the genes be split 50/50 between both parents? All your other points make good sense though.
  14. Read this book a few months ago and I really enjoyed it. I got the local library to order it in at a massive cost of 30p or was it 50p, either way it's a cheap way of reading a good book.
  15. I will be interested to find out how you get on as I am picking up my Vizsla pup in 6 weeks time. All the stuff that I have read says don't chase after the dog as it will soon learn that it can run faster than you! I agree that you should take the dog back to the exact spot where is dissobayed your command and there is the problem. How do you get the dog back to the spot quickly without chasing after it when it could be up to 50m away???
  16. Fingers crossed that common sense will be applied here and that the ban will be over turned.
  17. I am looking to get an air rifle to do a bit of rabbit shooting and general pest controll for when I am am not using the shotgun. I have a max budget of £400, so am looking at a second hand gun. My preferance would be a multi shot pre chaged .22 with scope and silencer if possible, what would you advise me to spend my cash on?
  18. Depends on what you class as economic. I am in the process of building a 7' x 6' x 13' kennel and run and by the time I have paid for the materials for the base, timber, plywood, insulation, roof felt and galvanised mesh etc I will be close on £700. OK I could have done it cheaper but this will be very well built and will last a long time. I looked at all the kennels at the CLA last weekend and although they look very nice they are not as well built and are expensive for what they are.
