  2. when I had bundles of sticks hanging in the ferret shed , after 1 - 1.1/2 years I found any privet sticks cracked so would think a gally peg would be the same . only way is to try it but cut it longer than required then if it does crack/split at the ends you can cut it out
  3. I only do a few sticks every now and then these days but some years ago I could make a few bob selling em,not show stuff but fairly good .... as I collected them I would hang them up in the ferret shed , i`d start with a hanging old broom handle for the centre and keep tying sticks to it as I got them, after ten or so I`d hang another bundle . most were cut winter but if I saw one in the summer that was right I`d have it cos come winter somebody else would of had it or it`d grown to thick . some sticks I`d dig around the root if it was bolting nice n straight out the ground so as to get a nic

  9. hey up Mustard ,,,we used to get a lot of rabbits that came off sheep fields and quite a few rabbits had clear fluid sacs with white specks inside . we dropped some off at the vets who told us they were tape worm eggs as Stubby has quoted , the vet kept some sacs to show the students and he mentioned the rabbits were quite ok to eat just discard any fluid sacs but don`t let the dogs pick any up . the sacs could be found almost anywhere on the skinned carcass but mostly around the muscle area`s even just under the skin , so don`t be put put off from eating them ,rabbits that is . hope this is o
  10. years gone a slice would be cut from the centre of a giant puffball and hung on a nail with a small weight hanging from the bottom to help give it a bit more length ,when fully dried out it was hung and used as a strop to help keep your cut throat razor sharp ...... cut a full slice out of your puffer and quarter it then dip the wedge shape quarters in thin batter made with lager beer, quite nice.......had field blewies at easter one year whilst picking a few saint george`s for the stew pot , i kept a few blewits meself and took the rest to a veg shop who bought stuff off me but someone beat m
  11. bedside rug........10 skins . five each side all pointing in neck to neck / tails all sticking outwards . square necks and bellys up with a stanley knife {cut from skin side} . stitch neck to neck and white belly to next belly . before stitching glueing down onto close woven sacking or carpet underlay backing, push tubed legs inside out and snip off leaving enough skin to cover hole and stitch down or slit leg holes and stitch or just leave them floating about on top .. all depending on how much skin is trimmed off to start with . have fun....Ray .
  12. a bit late in replying to your question but for me I give them a quick scrub with household scrubbing brush as you would with crabs if the`ve come out of muddy areas ..... boil larger ones for 5 - 6 mins with one or two table spoon of salt added to the boiling water { same as shrimps/prawns/crabs if eaten straight from shell they taste a little bland if not boiled in salted water }......shell the tail after cracking the centre shell plate{like breaking its back} and twist the tail fins and pull , sometimes the black vein comes out with the twisted fins and sometimes not ,if not cut down centre
  13. hello mike-bee , my fav is rabbit and mushroom pie and what we do is joint the rabbit and wash...drop joints into pan of boiling water which will send meat white...cut out and discard the bitter bile sac on the liver which will be found in a fold and drop liver in pan as well as the kidneys...if a few veg is required in the pie to bulk it out a bit then get them ready while the rabbit cooks...scoop off any scum that collects on the top of water and discard...pierce rabbit to see if cooked {no blood oozing out } if done take out of pan to cool a little and add any veg etc to water...remove meat
