I doubt you'll be able to keep him under control where there is hooves about... If the dog uses it's nose to full effect and has been able to get close then it will always choose that over what ever you can offer it (in my limited experience). Don't take him for walks in the woods, or where ever you know you will come across that particular quarry or keep him on the lead. Other than that reside yourself to the fact that you may loose him for a while and plan your time accordingly
.... I have dogs that will hunt on and on if given the chance so I have to keep on top of them or not let them go... Luckily when we are out ferreting they are generally focussed on the whats going on below ground... The only lurchers that I have seen not hunt on and on are more heavily sighthound saturated, they tend to be the ones that come back quicker, but I'm sure its all in how you start them off and if you have spent time in the woods early on and the dog has found the thunder of hooves to be pretty exciting then that is one can of worms you won't be getting the lid back on!!!

Clearly dreaming again!!!
My ferreting at the weekend consisted of a couple of 6-7 foot digs no bolts and no rabbits! F@cking awesome!!! Hope you're well...

I had the pup out for a bit of one to one time on some permission just getting her used to being in the woods and bit of shooting with my air rifle. We went through a ditch and made a little noise going through with the pup about 6 yards in front of me and as I was climbing out of the ditch and standing up a old dog fox came stalking up the path towards the pup, eyes fixed and didn't take a blind bit of notice of me until I shouted at the bugger, I dare say it would of had a good go at the pup if not have taken her, she'd of been about 4 months old at the time.

Fantastic! That looks like a lot of fun... How tall is your dog?

Cracking write up Kev, I enjoyed that and some great captures by sailor boy too Don't doubt you had some craic, looks a good un.
Dan that dog of yours is looking nice fair play, anything like it's sire and you'll have a good un there.
LOL@socks.
Cheers bud, she's a year old now and doing well. I was well happy with her on the day, apart from being balled up in the longnet!
All the pups are doing well, had some pictures sent through recently and will put a post up...

To be fair Dan your dog never strayed to far away, it's probably because it was tide up like a kipper in the long netMy ears are still ringing with the sounds of "Reggie" being bellowed through the valley!!!! It's nice that he felt comfortable enough around me to claim me as his own!!! Dirty little piss bag!!! The good thing about having him around is that he brings Sean along to take the photo's which is a major plus! That and Reggie is never really very close to what is going on with the ferrets anyway!
The farmer was well happy having the extra hand from him rounding the sheep up and so was me and Kev as it provided the source of entertainment for quite some time!!!! It was great to actually get you guys out on a bit of my permission for once instead of going to yours all the time, I'm glad it went well or more liked relieved it went well, roll on some windy nights and a few more ferreting trips in between
Really enjoyed it Dan, cheers mate...
Get this trip out of the way and we'll sort a few decent days and nights out..
F@ck!!!! Poor little sod... I forgot that! I had a proper panic on for a minute!!
