  3. before guns etc deerhounds were used for coursing by scottish lairds and near aviemore there still guys who catch them with big deerhoundy types ,ive yet to see a pure deerhound that i wanted to own , but saw plenty crossed alas most have been over the pond , thye were and are capalbe of pulling things up to white tail deer singly . the dogs ive saw in this country apart from crosses were not capable of catching the cold most deerhounds that ive saw localy were show dogs , localy there been 12 falllow let go by one of the big stalking syndacites so it maybe intresting in afew years as they roa
  4. been out trapping in new mexico silver fox red fox and bobcat , leg traps etc not a bad way to make an earner , there atrapping station in new mexico the furriers come round once a fortnight , last fall john had 103 silver foxes 5 bobcats in a eight week period not bad going ,met some goodguys out there met aguy who trapped alaska for year plus one the iditariod husky race etc he used the dogs for his trap line all the best
  5. best single handed dog was deerhound cross and most of your american staghound are deerhoundyand thye can killlarge quarry, the only dogs ive saw to ,be in the same clas were alitter of first cross saluk crosses which my close freind bred all the males were 27 to 29 two were very strong and would pull most things one got put down because of it , they lifted roe up on the run and were real killers the only saluk crosses i know that killed strong toothed qaurry , we bred them for roe ,but he done quite well with coursing hares with one of them they were strong one made eighty pounds plus , i ha

  8. for me killing al those big beasties sounds good localy we have only roe, in pre ban day ive always believed when out at night kill quickly, empty out the engine carry to the nearest roadside etc you can catch a few a night i if needed , all youse guys must be goliaths carrying red fallow bucks etc , i find a good buck roe heavy enough ,nothing wrong with the humble coney had many agood night and day ferreting etc localy htere more deer hares than rabbits now you need to travel for good rabbit land now ,im happy localy if i catch half a dozen 15 years ago you would do that easy all the best

  10. saw a three qaurter greyhound one qaurter deerhound pull roe for fun ,but lacked the turning abilityof a smaler dog he came in at 29 inches a nice big dog alll the same ,he was bred by andy baron his downfall was turning and the guy who had him never ran him to his potentiol a sfor lettting dogs or dogs killing them like a bullet thye must be half crocodile my idea for me dog pulls qaurry and you try and get there quick as and do the nessasary and on to the next one etc

  14. ive used several mateirals over the years for makeing drift nets for fish, rabbit nets, fox nets ,spun nylon or staple net nylon i use , i use a metal pin on one end of the net and awooden or plastic peg on the other end al thwe best on your net makeing

  18. bo hossian i had a big dog sid he took fallow sika roe etc sigle handed when it was legal and was clever with it ,up and down the gears, he looke like a strong coursing hound but stonger and alot more wind roughly 27 and 65 pound a very good fox dog, a good night time dog, if you get the edrd there a picture of him in it away back in 2002 ,
  19. maybe not running them for thirty years but two decades of running them with all sorts myself for money sport and the table, walked up, driving stubbles ,the best dogs ive saw and had for roe ,have been saluki crosses of the tor of dartmoor line and a few colli crosses ive had my self no arse biters , ive gave good hare dogs away, at one time cause they were arse enders no good thye could kill a fox for fun, rabbits, but when they started chomping adios , i try not to run my dogs with stange dogs as bad habits can be had , the best roe dogs ive had were 60 to 70 pound in weight for open land
  20. the two dogs i saw out of the douglas strain were both rough like a thick broken coated beardie but were more lightly built , i saw one catch fox roe and rabbit etc a nice dog , aguy from valley feild in scotland had it 9 or 10 years ago the other one was maybe 15 years ago ,looked like a small deerhound cross it was racy with a good deep chest never saw any more since then ,the puppy peddlars took over from these good ole strains

  22. haveing caught loads of both over the last few decades for wages and fun the best on roe is 5 in one night with a s with a collie threeqaurter cross and a genuine half son of tor of dartmooor very good dogs , the same bitch the collie cross to knock rabbits for fun caught twenty plus a night ,i would say a good yearling or second year buck knowing were hees going takes a bit of catching ,localy ive ran roe that no what adog is theyrun with theri heads down they run. hitting the wood with out checking their stride and if the dog aint quick enough their in the wood and away ,ive hunted fir wo
