  3. Hello folks,

Wanted to share my son’s recent dive into clay shooting. He decided he wanted his own hardware and picked up a Bakial 27E for £80. I wasn't to sure on his choice for a first-timer with it being double trigger, however his first idea was a SXS.

We both when over to The Spitfire Shhot (Stockbridge). And what do you know? Within 10 minutes, he’s nailing shots. Singles, pairs, teal, driven pheasant, bolting rabbit, crossing pigeon, dropping duck he was loving it. Seems like he’s got a knack for it, a real natural talent.

Gotta admit, I’m pretty chuffed. He’s taken to it like a fish to water. The way he’s handling the shotgun, you’d think he’s been doing this for ages. It’s not just about the hits, though; it’s about the discipline and focus it takes to get it right.

If any of you seasoned shooters have some pointers for a rookie like my son, feel free to share your wisdom.

Here’s to more clay-crushing sessions ahead for the young gun!

    Best regards,

    Karl.

  4. Hello forum members,

Allow me to introduce myself - I’m Karl. While I’m not new to this forum, I am new to the Salisbury, Wiltshire area. Recently, I’ve acquired both a shotgun and firearms certificate.

My interests lean towards vermin control as it is what I have been doing with either ferret or air rifle, however I am eager to learn more about pigeon shooting, and stalking. However, I’m genuinely open to any hunting opportunities.

as mentioned I’m keen to learn and eager to connect with experienced individuals who might be interested in guiding and assisting me on my journey. Looking forward to meeting with fellow enthusiasts for some insightful experiences.

    Thanks in advance

    Karl.

  6. Hi,

It been a long time... I am now back from South East Asia (2.5 Years). When I left I gave all 4 of my good working ferrets to "greenman". I am now looking for someone to return me the favour, I am looking for 2 Hobs, thats it, colour is not important, I would just like them it be from a good working background.

I am willing to travel but not a crazy distance, I'm in the Salisbury area. I have plenty of permission and nets all i need now is the ferts.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. I have 4 ferrets that I am looking to re-home, as my work is taking me to Brunei and i cant take them with me.

They are a mixture of ages and are all proven workers from good working stock. I have handled them properly everyday and so have my kids so they are very friendly and have never bitten.
Like i have said they don't bite so would be good for anyone who is new to ferreting or looking to take young children. I have worked them religiously every season with my young children and they have loved every minute of it.

    They are all males

  8. As my new long nets arrived on Saturday I had decided to go out on Sunday regardless of the weather with the kids and 2 of my hobs. So Sunday morning when I woke up and looked out of the window and saw frost on the ground I knew it would be a good day to test out my new nets.

So we packed up my car (Mk1 Golf not the ideal car for ferreting) and a spot of lunch and off we went. We arrive to my permission and got to the first warren under a large tree, set up the nets around it and sent the ferrets to work. After a short while a few bunnys we're jumping but not bolting into the nets as I couldn't get in to set purse nets I picked up the ferrets and nets and went to the next warren.

After a little time here we had a few in the purse nets but still none had hit my long nets. By this time it was a round lunch time and the rain had started falling. So I quickly set up a shelter to get us out of the rain to have lunch.

As the rain pored we happily sat in the dry eating our lunch, drinking hot chocolate and coffee. We waited for the rain to die off and we set off again. With me setting the long nets and the kids sorting out the bagging we had it nailed. And it wasn't long be for the rabbits were hitting the net. As this is the first time I've used a long net I could not believe how quick and easy it was to use. We had no rabbits bouncing off, everyone got court in the net, however there is always one or two that get away and that day was no exception. Overall we had a great day and the kids loved it, even with the rain, and my daughter said that the next time we go we should take amber and ruby (the dogs) for the few that get away, and I think she's right.

  9. Is hunting morally acceptable? Well acres of habitat are protected by hunting-generated funds, lots of game species have experienced population increases due to modern game management, the economy is stimulated by hunting-generated revenues, also hunters, more than most citizens, care deeply about ecosystem.

Outsiders to hunting are primarily concerned about the pain and suffering and loss of life inflicted on hunted animals and about the motives and attitudes of those who hunt. They are offended by references to game animals as "resources." They are angered by the sterile language, and by implication, the emotionally sterile attitudes of those who speak of "culling," "controlling," and "managing" animals.

Anti-hunters insist that non-trivial reasons be given for intentional human-inflicted injuries or deaths, or that these injuries and deaths be stopped.

This is, in my view, a very reasonable request.

To be ethical, we must do two things: We must act ethically, and we must think ethically. What's needed for truly moral hunting to flourish is not just a change of appearance or vocabulary but a change of mindset, a deepening of values hunting for purpose not for mindless sport.

  10. So got a new permission, drove there this morning with the kids which was the first time I had been there and the first time I had taken the kids ferreting my son Jaden aged 6 and daughter Lexi aged 4.

Had a quick look around and soon could see the place was over run with rabbits.

Found a warren in a tree line. Nets down and the ferret at about 1200 and within 10 mins 2 rabbits out. Stopped for a bit of lunch and then up came the nests had another look around and found more places. However kids where cold so went home for a hot chocolate.

But they enjoyed it so much they want to go again tomorrow. But I think I will make sure they wrap up warm and make a day of it.

    Here are a few pics.

  11. Hi,

I'm really looking to get a small hob for ferreting. The only thing is I am finding it hard to find any in my area I am willing to travel but not to far. I live in emsworth in Hampshire but I am willing to travel up to 20 maybe 30 miles. I am looking to spend no more than £10 each. I am out of the country for work till the 24th of may but after this would be a good time for me to collect. So if anyone can help that would be great.

    Thanks

    Karl.

  12. hi i have just got back into the sport and have got myself a 14 week old jill about a month ago for £10 which i thought was a little steap but it was the cheapest i could find in my area (Emsworth, Hants)i am now looking for a ferret with experience in working to show her thw ropes at the end on the season and so i can work it at the start. i have found one in my area 2 years old and been working for just over a year however the onwer would like £25 for him (Albino)or an offer. is he pushing his luck for £25 if so what would be a good offer.

    THANKS KARL
