Cheers lads, just trying to find out what different types are now been used.
Anyone ever heard of the scaffy type bars with a spring mechanism and blade on one end?
theres bound to be a few who have a fair idea of the things i am on about.
Are you sure you dont mean a bar with a section of leaf spring welded on to the business end

i have a dog that was a very slow starter. he was nearly 30 months until the penny dropped. the only reason i kept him on was because he was showing a few small signs that he had more to offer. if anyone else would have had him, he wouldn't be here today. thankfully he did come good and at the age of 10 is the best worker i've ever owned...
if given enough chances and you're not making any headway your just wasting your time, other 'terryorrs' just go themselves and don't need schooled, though entering too young could end up backfiring.........good post terryorr..........
Best dog i ever see or by the lads that i have known all my life was around the same age as yours ,he certainly made up for the late start and was a pleasure to own.

There's alot of good comments on this thread and there's alot of BULLSHIT comments, I guess we'll never really know the answers to all the questions asked which relate to Brain Nuttall and his strain of terriers. However I have a kennel full of only Nuttall terriers, and have known Brian for some 15 years BUT more importantly for the past 5 seasons Brian has joined me as hunt terrierman. He still helps on the shovel, he may not be the fastest but what do you want at 78yrs of age, but he has a wealth of knowledge. I have my own personal views on Brain's breading and the so called new strain, but as I said their my views and not for public viewing.
The worst thing about this site is people hide behind user names and slate everyone they can, my view is if my terriers do what I require then I'm happy regardless what others think BUT if they don't work to my required standard then they go.....
Happy Hunting to all, and looking forward to a new season.

Heres a few that happened to me a long time ago , after been out hunting one winters day we decided to stop at the local pub on the way home . As we were only having a pint i left the dog in the boot of the car ,as we returned after half an hour i was surprised to see the windows of the car all fogged up .On opening the door i soon realised what had happened ,the dirty b*****d had eaten through the parcel shelf ,eaten the gear nob ,steering wheel and ripped all the seats ,at least he didnt crap on my seat lol, Same dog out in the garden for ten minutes while i cleaned his kennel ,eat the seat of the motorbike chews the brake pipes ,chewed the water waste pipe from the house fxckin nutcase .That dog cost me thousands some things i couldnt put on here ,But despite that i have no regrets and i wish he was here now .

So what lines are respected the most these days then?
the man i got my patterdale from, many others who know him and hunt with him share the same respect for him and his bloodline as i do.
As it should be

They can go in any other terrier classes ,dogs and bitches .
I might drive down ,is it far from Haverhill ?
-
Is there any Wheaten terrier class.

don't think its a secret. he will tell u if you ask him. wasn't rocky a quarter border?
No its not a secret ,yes

was told by brian himself he used l.oakes borders on his bitches. he still gets rough haired dogs in litters and said he just puts a smooth dog back over em. my first dog off him when I was 15 out of mickey. 25 year ago and had stuff out of miner. no different in working style just smaller. last one I had out of miner x bramble he gave him me when he was 14 month old cos he was too big at 13".
Mickey ,im sure a well known man whos strain is allways spoken of in high regard had plenty of Mickey blood in them ,same fella went to the same Chocolate Nuttall dog four times for a mating.I guess he wouldnt admit that though .

Thanks for all the help people. The dole would sort the sia, or any other courses really, if there was a secured job certain at the end of it, as in get the job lined and we'll pay then. which isn't a great help. MY lack of driving is shafting me at every turn, had a place all lined in a local pest control company, to be trained etc, but no car no job. same with doing any pest control for farmers, plus my russell, gashed herself yesterday so she's off now for a few weeks. i need to be driving to get better work, need the work to get driving. Have an interview on tues at an engineering company, 2nd round, so hopefully that'll go well, good money in a secure job. Things will turn around eventually, just prefer sooner not later.
Thanks to all the people who put ideas forward to me, and those who wished me luck, good to know that there is decent folk left about the place
Never ever give up ,thinks will work out for you ,ATB.

If I was looking for good blood/lines I wouldn't be interested in BN's. There's plenty of lads got tried & tested stuff so why chance it? I take it the people you are on about are more interested in the money than working ability?
Funny enough there not,so they must keep pure shit
-
Nobody wants to see BN in ill health but that has got nothing to do with the points made in this thread. He was breeding for the overseas market many, many years ago. Who's trying to get pups out of his stock?
I thought this thread was about the dividing line ,you would be surprised who is after his blood .
-
Im sure this thread started of as THE DIVIDING LINE ?lets get back on track and all the experts can enlighten us .

brians dogs were too game and too small even in the early 90s, show dogs they wern't thank god but definatley started to look very bully, a fact not helped by the fact that his son kept apbt's i saw a lovely small pure apbt at his place in about 94 and asked him was he using it in his breeding program which he denied .
A good mate of mine bought a nice bitch pup a few years ago and asked for the breeding lines it was all written down on a sheet of paper , he misplaced that and on a visit a couple of months later asked for a replacement , guess what the 1st pedigree turned up after a year or so and the two were completely different go figure
he's a nice bloke but i think the dosh got the better of him over time
How about hes an old bloke that has had ill health in recent years just maybe that had something to do with it ,i wish and hope i can get out and about like him when im his age . I dont agree with all the pup selling but with all this talk of his dogs now being shit ,it sounds strange to me that men who are supposed to have better lines of dogs are still trying to get pups out of some of his stock ,doesnt say much for theirs .
err did i say his dogs were shit no i didn't i said they were to game 'its not the size of the dog in the fight it's the size of the fight in the dog ' was what he used to chuckle at us
he's knocking on now allright but this was all 15 years ago not yesterday
Was talking in general ,that bull in his yard in 94 was it his ?

.Would you think the working wheaten of today is a shadow of what it was? (not a loaded question) .Its going back to when i was a child the last time i saw a proper wheaten(i.e not a small old english sheepdog type show dog).
I believe from the right yard the wheaten of today is as good as and in some case better than yesteryear ,Thats my honest opinion ,no doubt the experts will know different .
