  1. Hi lads , I wanted to check out a spot of rough moorland I've not been to in a while , so contacted old pritch to see if was up a run out . Even tho a full moon , conditions were good , plenty cloud cover , and pretty blustery . I was running a whippet and pritch his collie greyhound , Riley . It's one of them areas of just got to go for it , run after run in a short space of time . After a couple of misses , they started connecting , Riley taking 6 , my whippet taking 4 in about 20 minutes ,but also missing a fair few that shud of been in the bag , only second night out tho , so pleased with
  2. Thanks Sirius an stealthy , it sure is one of my favourite things todo , great for spotting wildlife aswell .
  3. Thanks for comments lads , westy it's just a 8x8 inch ply box with a door on the front ,in the bottom of an old rucksack , just big enough for a Jill , easy to knock together . Cheers
  4. a few more we ended up with 5 , with the last 2 taken on the run , so pleased so far . we bolted a stoat from 1 set . thanks for looking .
  5. hi lads, i went on my first ferreting session of the season today . i decided walk and travel light , with just a few nets ,1 ferret , and my youngest whippet dog . This will be his first proper season ferreting , as he had a bad injury last summer , so was given light work .
  6. I would carry on with the barf personally , it looks a great diet you are feeding . I wouldn't sacrifice her condition , just keep add or take accordingly . I believe a dog thrives when it looks forward to its food , she'll be we'll pissed of with you , if you change her back onto complete after that tasty stuff, lol .
  7. There's plenty of lads round our way in lancs , who go to spots in the dales when starting young dogs on the lamp to build their confidence ,as the terrain IN CERTAIN SPOTS favours the dog , and the rabbits Seem less on the ball and less agile . It's not just the dales tho , it's any upland rough pasture were the rabbits don't get hassled as much their bound to be slightly easier IMO .
  8. from what i have seen , mikes stuff is a little more robust than alot of other whippets . But trigger i would not rush into going straight to mike , do your research , talk to the men who have been into whippets a long time , and try and get some unbiased views , then you can make a more educated decision of what might suit you .
  9. Interesting stuff , thanks for putting that up sandy . And thanks for replies lads . I think as long as your maintaining the condition of the dog for the job in hand then it's all good . It's interesting that lurcher work is leaning more towards a endurance athlete than a sprint athlete , and requires a lot more energy from fats , and most people use a greyhound complete food . It's also interesting about electrolytes that dogs don't lose them , and therefore replacement is not needed .
  10. Ok lads , I feed twice a day , complete kibble in the mornings and raw for their main meal in the evening . Now you hear all different views on the amount of protein that people feed , some say don't feed raw and complete , some use a low protein kibble combination , some a high . Now I know it depends on the dogs workload how much protein they need for recovery , but is it damaging to feed to much protein , is there any health or performance differences when a dog is getting to much ? If the dog is looking slightly under , do you increase the protein content or just the bulk ? . I think if t
  11. Take a look at the norrona recon pro jacket , expensive but top quality . I've got the older version , it's by far the best jacket I've ever had .
  12. Cheers lads , think I'm going to go with a couple of light Sussex , 2 black rocks and , and burford browns if poss .
  13. thanks for replies lads ,another question , does what you feed them have an affect on the quality of egg they produce , and what sort of feed is the best .Also, i know it might sound dumb ,but do all breeds get on together .cheers lads.
  14. Hi folks , I've just got an allotment and hope to get some chickens to supply us with eggs . Now I know nothing about chickens , so what would be the best breed to get for laying ,and taste wise Cheers , robo.
  15. I run with mine , they can keep in a fast trot at approx 8mph ,before they have to break into a canter. So I like to keep them in that hardworking trot from a few miles upto about 10miles , depending at what fitness their at .
  16. Just b careful daz , as a lot of the general lightweight gtx walking jackets can rip very easily .
  17. Vetuk does 24 drontal for £42 . , 1 x tablet per 10kg
  18. I used them for the 1st time this month . The heart/beef mince mix the dogs refused to eat raw , even cooked they just picked at it . And the tripe they weren't to keen on either , and they usually wolf tripe down . I don't know if its the freshness of it or what but I don't think I'll order again . Maybe I just got a bad batch .
  19. Adam if you get your recall and retreive in the day spot on first it shouldn't be a problem . The first few outings on the lamp you can call the recall as you would in the day , and don't worry about being noisy , just as long as you get the dog back to you when either catches or misses . Once it gets in the routine of coming back and learns what is required you won't have to recall .
